He could try hitting the global market, make an instagram account, ask friends of his to share his business information with others. People are fascinated with pottery at the moment, so he should try to take advantage of that. Keep on holding classes for children, since that seems to be the safest way. Keep on reaching out to acquaintances asking if they need something and give them a discount or something. Chasing your dream is good, but he should try to have it more planned out.

I do understand that most artists dont do it because of the money but because of the passion. But he also has to realise that he has 2 kids and a wife to support. Money is not everything but you still need them to live.

I don't understand all the hate on comments ! I personally feel that he cried because of his situation (sad because they are no customers, his family doesn't understand him) but also because of some aspects living in Korea : I mean the fact that money, appearance are important there. The truth, I think , is that sometimes this culture gap makes him sad. He takes a good care of his children and loves his family (from what I've seen). He worked a lot before when he was a teacher in order to have good living condition (look at their house !). He opened his shop just two years ago, let him more time ! I cannot imagine a world where everyone gave up their dream after 2 years ! [just my opinion]

There are other couples on this show that have shown us pure determination and grit, and I respect them so much for not giving up yet at the same time working so hard to make ends meet. For example, episode 62 with the young couple, the wife from Russia and the husband is Korean. The wife wants to be a model and the husband wants to be an actor. The husband cooks for the wife, jogs with his wife, he knows how to apologise when he realises he pushed her too far, he goes around personally dropping off portfolios of the both of them to agencies, he works construction, doing backbreaking work just to make ends meet. The wife models when she gets a job, she walks around in sky-high heels on weekends in a mall to give out flyers (she herself said it is so difficult, not only physically but mentally, when she's not feeling happy she still has to smile, when she has a headache she can't show it on her face), after that she goes to an eatery dominated by old aunties and uncle (yknow how impatient ahjummas are) and she washes dishes, serves food, cleans up after people. When the husband sells his wares on the street in the cold, she comes over with a smile and a hot cup of coffee for him. She stands with him in the cold and tries to help him sell. Both of them are trying to meet in the middle. And that pure love and support they have. The wife in this show has become so exhausted, mentally and physically. Maybe once upon a time she was supportive. She saw talent. But in a competitive AND judgemental place like Korea (as is in most Asian countries), how can she not be disappointed? They have 2 young kids that depend on them, but in her eyes, her husband is doing nothing. He does not go through their children's homework, he doesn't make breakfast for them, he doesn't even bring in the dough. She is the one waking up early in the morning to make breakfast, since she probably works late to compensate for her husband's lack of funds, she has no time to ensure the children are doing ok in school, so she has to do it in the morning. Not only is her husband lazing in bed to avoid her, he complains that she is annoying the children by asking them to revise in the morning. He needs a reality check. And she needs a vacation.

Following your dreams is very important and beautiful but you need to support yourself and the people you love until the time your dream can support you, and also you need money to make your dream work, so maybe having an extra job on the side wouldn't be a bad idea until he's able to sell his pottery and attract more customers, and he can refine his techniques in the meantime.. It's wonderful that he wants to show his kids that they can achieve what they want, but he seems to be waiting for things to happen rather than actually make things work

You can tell this man is really making an efrort to learn Korean because he's put in as much Korean as he knows into English sentences 😂 Like I understand that not everything is about money but when you have a family sometimes you gotta give up your pride to provide for them.

He was making 7k to 8k month teaching 15 years ago. He probably opened up the studio because his salary got smaller and smaller. Look how many foreigners (even just on KZfaq alone) are goin to Korea to teach English. There's no way all of them are making 7k a month. I don't think you guys should be so hard on him. He should probably close the shop during the week and find another job to help his wife out. And he should DEFINITELY help more around the house.

Yes he seems quite lazy, but I highly doubt he didn't work hard in the last 12 years making 7k-8k a month. Cause their house is the best house I've seen in this show. Money is definitely important too. He should think of more ways to promote his pottery cause it's beautiful. I'm sure their relationship will get better when he succeeds in his dream too. Sorry, I don't wanna be judgmental but I don't understand him. I know that his dream is pottery but you have no customers and you can't even pay your bills. You have two children and you should support them financially, I think that the in-laws are right and I don't understand when he says that he is not closing the studio for his family... like why? Also it's not fair that the wife is struggling because he wants to follow his dreams. What about her dreams, then? Secondly, 15 years in the country and still speaks really basic Korean? Another foreigner that disappoints me. If you know that you are going to spend your life in a country for more than a couple of years, at least learn its language, Jesus. It's not like you are busy in the studio, you can at least study the language or take care of your children.

This man worked so hard to buy his family that beautiful house and a car. I think its right for him to be doing what hes passionate about, I mean yeah, he may not earn alot but its been inly 2 years since his business has started. Businesses dont bloom that quick. It really takes time and patience so they should really just trust him. After this Im pretty sure he'll realize how much more he needs to help his wife make money. He'll earn money in a way where hes happy with what hes doing, not unhappy with what hes doing. He's honestly right about teaching his boys to follow their dreams. If they grow up seeing their dad unhappy and earning money, its likely that their mindsets are gonna be set to think that life is just about earning money to pay bills instead of happiness.

I feel bad for David but somehow , i feel more bad to his wife whose support almost everything to their family. Since his pottery business is not doing so good he needs to find a 2nd job to help bring in some money. Honestly, his Korean isn't as bad as others I've seen on the show. You can tell he understands a lot of it. He worked as an English teacher for over 10 years and English is also spoken at home so it's really not surprising his Korean isn't fluent.

Does he have a website/facebook? International customers would be very interested in his work.

I understand that David wants to follow his dreams and keep making pottery, but he must have in mind that he has to provide for his family; he's got 2 sons and a wife and all the responsability can't be taken by his wife. It would be great for the whole family, if he got a part-time job as a teacher and worked in his studio in the afternoon. On the other hand, I think he's right when he said that children shouldn't start doing homework so early in the morning like his wife wanted them to do, but it doesn't mean that they slack off and neglect their duties. Children are children and they should be free and feel relaxed, but I guess his wife's concerns about her children's studies is due to the competitive thought that exists in Korea. David seems to be such a nice man and he loves his family, I'm sure that he'll get ahead having his family's support in between !

David should spend more time to learn from his Korean pottery master and master his technique and style. Authentic Korean pottery will help him get customers who would be willing to pay a lot of money for his work. I do understand he wants to achieve his dreams. I was in the same boat. Now I work part time while studying and I have to also provide for my family as a Korean immigrant in North America. It's not easy to have it all as an immigrant. I wish him the best

As someone who is trying to a be novelist and inspired by artists in general I see where David is coming from, it's the conflict of doing what is right(providing for his family) and pursuing his ambition. I'd suggest he definitely get a job to lift the burden off his wife , he mentioned his appearance being an obstacle in going back to work, I don't under that but he didn't elaborate so I won't condemn on that. Also he should clean up after himself and the kids, it takes probably less than half an hour to wash dishes and wipe off the table. Good luck to both of them, hope David meets both his wife's and his own expectations, go for it.

Having a dream and following it is great, and it's good that he wants to teach his kids that what's on the inside matters and that they can follow their dreams, but if you can't pay the bills, especially if you have a family you need to support, finding a solution is the better choice, even if it means putting off your dream for later. I can understand that everyone wants to pursue a career he loves, not just holding a job. Teaching English is a job to David. Sometimes we have to temporarily hold off our passions and dream in order to feed family. why cant he teach English part time while building his pottery business to be successful? on the other hand, his wife nagging and putting him down arent helpful. the sharp criticism is damaging over time and sadly their kids are learning negative lessons. we want to teach our kids that you can do everything that you set mind to. Put a crown a few inches above his head and watch him grow into it. There is an amazing power when somebody believes in you. money is not everything but when you struggle to live, money is important. Compromise and encourage one another is the solution.

He is kind of arrogant. I haven't watch the whole video yet but it somehow made me mad when he imitated his wife... I think, he should pursue his dream as a potter, after all this is what he studied, came for in Korea, his wife knew about his passion when they met, he already sacrificed 10yrs to teach english in order to provide for his wife and children, I will agree with the potter teacher, he needs to be able to make some pottery that attract people in order to pay his bills and pursue his style, and who knows some customers may come to buy what sells but it is also a good advertising to show his own design pottery

This episode was a mix of MNC, The Return of the Supermen (his kids are great) and a whole bunch of "Hello Counselor" feeling. I almost felt nosey while watching him and his wife bickering and his father-in-law being a bully.

He could be a voice actor, his voice is very characteristic.

The father is having a midlife crisis after working for so long in a job he doesn't want (he did originally came to Korea for the pottery) and the wife is getting the brunt of it. If he wants to sell Korean pottery, he should try to sell outside Korea. In a home country, there is bound to be a surplus of those things and there are bound to be masters of it that have vast networks he could not comprehend. He knows his stuff, he should just go out there and reach out or get someone to manage his advertising. (and please not be lazy, I feel sorry for the wife)

i support him he's very good person .. in Korea its regular to see this pottery design, but if he try in different country I think it will attract more attention. In Australia for example, will be good.

maybe instead of making basic pottery, try something different and artistic, promote it on social media, etc. he could have used this program as a chance to promote this... or he can just look at the trends at the moment with pottery on something like insta, what people adore and find cool, use that shit and have different pottery for different audiences. or have a pottery cafe. i mean korea is pretty cool for stuff like this. if people find it cool, have a section on the side and sell pottery.

What an asshat. The teacher was right, his pottery was boring. He makes up all these excuses about not wanting to live a boring life and wanting to be genuine and an artist yet won't take practical advice from more experienced artists? Art isn't just about forcing the public to acknowledge "you and your art", it's a dialogue with the audience. You don't try to understand your audience (both through the language and the kind of art they appreciate) forget about making a living in that world. If he just wanted to do art to stroke his ego, he went about it in a very expensive way.

Even though the father-in-law is very blunt, he has a point. You have children now so dreams aren't really the first priority. Maybe he should try combining working as an English teacher and teaching pottery at night/week-ends instead. We had a pottery teacher at school when I was in elementary school, you know as an art teacher, maybe working as an English teacher and Art teacher would be something for him?? Since he's also into korean pottery style that be nice to teach children and preserve the culture.

This is the real life of becoming an artist, its really hard to manually to attract customers and its really sad that people look down at the beauty of art....

Ugh. I need to stop reading the comments on these videos. The absolute ignorance is appauling. You know 99% of the people commmenting haven't spent any amount of time living in Korea while working full time and sit behind their computers judging others w/o knowing the reality of anything. It's a 40 min program, you don't get the whole picture. You can tell he understands a lot more Korean than he speaks which happens a lot with people who don't get the chance to practice much. He also tried to use Korean throughout the program. It's people like the commenters that dishearten people and make them give up entirely. The reality is if you teach a foreign language in Korea, even if you're married to a Korean, it allows little time to practice (most places tell you never to utter a word of Korean at work) and Korean isn't a language you just "pick up" by listening alone ㅡ if you want to be fluent in a short amount of time you're best to be in a full time language program for at least a few years. That's 8 hours+ a day of studying for at least 2 years. Unfortunately that's not reality for most people. I'm hoping most of these commenters are teens and have yet to live life.. And don't brag about your awesome Korean skills until you're at least at the intermediate level. That's when the reality of how difficult sudying Korean really sets in. Learning 한글 is the easy part, lol.

I don't think we should judge David for being lazy or say he hasn't done much for his family. Remember this is only a glimpse into their lives of a short video put together in an entertaining way. Just by looking at the kids you can tell both parents provide a great atmosphere for the upbringing of their children. David's Korean is fine and at least he tries to put sentences/words together at every opportunity. Also you can't expect an Australian or any other foreigner to meet Korean standards of work/life balance and wisdom on money and happiness. I believe that his business will flourish and continue to run a happy family.

Also. if you blew all your money and didn't save well, then the least you can do is get a part-time job while running your studio. If he doesn’t want to teach English then all of his energy should be put into pottery. Handing out flyers once isn’t enough. He should find opportunities to teach pottery at the community center or something & expand his business. Most If not all Koreans are very tech savvy. So the fact that he has no website/Instagram/Facebook to promote is not good. At the least he should close the studio 3-4 days a week & get a part time job. He has kids to take care of & bills to pay. That free range lifestyle doesn’t work at this point in his life anymore and I can understand his wife’s frustration while understanding his. You should follow you dreams, but sometimes you have to compromise not give up, compromise.
