I'll tell you a little story,, when I was in school, I was around 10 or12 years old my best friend,, got me a beautiful gift,, it was around the festive season, Christmas, she decided to get me something very special,,have any ideas?,,,,,, Well I'll tell you it was a russian themed penquin about two inches tall with two baby penquins in side,, the very best gift I had ever got from one of my school friends,,, but alas,, I don't know what became of them,, as it was so longago, but it was really beautiful with the baby penquins inside, wish I could get a russian dolls like you have,,, but I know for a fact that the can be very expensive,, as they go through a process of carving,,, smoothing ,,painting and then varnishing,, I'm very surprised that you never got more than just 4 likes along with the the one I gave you,,, these dolls are beautiful, please let me know what you think of my story,, wish I had that penguin now!!!!,,,enjoy the rest of the holidays,,,all the best for the new year!! @@angelabarton2551 Thank you for the Likes. My collection took over 30 years but I slowed down the past 20 years to only purchase dolls that truly interest me. FYI- As of Feb. 4, 2020 I just saw a penguin nesting doll similar to what you described on eBay.

They are heavily lacquered.

This was bought over 20 years ago. I don't remember exactly if it was at a trade show, antique store or a collector's store. I'm pretty sure the stores where I used to buy from have long gone. I've seen similar sets on eBay once in awhile.

I would regularly check eBay, Mercari, Etsy, or Poshmark. You can also try look for stores that sell Russian souvenirs or some kind of specialty store. I once saw a store at a resort in Missouri that sold wood art and they had a big selection of Russian nesting dolls.
