I found the parts needed to setup my XTool D1 (and any other laser) to my shop air compressor that I use for air tools. I also made all of my machines easier to disconnect and swap out to other machines. Simply adding a piece of hose to future machines will allow them to use the air assist from each enclosure.
For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

I did this right when I got my laser. I had a one gallon senco quiet compressor sitting in shop. Took regulator off and moved up to table for control. I run right at 40 psi when cutting and between 5 and 10 when engraving unless I’m wanting a deep engrave then I increase it. I don’t use tools air assist either. I use a straight line directional from Cobey Schmidt. Coming from process automation I knew a vortex type air assist would not give directional control needed for the clean cuts. You’ll like the control of the compressor much better

Good work sir. I ran a line for mine (like 150ft hose) piggyback off the run for my plasma cutter so I could use its air drier. Still get some water in the hose before it though. Edit I wanted to add I just used aquarium tubing from the regulator to the laser with a little valve there (again cheap plastic aquarium stuff) and I believe it fits those plug in fittings as well.

So far it works well the parts I used made it easy. Still gotta tie into the shop lines.

I was running shop air on my 10 watt at just under 10 psi. I received xtools air assist pump with my 20 watt and started out with that and soon found I did not like the noise and lack of psi so went back to shop air. The 10 watt is just sitting ideal at this time. I do not have an air dryer or oiler in the shop air only a regulator. Dave

The oiler wasn’t needed but I like the rest of the setup.

Really nice setup you have. Did you try different pressures for how good it cuts? Does higher pressure help cut the laser deeper? I'm considering switching from stock air assist to compressor based to increase pressure and airflow so the cuts could be more clean and hopefully cut a bit faster or deeper. Btw I have a Creality Falcon 22W with stock air assist. Is the upgrade worth it?

Yes, I dial it in as it is cutting.

Did the black hose at 1/4" plug right into the air assist port on the side of the laser?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
Yes, I used the same diameter hose that most manufacturers use on diode air assists.

do you have a link or a picture of the part that exits the air trap and attaches to the D! air hose? seems it needs to be stepped down in size?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
Yes, the fitting is a 3/8 and goes down to the 1/4 inch line. This is what I used for the setup. amzn.to/3fkIes3

is it the 1/4 hose that xtool uses? also did you need an adapter from the small air pump from xtool to use the black hose with it?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
I used the same hose that comes with most air assist units. I bought some extra connectors and adapters to run it off shop air. The connectors are the same locking connectors that XTool uses.

Do you think you will need a air compressor dehumidifier to keep water away from the laser head?
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
Probably, I have 2 on my system. One at the compressor and another on this regulator.

This question is not of this video but I know you have the answer. In my d1 10watt, when I engrave a piece of wood and the area is dark why dose it live ridges instead of the whole area being flat and dark/black? Thanks,
@TheClackShack
@TheClackShack Жыл бұрын
Thick grain woods will burn differently along the grain. Darker lines of the grain will resist the burn while the lighter part will burn easily. This is really noticeable with pine and spruce. Good rule of thumb, the harder the wood, the less grain will effect the burn. Get into the hardwoods and stay away from character in the grain to avoid it. Personally, I just embrace it and burn on.

Absolutely love the videos! I saw another guy here on YT upgrade the air assist on his using shop air as well. I’ll drop the link to the video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7SZZdWh1tiwiI0.html. Specifically in the part between 7:30-10:00 he’s testing it between 20-40psi and seems to get pretty good results. Just thought you might be interested to see other people playing with the same ideas - gotta love a strong community! Keep up the great work and keep the content coming! Hope you’re well!
