I wanted to share Tahl's molding and casting with you! Here's what happened instead... Hopefully, the next head I prep for casting will have things go a little more smoothly.
In the meantime, tell me! What are your biggest questions about casting dolls? If I make a list now, I can be sure to cover everything all at once when it's time to cast the next head. :)

You are so sweet. It's been fun doing the casting, I hope to make a video about the process soon since that's one thing I can replicate for a video :) Just waiting for this questionable weather to pass before I get back to it!

thats why people shouldn't complain why artist bjds are expensive and thats also why buying recasts are so disrespectful

It's definitely easier to understand the pricing of small artist dolls when you see what goes into it! So far I've spent: About $40 on pigments Almost $400 for a pressure pot + accessories Over $200 on silicone About $80 on resin $15 for a box of gloves $15 for mold release $10 for clays, glues, rubber bands, PLA, etc. for building mold boxes $20 or so for measuring cups, stir sticks, pipettes, etc. including reusable ones for the resin mixing $40 on packaging/shipping materials for when it's time to ship heads people buy And I haven't spent anything to make COAs yet. So that's about $820 so far for one A-grade cast head. I can get 10-15 casts out of the mold before it deteriorates, and around 1 out of 4 turns out A-grade, so each mold will give me 3 or 4 of those I can sell. And then sales tax + self employment taxes takes around 40% of sales proceeds. So if I eventually break even, I'll be doing good!

Don't throw the mold away. You can add it to the same type of silicone as a filler so you don't have to mix more. The pink mold is the tin cure (?), so you can cut it up and add it to another tin cure silicone mold. But don't add it to the platinum cure.

Yes, I was hoping someone would mention this. You can cut it up in smaller pieces and use it as a filler to save on product.

I have done that before! However, it does make molds much more prone to forming bubbles, so it only really works as filler for very large spaces. I also hesitate to use one that has a flaw like this, since I don't know what caused it - it's possible there was some sort of contaminant that got into it that could cause problems in future molds as well.

The footage really went "Haha april fools!" And died. That's so awful. Looking forward to ordering Tahl head myself~ What are the measurements of the neck disk and the head itself?

For the block molds you can use pieces of cardboard or mdf cut to the right size and put elastics around that which helps distribute the pressure.

Also for the 326, if you have an opaque white pigment you may be able to mix that and the tan to get the color you want

@@NoadiArt I've used cardboard before, but it doesn't hold up as well in the pressure pot as something solid like acrylic sheeting or a PLA frame. The nice thing about the PLA is that it's super cheap and can be sized specifically to anything I need without a lot of fuss or cutting :) I recently purchased some opaque white pigment to do exactly that with the 326, though - just haven't had a chance to experiment with it to work out the dye ratios.

They are stunning!! It's funny but I prefer buying b and c grade doll heads. I like modding them and don't feel guilty doing it on b and c grades.

I totally get that! Although I feel better after a friend sent me photos of the inside of some Iplehouse heads where there were tiny air bubbles in tricky spots :) If even a company as pro as Iplehouse occasionally has bubbles and doesn't consider it a B-grade, then I must be doing better than I thought.
