I fell in love with Juliet Marillier not long after Daughter of the Forest was first published way back in 1999! I feel so blessed to have followed the journey of all the series written by her over the years. You MUST read the Saga of the Light Isles series, because...VIKINGS!! Similar to the rest of her books, you will find the characters and plot are so well written and you can’t help but feel invested in the detailed storyline. Juliet Marillier is a master storyteller and I’m so glad you are introducing her to a brand new (and much younger!!) audience 😊

So wonderful to see someone else fall in love with this terrific author. I did the Sevenwaters and the Bridie chronicles many many years ago and actually wrote to Juliette to thank her and so graciously replied. I donated both of these series long ago and have been yearning lately to my passion for fantasy stories. Definitely give the Bridie Chronicles a go they have that beautiful richness and depth that make her stories so gorgeous. BTW terrific work on your channel, I’m still a new arrival and have truly enjoyed it.

So glad you've discovered Juliet! She's an amazing author and Daughter of the Forest is the first book I've read by her. I love tales that take place mostly in Ireland, Scotland and Wales particularly in the medieval times with a touch of whimsy. She really has a way with words and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books soon. Speaking of her books, have you heard of Heart's Blood? I think it may be a standalone that I came across at a Library Bookshop. Looking forward to her new series next year! Thank you for the recommendations as I haven't heard of some of those books by her.

I read it and absolutely loved it, for sure it's one of my favourite books of the year so thank you so much for the recommendation.I thought I preferred faster-paced books but this one was so beautifully written, I spent the whole book mesmerised. I have read eight Juliet Marillier books. I have read the whole Sevenwaters series and loved the whole thing. It's been a good ten years since I read those, so I think I need to do a reread. Same goes with Heart's Blood. I loved that as well. I more recently read Wildwood Dancing and absolutely adored it. Gogu was just the cutest. Haven't gotten around to Cybele's Secret, yet, though I've technically started it. I love that you did this video, because I don't know many other people that love her books.

I'm obsessed with Juliet Marillier. I've also read six books by her this year. I read the first two in the Seven Waters series and loved them. Daughter of the Forrest is by far my favorite. Also Heart's Blood (best Beauty and the Beast retelling I've ever read) and all three of the Blackthorn and Grimm books. Tower of Thorns was my favorite of that series. So I think you should read that one next or Heart's Blood.

I'm so glad you've brought this author to my (our?) attention. I live in Canada and in a more 'rural' area of my province - we have 1 book by Marillier in our library system. I haven't seen her books in any bookstores either. Perhaps this is due to her being a New Zealand author or perhaps it's my geographic location; either way, I've asked my library to find me a copy of Daughter of the Forest so I can finally experience the joy you've received from this book!!!! :) Thank you!

I’m also in Canada and it seems as though the Sevenwaters Series is harder to come by (perhaps just because of the publication date). I’ve been able to find the Blackthorn and Grim Series in mass market paperback online from a Canadian source, however. Thank you so much for the recommendation. I’m halfway through Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings books and was starting to fret about what to read next... I think I might have found it!

I have loved her books since 2010 or 11 when I stumbled across Daughter of the Forest in my local library. I've lost track of how many times I've read the Sevenwaters series since. You really should read the second part of that series sooner rather than later. The 4th book, Heir to Sevenwaters, ties with the first 2 as my favorite. (Yes it,s a 3 way tie, because every time I'm reading any of those 3, it becomes my favorite.) I also greatly enjoyed The Caller series. I think you will find elements of the style that you love so much in the Sevenwaters series in the later 2 books. You also should check out her novella Twixt Firelight and Water. It's a 2 part story that fills in some gaps in the Sevenwaters story, like who Fiacha is and what happened to Padriac. It's short and definitely worth the read. I think timeline wise, it takes place between the 5th and 6th book, but it won't spoil anything if you've already read the first 3. I would recommend reading it after the 4th book though, just because of Ciaran's growth in that book. I'm actually currently rereading the Sevenwaters series all the way through because it had been a few years since I read the last book in the series and I can't remember all of it anymore which means I must read it again. Sometimes I just pick up one of the books in the series because I know the storyline so well now that I don't have to read all of them. I'm already finished with book 5, which is always excellent. One of my favorite things about her writing is that I can read her books again and again and they don't get old. They're beautifully written and the characters are so real. I never tire of her stories.

Woop woop! So excited to hear you talk in more depth out her books after loving Daughter of the Forest so much this week! I always have a love/hate relationship with series that focus on a different character in each book because I’m desperate for more of the old characters at the start but then fall in love with the new ones. And that just repeats with each book 😂 I’m going to carry on with the seven waters books for now but I’m also very excited to get to the blackthorn and grimm books. I have her short collection too so I may have to try fit that in this month. I audiobooked daughter of the forest and adored hearing it in an Irish accent - have you been audiobooking or reading?

Yes yes yes yes! Juliet Marillier is the only author from whom I have all books she wrote. The Sevenwaters series had such an impact in my late teens/young adult years. I have no idea why she is not talked about more. Her stories are absolutely magical and her strong female characters are usually very believable. And I gush over the love stories. Which is saying a lot coming from someone who does not specifically look for a lot of angsty romances in books. She even manages to do the impossible and develop non-annoying love triangles. The only book from her I did not enjoy very much was Heart´s Blood, but all the rest is LIFE!
