I had mentioned earlier this year that I had ordered a new hybrid Lexus and it's here now. In fact, I've had it for about 6 months now. In this video I talk about my Lexus ES300 hybrid ownership.
I traded in my previous Lexus LS500 for a new car, mainly to gain better efficiency, a smoother ride and powertrain, and a slightly smaller size. The ES and LS are different cars but you'd be very surprised if you drove both how similar they are.
This is my real world experience with the car after having driven it over 10,000 km or 6,000 miles over 6 months.
Specifically I talk about:
00:00 Intro and overview 2022 Lexus ES300h
00:50 Exterior and interior colour choice Moonbeam beige Palomino
01:56 Dealership order, delivery experience
03:00 Very minor seat leather imperfection at delivery
04:11 Custom ambient lights
04:31 Traded my LS500 for this ES300h hybrid
05:54 Miss massage seat from LS 500 but not powertrain lag
06:24 6 month Lexus ES ownership update
06:56 Real world MPG fuel economy ES hybrid
07:30 My top likes 2022 Lexus ES
09:09 My one dislike about the 2022 Lexus ES
09:38 My Lexus ES wish list - nice to have items

Great choice! The ES is essentially an LS, having most of its features for a fraction of the price. I love the Moonbeam Beige color on the ES, one of few cars that beige looks good on. Congratulations on your new car!

Love my 2022 ES300h UL as well. Bought Nov 15, 2021. I have had the car 1 week shy of 1 year now and its phenomenal. Having it through all 4 seasons here in Pennsylvania mileage is at 44-45mpg. Exactly as stated!! I agree with the Prime powertrain in this car. Maybe the redesign will have it. I hope the redesign doesn't take away what makes this generation of the ES so great. Truly amazing! Had a 2022 RX450h today as a loan while mine was in for the 12-month service. It wasn't bad, but used to the ES300h mileage.

Right on 👍 Yes hopefully the next ES has a Prime option and doesn’t look like the Toyota Crown 😉 - I had the LS500 and honestly Lexus ruined the LS from what it used to be. Let’s hope they learned from that mistake for the 2025 ES

Congratulations! Looking forward to following your experience with this car as I have with your others. Happy to hear the first hand experience you had comparing it to your LS, it seems like the general consensus is that Lexus has really upped the value of the ES line and it's no longer such a big gap between it and the LS. Congrats again!

Thanks! Yes I’m fact I tell people that buying an ES compared to an LS is getting 80% of the car for 50% of the price. The gap isn’t as big as you’d think. My top spec car has many of the same features as the LS (noise cancellation, double pane glass, etc)

@@InternetDude That really is a great value. Do you know if the double pane glass comes on the luxury trim or do you need to step all the way up. I can easily do without extra tech features and such, but I'm really after supreme comfort and isolation at highway speeds. Of course getting that at the best value is nice too so I'm looking at used models back to the 2019 refresh. Not many ultra luxury's but quite a few luxury trims to choose from. I've enjoyed following your journey because I've tried Tesla too (only as a rental) for the electric experience but the road noise actually gave me a headache after a few hours, was really bummed about that. Ride comfort was also supremely compromised for sportiness. I've also been very intrigued by the rav4 prime but they are so hard to come by and I do a lot of highway driving so I think noise and suspension wouldn't be as good as I could get for similar money on a different kind of vehicle. I'm with you though, the es300h would be ideal in a plug in form. Hopefully that's coming.

Stumbling across your videos just now has given me a little more confidence to do pretty much the same thing. I have a 2020 Model S that, this year alone, has spent 12 weeks in the shop here in the UK. I'm drawn to Toyota and to Lexus for their reliability but am still wondering if it's the right thing to do, given one of the things I enjoy about Tesla ownership - perhaps the only thing I enjoy at this point in time - is the throttle response of an EV. Am concerned that in going from a missile to a barge I'm going to grow bored, and am putting a lot of hope in the laid back style of the Lexus enthusing me in other ways. Welcome your experience there.
@InternetDude

We used to have two Model S's in the garage, but due to needing too many repairs we got rid of both of them. We now have a Lexus ES hybrid and a RAV4 Prime (plugin hybrid). The Toyota Lexus reliability is legendary. My Lexus has 34,000 km and has needed absolutely zero repairs, I love it. It's efficient, quiet, smooth, full of features. I would say I do miss the off-the-line acceleration of the Tesla and the good app/software but otherwise I don't miss the endless repairs and hassle of dealing with Tesla. I would definitely recommend you go out and test drive the Lexus you like and just realize that slow acceleration (comparatively) just means you won't need your car in the shop on a regular basis LOL. It's also nice now to be able to phone the dealer about an oil change and they answer the phone and get you in right away. Lexus/Toyota service is better than Tesla.

Loved your series on your LS experience. Other than the massage feature, do you miss the ride, or is it comparable? I just drove a 2018 LS 500 today and wasn’t wowed like I thought I’d be. I’m coming from a 2012 Avalon. There is a regular non-hybrid es 350 ultra luxury I can look at and since you made the jump from an LS to an ES, I was wondering what you missed most except for the massage. Do you find the ES is more nimble? Thanks.
@InternetDude
@InternetDude 7 ай бұрын
The ride quality going down the road is very close, I don't miss the ride quality. Air versus steel suspension the difference shows up on the different road surfaces (e.g. pot holes). If I had to do it again I would maybe consider the LS500 hybrid (used) as the depreciation on the LS500 is atrocious. If buying new, the ES is the better all-around car. I have found the ES more reliable, I have ~37,000 km and it's been 100% flawless, not a single issue. The ES is on the same platform as the Avalon underneath.

Love this car. How does the road/cabin noise compare to the LS500 and the Tesla?
@InternetDude
@InternetDude 7 ай бұрын
The Tesla cabin noise was by far the worst due to the roof glass, no noise cancelation, etc. The ES that I have is about as quiet as the LS500, they both have active noise cancellation. If the sunroof shade is closed it is the quietest.
@bag2963
@bag2963 Жыл бұрын
Hi, congratulations on that. What about it being FWD while LS is RWD, isn't that a big downside for you? And also LS is still reliable right, if you are going to insure cars anyways why would you need extra warranty years? Just interesting.
@InternetDude
@InternetDude Жыл бұрын
I have studded winter tires on my ES, I've never had traction issues. My LS500 was AWD but it had all season tires, it actually had worse traction in winter because of that. In summer conditions FWD vs RWD is meaningless to me. I just prefer to have a newer car for road tripping as they are more reliable.

I wish they would work on evolving the overall cohesiveness of their interiors. Nice overall but I can't stand the look of the HVAC system and buttons below the main middle screen. To me that whole area just doesn't fit the look of the rest of the interior. Genesis & many other OEM's are producing a more modern interior design in my opinion.
@InternetDude
@InternetDude Жыл бұрын
The location of the volume / tuning knob is just about perfect, I wouldn't change that. The HVAC buttons themselves I don't mind, as I do sometimes change the fan speed to low or turn it on/off. I would say the interior has a sort of "dated/older" look to it, even though the car was fully refreshed in 2019. Lexus and Toyota both tend to be behind the curve when it comes to tech, features and what-not. With that said, I think when the ES gets redesigned it may take more of an NX or RX interior look with the bigger screen, less buttons, etc.

Tnx, this is what I would like to do as well. What´s your opinion on sound insulation? Is the LS much more silent, or is still not that much of a leap? Cheers from Sweden!
@InternetDude
@InternetDude Жыл бұрын
Hi @almoines1. Surprisingly the cabin noise is about the same between the ES Ultra Luxury and the LS500. Both have a form of active noise cancellation inside. The LS may be a bit better but it would be negligible. The only wind noise I hear normally on the highway is from the sunroof but I keep the cover closed on the highway so it's quiet anyway. Same for the LS.

Hello, I am an owner of a 2021 ES250 AWD, from Edmonton AB, also in the same moonbeam colour. But I have the older interior colour(flaxen) I think overall the ES is such excellent value for the money. Mine was under 50kcad before taxes and everything, It’s a premium package (top package for 250) which has 99% of what I need, if there something I would want more would probably be the mark levinson. It rides smooth, quite and comfortable, good AWD system, and get excellent highway fuel economy (5-6L) and decent around town (9L) however I wish for a little bit more power from the engine on the top end but that’s it. I really like the ambient light that you installed, if you don’t mind me asking where did you get those from? Thanks.

What does happen, when you use the panoramic view function with the mirrors folded? Do the cameras on the mirrors deliver any picture? What do the shift paddles actually do (especially in normal mode)? Is there a real world application for this? Perhaps "shifting down" when anticipating an overtake maneuver?

Is the car made in Japan (vin number should start with ''J'')? How's the difference in the ride quality vs the LS (was the LS ''carpet'' like)? How's the difference in the ''real life'' fuel consumption vs the LS? 2019 ES300h UL owner here with almost 100 000km from Montreal. I daily drive my ES to work and it's been pretty much perfect (only a mini rattle around the passenger side glove compartment at low speed ; got used to it). It sometimes crosses my mind to upgrade to the full size sedan like the LS or the S-Class just to have that ''ultimate'' feeling. But the thing that stops me is the terrible MPG and that it won't much of a difference in term of the ride quality and overall experience since the ES is smooth as butter and have a great presence on the road (I love big luxury sedans). As you mentioned, I like to own the car from the get-go since I am a car guy who loves to take good care of my car
