I have had two dachshunds, both of which have lived to be 18 years old. I'm now 81 and just had to put my baby down last 4th of July. I would love to have another one, but I do agree it's a lot of work and a lot of expense. My heart yearns for Spanky. He had back surgery at a year and a half old. It was $5,000. And he was very mischievous I think all together over the 18 years I had close to $10,000 in him. He had chewed a rose bush one day I thought it was a thorn in the back of the throat, took him to the vet she had to nest the size him come to find out it was a stinger from a bee that he bit while he was chewing on the roses. I could go on forever with all the mischievous things he did. But he was the most loving dog I ever had and I wish I could have him back he was a red long haired dachshund.

Stella is so cute!!! She looks a lot like my Maude (I have 2 long hair-mini dachshunds and have raised the breed for many years). I see so many potential dachshund owners in here and wanted to throw out a couple tips: for spaying- try to make sure all their baby teeth have come out before, on occasion, they can need a baby tooth extracted (just be in communication with your vet). Back health- dachshund back health is core to a long, happy life. Keep them on a healthy diet- no people food. Keep them exercised regularly. Stairs are fine for dachshunds, but I restrict mine from jumping up and down from furniture.

Thanks for showing Stella’s first year. My mini dachshund is 13 weeks now and I’ve had her for a month. She’s a doll! I can understand about chewing all the bed lol. She’s on her 2nd crate mad 🤦🏾‍♀️😂

Hey Holly, we're living in Vancouver and have a 6 month old, long haired mini Doxie! He's black and Tan and called Alfie! We love him loads! I know you talked about Stela having reactivity issues, did she ever have aggression issues? My little guy hates it when we try to move him from a comfy spot on the sofa or take a bone from him, did you even have any signs of this with Stela?

Holy shit, i was just watching some Dachshund vids and WOW all these pronunciations are the same, but man. I was brought up in Australia, and as far as i can tell, we all pronounce it as Dash. Hound. so Dachshund, to us is dash-hound. Like 😂

Thanks for sharing your Dachshund Stella with us. I have owned many Dachshund's in my life but my last one who lived for 16 years was special and different. We bonded in a way that was so special. I had bone on bone problem in my left knee, I would lay in bed in so much pain, my dog knew when it hurt me. She pushed her nose into my left knee and pushed both paws on it. Amazing how they could tell. Had me left knee replaced and she stopped. She was a long hair mini female and looked like Stella. I plan on getting a new Mini Long Hair Dachshund puppy in about a year or two. Oh my I miss my doggy, life goes on.

It tells me, an ole fart, that nature is trying to tell you to let her be a mom. Your a beautiful young lady an I would have really hate it if your mom had fixed you when you were young. The esttoy to ply with for any dog for me ha always been a car fan belt that I would boil in beef broth. They will never tear it up.

Coompletely boring. Repetitive. Dog slept the whole time.
