Thank goodness he got adopted into a good family, he'll need lots of therapy from previous abuse. Poor little s10. Best of both worlds with this one, a truck and super gas saver.

The previous owners caused the overheating by changing the radiator to One without a shroud. Then they started to overheat and removed the thermostat so that it would never get up to temp. Constant flow will keep the car cool IF there were fans to also help. The downside is that during colder weather the car won’t reach temp (bad gas mileage) and the heater wouldn’t work as well.

Before you bolt the bed down replace the fuel pump that is in the tank under the bed. Looks like this truck could use it.

Many times, with an OBS, if the fan or fan clutch are screwing up, it's also your water pump. Ours didn't fully go out, but we noticed it was starting to sleep when we were replacing it all after a full send that sent the fan halfway through the radiator in our Suburban.

I had a MINT '92 S-10 with the 4.3 I traded my '88 Z-28 for. You could perform surgery on the engine bay it was so clean though it had over 80k+ miles on the clock. Detailers knocked it out of the park, it looked SO NEW: Black with chrome wheel arches, black steelies with chrome beauty rings an plastic center cap, covered in some great Hankook tires , camel-back stepped bed cover with chrome rails, grey interior with bench seat. The ONLY thing I wish it had was a manual, an I'm not really sure if the the 4.3 came with a manual an bench seat during this time. To this day, I'm always looking for the same truck. Mine was 2x4, NOT 4x4, an in mine eyes, the best base for a refreshed turbo'd 4.3. Even had an audio specialist make a custom mount for the radio that DIDN'T need the common "radio bump" adapter to fit. I believe they actually reshaped the heater ducts behind the dash so it would flush-mount like factory. Had replaced the wheel with a custom alcantara wheel an headliner. 3" square fog lights I'd drilled an mounted to the front bumper that looked stock an used one of the interior blank panels with an OEM switch. Like it had always been there. Even went so far as to save for a decent Garrett turbo an parts to make mild boost an make a tribute to the GMC Syclone I'd always wanted, but could never afford even back then, an didn't want to get TOO crazy for an every day car. Hell, the 4.3 felt like a healthy 5.7, just missing two cylinders anyway. The very thing that made me fall in love was that 4.3. Even N/A, it pulled like a train, an felt faster than some of the V8's I'd experienced before. The perceived G's for what it was, was addicting. Kinda like a Honda Goldwing. You didn't hear anything, but FELT everything. I need this truck again.

Definitely going be following along for this build. I'm thr owner of a 1993 4.3 S10 along with a 2002 4.3 S10 and have owned a few other 1st generation S10 in the past .

Without a thermostat wouldn't make it overheat it's the shroud that made it overheat

That engine may not have much power, but it is super reliable. I had one in a bought new 1986 Pontiac Piero, with a 5 speed. I kept that car 11 years and put over 200,000 miles on that engine, and it was still running like new when I sold it. For anyone using actual Superclean (not the wheel cleaner) DO NOT get it on your hands. It WILL take the skin right off, and I mean RIGHT NOW. It's also a good paint remover. It's like a super concentrated oven cleaner.

Autozone has a dope radiator flush kit. You split the line going to the heater core and a little t bracket fits into the line thst has a fitting for a garden hose so you can hook your garden hose up and run the car with the hose going, to completely flush the system good. I always use a little bit of powder dish detergent for the flush and then let it get a few heat cycles before I flush again. Keep giving it a few heat cycles and flushing till the water comes out clear and you'll be good to go. It really made a difference in my car.

Get some 2 inch spacers and throw the vette wheels on that thing

Interesting fact, even though it’s just a s10, the gmc syclone held the fastest 0-60 for 20+ years. It was even faster than some Ferraris in that time. It was also the fastest “truck” up until late 90’s early 00’s .

If i remember correctly its the 2.5L Iron Duke motor. I think you should do a Syclone style build.

Iron Duke... a 2.5L iron blocked 4-banger that will run forever...just not make any power an drink gas an oil. You could time 0-60 with a calendar. Heavy as hell for what it is, an what powers most of the postal truck/jeeps in your area. Was also in the first gen Pontiac Fiero if that gives any indication. Think of it as the Mopar Slant 6; a 225ci motor with 2 extra pots that also drank gas, leaked oil, no power, but you just COULD NOT KILL. (Unless to tackle a 1% grade uphill).

The Iron Duke 4 cylinder 2.5 liter. It’s got 4 pistons from the 305 sbc. Reliable af, took trips cross country no issues just slow af 😂

Not factory radiator, 2.5 4cyl cover used to say 4 tech 😆, it never burnt oil but when I parked it it was going out of timing, ggz 👽 last 4 year I drove it, screwdriver is what u used to pop hood haha

Decent truck really they are hard to find not modified. You might need to adjust the valves if the cap and rotor doesn't fix the miss. Maybe a fuel filter also.

On my foxbody i use to own i was able to free 12hp and 14ftlbs of tq throughout my power band just by ditching th clutch fan and going electric. Also. Not that it matters, but thats a throttle body, not a carb😂

Hey be careful removing the stock fan. I have a 1994 s10 with the 6 cylinder engine. If you remove that fan it might change the way the truck starts. Idk bout your truck but mine uses the fan a little to add weight and balance to the rest of my engine. When I took it off it caused it to shake.
