Hey guys, long time no see and yes, that’s a skin fade haircut you can see in the thumbnail haha.
Well technically in this video it’s a zero fade, but I’ve actually been asking for a skin fade when I go to the barber, it just grows really quickly and it doesn’t stay as a skin fade for long.😅😂
00:00 - Intro
Anyway, the reason I’ve decided to check in here today was for a few reasons.
1. I miss you guys and wanted to say hello.
2. I wanted to share an update on how my new role at work is going.
3. Obviously to discuss my new skin fade short top hairstyle.
4. What my new KZfaq schedule Looks like.
5. To give you guys an update on what the hell is happening with the Man Buns & Manes community.
00:44 - Job & Work Life Update
So putting the buzz cut skin fade aside for a second, the job is going great! I’m incredibly stimulated with what I’m doing right now and the workload has certainly gotten bigger as I anticipated!
So to be honest, stepping away from KZfaq was the right decision in order for me to really throw myself into my job and I’m starting to find a good rhythm now which is how I’ve managed to even put this video together haha.
I also just miss being on here and talking checking in with you guys. Like I said before I left I literally haven’t stepped away from doing this for longer than a month in 8 years, so it felt extremely weird and I think it’s something I’d still like to keep doing but I just need to be really careful about how much I commit to. More on that later though.
I think I should probably address the elephant in the room, my new haircut!
03:09 - My New Skin Fade Haircut
So what’s with the skin fade? WHy is it not a skin fade with LONG HAIR? Wasn’t long hair meant to be forever?!?!?
I explain this more in the video but in short, having a bit of time away from making content has helped me take a step back and realise that although long hair works for me and it’s been a great way for me to connect with my audience, it has kinda consumed my whole online identity and when i thought about it, I’m actually much more than just a guy who’s enthusiastic about long hair lol.
I love long hair, I love short hair, I love fashion, I love looking after myself, I love learning new things, I love trying new things and I love connecting with people in all sorts of different ways.
& I feel like if I’m making content I should be doing my best to reflect all of that instead of pigeon holing myself into a tiny little box about 1 thing.
I also think I’ve been craving something new for a while now and I didn’t realise it until I separated myself from this whole environment and actually had a minute to think about it.
So here I am with skin fade lol!
What is a skin fade you ask? It’s pretty much like any fade except the lowest point of the hairstyle is shaved to the skin and prgressive gets longer as it goes up your head.
Actually whilst I’m here writing this I just gave myself a great new video idea! I think I’m inspired to make a video about fades now lol.
Perhaps a video on the Skin Fade vs Zero Fade? Let me know what you think in the comments.
Moving on, once I initially decided to cut my hair off again I was like the ideas would not stop flowing because when it comes to skin fades the possibilities are endless you can get a skin fade taper cut or skin fade mullet or skin fade mohawk or a skin fade curly hair style, a skin fade undercut, a skin fade buzz cut and the list literally goes on forever.
So I had a very hard time deciding but I ended up going with a skin fade with a short top just to keep things simple and I’m absolutely obsessed with it.
Although I’m enjoying my new look and want to encourage you guys to pursue the look you want, I don’t want my new look to make you feel like giving up on your hair growth journey just yet. Every man needs to grow his hair out at least once haha. So hang in there!
06:04 - My New KZfaq Schedule.
Seeing as I’m running out of space whilst writing this description, I’d like to encourage you to watch this part of the video so you know exactly where I’m at with my posting commitments.
07:28 - What’s Happening With Man Buns & Manes?
As mentioned in the previous point, please watch this part of the video for an update.
08:18 - Conclusion
So that’s everything that’s new in a nutshell. I really really miss you guys a lot and look forward to checking in here with you every now and again.
I’m sorry if I’ve disappointed any of you but leaving the long hair behind, it’s just how I’m feeling right now and it doesn’t for one second make any of my previous content redundant. It’s all genuine and all there for those of you who wish to continue.
I hope you have a wonderful day today and I look forward to seeing you next week for my very late 6 month beard roller update.
Yours in good hair,
Thomas.

Thanks, dude. I needed this. I started growing my hair out 44 months ago (at the time I was looking for a new "project" since I had decided to stop coloring it green after 2 years) and your content was my main inspiration and information resource. I'm cutting it all off today and even though it was 100% my choice, I'm still a little anxious about it. I love my hair and loved growing it out and anyone seeing your video or this comment shouldn't stop if they want to keep going. My decision was made a few days ago and now that I'm only a few hours away my feet are getting a little cold. But seeing an unexpected update from you on my KZfaq front page with hair shorter than what mine is about to be has given me strength and reassurance at the perfect time. Thank you, Thomas, for taking me (and so many others) with you on your journey so that I didn't have to do it alone. You look great.

Glad to see you’re doing well! The new look suits you. I’ve been watching your channel on and off since 2015. You’re a legend! Always been there for long hair inspo. Sometimes I miss my short fades too, but I don’t miss the monthly haircut or the anxiety of getting messed up by the stylist. But it is tempting in the summer.

I'm still growing mine out since June 2020. I have thick, curly hair so it grows really slow, but I'm sticking with it. It's been a little over 2 years and it's finally getting close to my shoulders and I can finally tie it up in a bun. I love how it looks on me. I never felt comfortable with short hair but now with long hair I can do so much more with it. If I want to let it down I let it down and if I want it up and can tie it up. This channel helped me through so much of the awkward phase and I learned how to care for and style it. I don't think I'll ever have short hair again unless I go bald.

Had long hair for the longest time too but recently got a cut and went back to my short spikey hair haha! Having long hair was cool, made me feel better about myself and just overall gave me so much identity in my circle. It was a difficult choice to make but ultimately, I realized that I only liked how it looked and felt when it was tied up or in a man ban. I absolutely hated it when it was just untied and free-flowing. Thanks to a cowlick in a weird spot, my hair doesn't have nice "direction" like other people. It was extremely irritating when my hair would get in my face every time I had to bend down. My long hair would just look horrible and out of place, not having any direction, style and not complimenting my face whatsoever. I wanted it to look good untied but it just never was without any styling products or blow-drying which I didn't always have time for. Now my head is lighter, my face is no longer irritated and I just fit with so much more styles now. I no longer spend an eternity washing and drying my hair, and cleaning all the strands that fall around the house. I haven't looked back since and just happy knowing that I was able to experience growing my hair out. It was a good experience but it's become more of an inconvenience for me in the long run.

Could you let us know how you get your hair to get flat like that? I have hair like yours, but even when it's short it grows up and out at the length you have. Also, why is it so expensive to maintain at your current length? What products are you using to style? With our hair type, I've found that it's hard to manage whether short or long. So more hair tips on any length are welcome, especially as your short hair here looks incredible! Show us how to do the same!

Thomas In Action I just scrolled back and I started watching in ≈2020, and good luck trying out stuff and you could go in between or just do something different too or whatever fits best, but yeah this crew cut is good.

You're a true long hair Veteran, I've shaved my head Three years ago and I absolutely loved it. My hair is medium length but I don't do much with it accept dying it or having it up in a ponytail. Needless to say, I like short hair on me more I don't mind long hair, but if guys can switch their hair then why can't women in general do the same??? Anyways, do what makes you happy much love to you Tom you're awesome and super sweet 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤

I don’t think I could even cut mine mine that short again. If I did, I agree I would never grow it out again (well maybe, idk). I started 2015 when I got sick and was in hospital and transitional physical therapy after. I just stopped cutting it, the top didn’t bother me at all, the sides were horrid, because my hair is so thick. I did an under cut for years and years, and it grew very long when I was sick and surgeries in 2018/2019, I actually had an appointment to shave the undercut the week we closed down for Covid pandemic. I used this as a chance tk just grow the sides out, it was hard for like 6 months, couldn’t put it all up and just itchy, then it all grew and I cut it myself, I had bleached on ends from prior color, so I cit all color out and it looked great and was all even, texturized it, cut into it, and 2 years later when I went for a cut, my stylist said my hair was so healthy (I wasn’t using heat, air dried and no flat iron, because I wasn’t going anywhere.) she was surprised when I said I cut 6/8 inches off and I was expecting her to say I needed at least that much more off and she said you really only need 1/2 inch. I went with 2/3 inches, layered a little, very subtle, then she talked me into Brazilian blowout, best decision ever, it literally changed my already straight hair, but VERY, Very frizzy, especially if I blew dry it, and it became exactly how I always wanted then I decided to color, I wasn’t icy platinum blonde (on my super dark hair, and she achieved it with 125/150 foils, it was ombré Skype done balayage style where it just melted all together. I let it grow to 25+ inches maybe more, then decided for warmer weather I wanted another blowout and cut 6 inches and did more long layers and a nice masculine ish face frame. I was nervous how the color would turn out, but the ombré part was 1/2 cut off, but layering it actually make the icy platinum MUCH more visible, I love the evolution of hair. I like to see how it changes without doing much. Once a year I do Brazilian blowout, 2 times a year a trim (I’m going to try for 4 this year), and maybe a color in summer agsin but lighter this time, but a lot less. Next month I’m doing a silver/ashy toner myself!! (Since it’s temporary I’m not nervous, and I don’t really like the all over sane color, I like all the different shades), sorry for long comment, just sharing my hair experience with someone I think really appreciates hair and people who try new things. I did all of this because I loved it. I have many people including family members that hate it, but I’m the only opinion that matters!!
