There seems to be a lot of Fujifilm shooters who switch to Nikon. I haven't seen Canon shooters switching to Nikon, but I hear both Sony and Fujifilm shooters switching. Could be interesting to know, if there's a way to find out about this, if this is just pure anecdotal or there is something to it.

I actually decided to choose the Nikon Z6II over a Canon R6 because of Nikon’s mirrorless lens selection. I know at first Nikon was really criticized for the direction they were taking in regards to lenses, but I feel like now their lineup is far more fleshed out than Canon’s. I hope you’re enjoying the Z-mount as much as it sounds like you are! As always, great content!

Was the criticism due to lenses being large
@shlawchablaas
@shlawchablaas 2 жыл бұрын
@@cj7073 I think a big criticism at the time was that they started with f/1.8 lenses, the 50, 85, and 35; people presumed they weren’t pro lenses because they weren’t 1.4 or 1.2. Then they released the 58mm f0.95 before releasing a more practical professional 1.2 lens, which people found reasons to complain about. They’re all really good though, and the 1.8 lenses make a lot of sense since they’re really well corrected but still relatively small, and good high ISO performance makes up for letting in less light. Still, I understand, we all always want MORE BOKEH!
@sonholee5769
@sonholee5769 2 жыл бұрын
@@shlawchablaas And the 1.8s aren't as expensive, right?! I'm sure they will make 1.4 and 1.2s and slap a yellow band around it and charge $$$$... hehehe

I have to say that I really do like what Canon did with their compact 16mm lens. Wouldn't mind such a lens for Nikon as well, in line with the 28mm and 40mm.

I’m a Nikon z shooter and I definitely think Canon’s RF glass selection is substantially better. The compact 70-200 2.8 and the 28-70 2.8 are both a big advantage for many types of photographers

Christopher frost just reviewed the 24-120 and he said it’s one of the best he’s ever tested. I do the same Job as you Omar so I know why you love the 24-70 2.8 or better yet why you “need” it more than love it. I too need it but I use the 24-120g vr and for the event work it’s great! I realized that I’m usually at 3.5-4 anyway when using the 2.8g I hate that lens too heavy and carrying it all day shows up on my body the next day especially when the you add a speed light. Check out the new version of the 24-120 very versatile. They are also releasing the 28-75 2.8 let’s see how good it is Matt Irwin has one just unboxed it so reviews will be coming it’s about 1100

Living in New Zealand, as soon as I read the first review of the 24-120 f/4 lens for Z mount, I jumped on line and bought a copy through a local importer who gets stuff directly from Hong Kong, Thailand, and Japan. A reasonable deal. Definitely one of the best lens purchases I've ever made. So versatile and makes such excellent images!! Later I learnt there were long supply delays in the US. @@Funktrainer I have had the 135 f/2 AI for ages, but recently got a half-priced 135 DC for my Nikon Df (the DC ring wouldn't lock so the lens went for only $260 or so). Thomas Heaton just did a review/discussion of the 24-70 f/4 vs the 24-70 f/2.8 lens. He is a landscaper photographer so the f/4 lens was pretty much a no brainer. I think for the work you do speed is much more important with the low light situations. Welcome to Nikon!

Omar: I apologize for singing with the chorus, but your posts are among my favourites anywhere. The reasons? (1) you're entertaining -- save me from the earnest academic reviews and posts; (2) you're knowledgeable, and your views are practical -- your choices and compromises of weight v. "specs" v. . . . . tradeoffs . . . always seem to match mine, and are always considered and self-questioning; and (3) YOUR PHOTOS ARE GREAT. It's a pleasure seeing great images, with wonderful (but frequently simple) compositions that call attention to your subject, your story, your place -- all without calling attention to the photographer. Your stuff doesn't scream "I'm Omar and look at me even though you can't because I'm behind the lens!"; rather, your photos just say "look at me -- I'm great!" Keep it up, sir!

I enjoyed the video. Your images are wonderful . I have had the 24-120mm f4 S line since December. It has effectively replaced my 24-70 f4. Great lens. The 20mm 1.8 S lens is incredible as well. It could easily replace what your old Sony glass used to give you. The advantage that I have is being a Nikon user for a very long time. I often still use AIS manual focus lenses, adapted, as well as many F mount options. When I want character, simetimes those old lenses are the ticket. I have deliberately kept my Z system light, knowing that I can use my high speed F zooms, if needed. However, two F lenses you highlighted are definitely still on my wish list….the 105mm f1.4 and the 300mm. Dreamy stuff!

I also purchased the Z-mount 50mm f/1.8 S lens. The resolution, color and rendering are superb. I'm seriously considering the new Nikon 24-120mm f/4 S lens for travel and general use. As mentioned the eye autofocus and tracking are not as good as with Canon and Sony offerings but the color rendition and dynamic range are what matter most in my work. In my photography journey I've shot just about every brand of mirrorless camera but there is something really special with the Nikon files. Nikon shooter here. I heard a lot about the 105mm f1.4, some people compare it to the quality of Z glass. If I didn't have a 85mm 1.8 I would have probably gone for this but it does not make much sense for 20mm extra and 1/3 stop of light to buy this since I am happy with my 85mm. I use DX Z cameras, I am holding off on an FX body purchase to see what Z9 technology will trickle down to the new Z7 or Z6 once they come out.

Thanks for the input. Left my Fuji X-H1 for a Nikon Z6 II and intended to go for the holy trinity of 12-24 / 24-70 / 70-200mm and nothing more. So far i ended up with the 14-30mm F/4, 24-70mm F/4, 70-200mm F/2,8 - but had to ad the 50mm F/1.8 and the 85mm F/1.8 Thought of changing the two F/4 lenses for faster ones, but i think you just talked me out of it. So far i also kept my old 85mm AI-S F/1.4 & AI-S 135mm F/2.8 for fun and experimenting. Now i have become more interested in what i can do with the 1.4 as you state that that F/stop is bokeh bokeh bokeh. I am still trying to figure out which lens to chose for macro photography. Omar, in line with the telephoto selection I got the F-mount Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E VR AF-P (released around 2017-2018) and it's light and cheap. Because of it being an AF-P lens the focusing tech is the same than that on the Z lenses and it works fast and accurate on an FTZ adapter; I own a Z6ii and the f1.8 Z S trilogy: 35, 50 and 85 and I can't remember a time when the 70-300mm felt different when focusing...just my 2 cents

Hey Omar, just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos (been watching them for years, we bought the XT-20 practically at the same time!), whatever the subject is :) You're a great guy and I very much like your style and humour while being informative at the same time. That's it, just wanted to say that, as I am watching a Nikon Z series (with no intention to switch from my recently-bought EOS R setup) just for the enjoyment and fun to hear your thoughts on them! Keep up the good work and ciao from Italy! :)

The 300 f4 takes the sickest portraits. The compression is insane.

Indeed! Long focal lengths like this make for great portraits. Just watch out as too much ‘compression’ can be almost as bad, in certain instances. Almost like using a wide angle can be on the opposite scale. Sports Illustrated shooters often use 300-400 mm focal lengths for the swimsuit stuff. 👍✌🏻📷😊

Super helpful review. Lot of focal length overlap in your collection, but you made some solid points on why you’re still holding on to some of your duplicate lenses, which I understand. I have a Voigtlander 58mm manual focus, which I love, but to marry with the Z7ii is going to require the purchase of the FTZ adapter, at about $200, which I’m reluctant to invest in. 👍👍

Very well done review of what you’ve gotten and why. Both good and not so good. This was very helpful. What I’m looking for next is something longer reach that the 70-200 f4 G I picked up. Nice lens and great price but need more. Was thinking the 200-500 f5.6 E. Or really splurging on the new 100-400 Z. But the 300 PF never crossed my mind. I’ll have to rent one and see if I can stand not having a zoom. Thanks so much.

Rented the 300mm PF and really like it. So light and compact even with FTZ and a TC. Looks like a keeper. Also rented a 200-500mm af-s f5.6. I don’t know what I was thinking. This thing is a monster and heavy as xxxx. Seems like the 300 will work for mainly life and will probably rent the new 100-400 Z when needed. Like the occasional air show. So glad you had this on your list.

Excellent to hear your thoughts on Nikon gear! The f4 24-70mm is so good because it's also an S lens. PS. Viltrox make Z lenses with AF...

I would be very interested in a little speed AF test of the adapted lenses compared to the native ones. Especially the 300mm maybe compared to the Z 70-200, but also the three different 50mm. Great video as always ☺️

I've been watching your videos for some time now and I am always amazed by how you find that absolutely beautiful light for those portraits. Other that that, very nice videos. I viewed some of them multiple times, I admit :)). They helped me a lot and they're funny too :)) Btw, I own two D750s and 20 1.8g, 50 1.8g and 85 1.8g but today I ordered my first Z6 II with the Z 50 1.8S as it's Black Friday Pro in Ro. Can't wait to grab those and try them out.

Because I watch KZfaq on my TV I don’t usually comment just press the like button. But your videos are GREAT, I like the way you review gear but then add your own photos of what the gear can do “your photos are amazing by the way”, I love the way the colours POP!!! I’m a Fuji guy myself and just waiting for the XT5 or XH2 to drop in May and see if I stick with Fuji or jump ship. The autofocus needs to be improved or I’m off. Photography is my hobby, not my job. Thanks Omar

Love the overview of your stash Omar. Yeah, the 24-70/2.8 Z doesn’t make much sense to me (ergonomically or financially). I love the f4 version, it’s the perfect size, and great even wide open. I’m eagerly awaiting Nikon making a 28 f1.8 S.

Good choice, the 105 has been Nikon's best since the beginning with the Sonnar 2.5 version and the 'Steve Mccurry' famous AIS version.

Hi Omar, I have similar lenses: z 24-70; z 14-30; z 85 1.8; z 50 1.8; f 70-200 f4 (I sold my beloved f 70-200 f2.8 to reduce weight when traveling). Recently purchased z 24-120 f4. One word: stunning

Love your work Omar!! I have Nikon (D850) that I can't part with plus a Fuji Xpro3 with several fast primes. I tend to use the Fuji most of time but love the Nikon!! Also recently purchased a Nikon F5 film camera which I'm enjoying!!

Omar, you’ve got a serious case of GAS! 😂 great choices of lens and the PFs are beautiful. I’ve got the 500pf and it’s fabulously sharp and light for the focal distance. The new 24-120 F4 looks incredible as well and by all accounts is very sharp at all focal lengths.

Maybe you should get the new FTZ adapter and see if that fixes the focusing issue, I heard it does. But yeah the Nikon Z6II has been working very well for me, there's something about it. The biggest thing for me is the grip, its comfortable (unless you are using heavy glass) and the button layout I quite like. I only have the 24-70 f/4, 50 1.8S and the 28 2.8 SE - But I wish I had something longer for certain photos and that's where I struggle. I like the idea of the 300 f/4 PF but I saw how expensive it was and its a bit out of my budget! Haha. So I'm thinking about getting the new FTZ adapter and adapting the newer Tamron 70-200 f/4 VC and see what happens. Great video Omar. I hope to see some winter photography with the Nikon soon!

Excellent Omar thanks for sharing your set/views. I am glad you have moved to Nikon as I have just moved from a series of Nikon dslrs to Z7, and I think your channel has always been good but now it is directly relevant to me so have subscribed. As others have said your photography is excellent- you have a gift for composition which I find tricky at times. Thanks again. Ps I find the z 24-70 f4 that picked up really cheap used amazing…I have hesitated to consider any primes in the 24-70 range, might just continue with old manual Ai mount Nikkors with a cheap z converter for now!📸. Regards Andy

Mr. Omar G. aka Mr. Kit Lens (that needs to be clicked open first) Guy. 😉 I spent a long time with FujiFilm then moved to Nikon a couple of years ago. Other than Fuji's UI and tiny lenses, the Nikon's been terrific. I loved your pics with the Fuji's and the Nikon as just as strong. Also, solid KZfaq channel; just as entertaining as it is informative. Take care.

I use a 50mm f/2 Leica (very used) adapted lens, which I had when I shot with an M6, on my Z6ii. It’s fantastic if you don’t mind manual focus.

Ok, really interesting. I had thought you had bought the 70-200 because I remembered you loved it when you had it on loan, but definitely the 105 makes sense, and the 300 seems like a cool choice. I have the 70-200 and the 2x TC which on a crop body comes out to 600mm 5.6, so the same as your setup, but yours was probably lighter and cheaper to get the same quality! I kinda feel you on the 50mms and 24-70mms… I just picked up the 1.2 S and the 2.8 S respectively, and man, they are huge! I had the Nikon 50 1.4G which is small and beautiful but is not so well behaved with fringing like your Sigma Art; and I started with the 24-70 f4 and already knew it worked really well for me most of the time. I guess I just fell into the trap of thinking, I really ought to be using the “pro” glass, so I need to buy the 1.2 or the 2.8. I could possibly see myself selling one or both although there is no doubt they are awesome lenses. And finally, speaking of amazing, heavy lenses, I also love my Sigma 28 1.4! Not enough people seem to know about it, or even the idea of shooting wide lenses wide open. Maybe a video idea in there somewhere?
