If you lock two nuts against each other at the top of those cam cover bolts you could easily use a torque wrench.

Old school diagnosis technique: Remove the spark plug wires one at a time to see if its a rod knock. The knocking sound will change on the cylinder with the bad rod bearing if the sound of the knock changes when the spark plug is not firing. If the knocking sound does not change when the spark plug wires are removed one at a time, then the source of the knock is not a rod bearing gone bad but is from somewhere else.

Hi I commented on the second video that sounds like a bolt on the flywheel got lose and is tapping on metal if the car is automatic I seen this happen a lot and people confused the sound with a rod knock great video

Get yourself some crows feet attachments for torquing bolts that you can't get a socket on to!

In Japanese, we'd call this car furyouhin (不良品: defective goods). May have a bent rod from overboost and predetonation.

It didn't sound like a top end problem to me as the pitch was too low. I would've said rod knock. Definitely not main bearings. The work was worth doing though if you're able to fix the real issue. It is just a K10 Micra under the skin. The Micra was on a par with other small Japanese cars of the era such as the Honda City/Jazz, Daihatsu Charade and Toyota Starlet.

Today the 26th there was a strike at the post office in England...some parcels might be delayed but some won't. Who knows ..
