Not in the Manhattan market for a 2BR it's not. There's a lot of people here that can easily afford to pay their $3000 share of that quite easily.

I lived in the East Village for 30 years. I met my husband at a club there and did my internship/residency there. My apartment was like yours with a lot of light and I saw the Empire State, Chrysler buildings as well as the WWC's from my top floor walk-up. When I first moved there in 1991, the community was so small that people would say, "Yeah, you're the new girl in town" lol. Paid $1800 for a one bedroom in the end before Jared Kushner bought us out and turned the units into dormitories for young Wall Streeters in 2011. Still worked in the EV until the pandemic. Now I'm a country girl within striking distance of NYC and Dual Spice Shop on First Ave... one of my favorite haunts. Thanks for a glimpse of your lovely life!

Elena - you have carved out such a beautiful life for yourself!! Being in your twenties, living in NYC, in the East Village no less in a gorgeous apt w/laundry!! Halleluiah! I have seen many of your videos here on YT & have always enjoyed your content. Love design, decor & seeing how people arrange their homes. So much fun!! It was so special getting to see where you live! I am in my fifties & live 25 mins outside of the city - pretty much my whole life. And though I never lived in NYC - it's always been a simple train ride away which I have always appreciated. Many of my friends lived in NYC in their twenties while still single & no kids & have all been so thankful for the opportunity...which was a plus for me cuz I always had a place to stay over! I wish you good health & fun as you continue your wonderful career & journey enjoying all that NYC has to offer!!

Akira is actually a movie and u should watch it because it’s really good and blew my mind. You definitely don’t need to be into anime to watch it! It’s a cult classic and was very revolutionary to the point it inspired a whole wave of cyberpunk/sci fi media (even in America). Even if you’re not into that kind of stuff, it’s an excellent movie and probably one of the best to come out of Japan (warning, it is very intense so be in the right mindset to watch it) 🥰

My part was $667. Lived there from 2002-2006. Saw the East Village getting gentrified all around me in those 4 years. Little mom and pop shops turning into bullshit sex and the city wanna be boutiques and trendy hipster coffee shops. All these fucking spotty yuppie college pricks popping into bars. I work in the East Village and I must tell you, You guys are not paying for the apartment, you are paying for the Area (No Balcony/Terrace??...Not worth it, it really is not. You can get that same size apartment (for yourself) for less in Queens, Bronx, better part of Brooklyn, (staten Island you can rent a house for yourself for $2,000) a ferry ride to Manhattan. smh

I don’t understand that if they can afford to pay this much in rent why they are not buying. Maybe not right here, close enough though. No one can tell me that they cannot afford to. This is ridiculous, making someone else rich while throwing $72,000 a year just basically down the drain. I’ve never understood how this country embraces the idea of renting anyway. No one should have to pay another rent. Just an insane concept. This woman is akin to a wealthy serf. Ridiculous.

Saving up enough money for a down payment while paying rent is nearly impossible in a super expensive city like NYC. It’s not like you can get a mortgage for $3k as a down payment… especially not in cities that have more c competitive markets. I live in NYC. If you’re a single person it’s super hard to save for a house and pay rent.

"I don’t understand" "No one can tell me that they cannot afford to." Kind of hard to understand things if you don't allow people to explain it to you

@@bcs1793 I look at it this way: To rent this apartment or anything like it actually the tenant would have to pay first & last month rent. A pet deposit, he broker fee ( renters did have to pay a broker fee in NYC up until a year or so ago) Add it all up & almost $20,000. As I stated they may not have been able to purchase in this building or even in the next block. So what though? All the decorating, wallpaper & painting these people do making the apartment more desirable & expensive for the next tenant. To each his own I guess although I don’t understand anyone paying this kind of rent that is only making someone else wealthy. Think about it. If there were 20 apartments in this building & they were all paying $7500.00 a month. The owners of the building would be collecting $150,000 a month in rent. Of course there are expenses that isn’t the point though, why not buy a little further out & build on one’s own wealth instead of someone else’s?

@@CatherineLeighe With a 20k deposit and 3k monthly payment you are not buying "a little further out", you are in Staten Island. Adding hours of commute to your day, and not enjoying the amenities of living in a city - which you might now want, but they seem to do. Not to mention that you are assuming they want to live there forever, which also doesn't seem to be the case.

@@bcs1793 This is my opinion & no one has to agree with me. It’s a lot of money to put out every month for something that does not belong to them.
