As someone who has tried almost every screwdriver, the insulated Wera is my go to. Screws stick to the tips like nothing else. They can grip stripped out heads. And I like the fact that the insulated drivers keep you from scratching things in tight places. I have virtually every Wera driver but I carry a toolcheck plus and insulated drivers in my kit every day. The battery powered vessel driver and their bit set are a must have as well, but Wera drivers and hex plus are second to none.

Wera is typically my go-to, but for a driver handle that can interchange with different blades/bits, the Wiha has insane bit fitment and no wobble and the grip feels better in my palm than Wera. Then for ratcheting, I love vessel, especially how you can take off the top, and have a built in shorty. Speaking of ratcheting, the smoothness and backdrag I feel like the Apex is even better than Vessel

If I need a tool I either borrow or buy it. If I need to borrow a second time I buy one. Yeah I’ve been upgrading all my sockets/ratchets to Ko-Ken, but I did get a couple Nepros ratchets also just because they’re so pretty haha, I couldn’t give it up. Wera screwdrivers are interesting in that you either love them or not. I have one Wera racheting screwdriver and I dislike the handle, it never feels right to me. My favorite screwdrivers are Mayhew, who doesn't make screwdrivers as their main product, they make punches and prybars. But their screwdriver handles are really good.

One thing I would recommend here Matt don’t know if you ever wanted or thought about this? Is to visit a shop maybe like a Porsche shop? Talk to the mechanics on what their favorite tools are. I only watch other toolbox tour channels to scour and find new tools brands or tool numbers in pursuit of the very best of that tool type. Sometimes, I have found the best tool that functions everyday for me (mechanic myself) is not the best looking I think Koken Z series nails both but that is not easy. I have some snap-on tools but that is because they take abuse like no other tool in that category. Sure it doesn’t look great but I need it to hold up. I also think that organization of tools makes that tool look much better in the box. My toolbox looks like yours various tool brands but all just are functional excellence and any that don’t get used or I don’t enjoy using simply get given away. One thing I am not seeing is a multimeter. I would say if you can afford it Fluke. There is a reason for it’s price and that is my most used tool.(Besides my computer) this is a sweet project and I’m sure there are a ton of people that want this just picked out for them. Tools I would say are purchased much more in a collection with financing as well. So I think that is important to look into as well since these collections will be hard for some people to buy in full.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 3 ай бұрын
Here is the problem with that logic. Mechanics don’t have the time or money to buy and try a bunch of stuff. They are at the bottom of the marketing funnel. You need to go to the source, the manufacturer. That’s what I do.
@gabriell4031
@gabriell4031 3 ай бұрын
@@ObsessedGarage I don’t mean the way of getting the items I mean in that finding other tool brands that maybe are not known yet. I have some tool brands in my box no one around me has heard of and they are super great no overly priced tools. Maybe everyone here chimed in but I still think there are tons of brands out there that just don’t have a recognition like these big brands. This project is awesome nevertheless
@1thechosenjuan1
@1thechosenjuan1 3 ай бұрын
@@ObsessedGarage I think op meant something else. Of course you would have to go directly to the manufacturer in order for you to order and purchase your inventory. I think he meant that might be able to find some type of “insider info” on a new brand or tool that you weren’t aware of before since mechanics would be in the know.

Love Koken! Nothing like it. Perfect ratchet would be 3/8 Koken Z 8" (LOCKING if it exists?) flex head quick realease head with that nice grip being just a little bit longer. Certainly an appealing product just on aesthetics alone. My only thing is the posidrive screwdrivers they have. If I only have metric european cars (BMW, Alfa Romeo), is there any need for the posidrive? Ko-ken is also very nice too, I have one of their 3/8 socket sets and a nice little 1/4 inch set (z series). And more recently a Facom 1/2 and 1/4 socket set. On Hazet, I bought one of their German made (at least that's what the box said) torque wrenches, the 1/2 inch one. I wasn't impressed by the quality at all and returned it.

All this tool talk is making me want to upgrade to a new tool cabinet and order an essentials kit of Koken tools but I'll wait until it's all dialed in. Hopefully the new cabinets hit the store in the near future!

Will the stainless screwdrivers be more likely to strip out or break than a standard screwdriver?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 3 ай бұрын
I think they may. It is likely a little softer. The reason for them would be to use with Stainless fasteners. I just like how they look, so I'm keeping them, but they certainly aren't necessary.

I just snapped a stainless PH2 Wera last week, but it didn't strip. I don't know which is worse, haha.

Thoughts on the grip edge stuff?
@cheeseo9798
@cheeseo9798 3 ай бұрын
Those and the rbrt sets are legit the best version of the hex,torx, trppl square, etc… Mac RBRT seems to have way more products available then gripedge even tho it’s their tech probably have to wait till a contract ends to produce the other stuff under the grip edge company. I have been buying everything second hand for like 2/3rd the price from the tool truck/ Mac site. Definitely worth having over the regular stuff.

Just Googling their site, it looks like typical Chinese Amazon stuff to me, but I've never seen them before.

@@ObsessedGarage Sadly it is made in china by Proto, available by Mac Proto, Facom, and USAG last I looked. Mac R.B.R.T. versions have more options a bit better to me quality wise. Let me know if anyone wants the Proto link it’s priced the same as gripedege

Most were redundant. For example I like the push-button style ratchets that made the normal version not necessary.

Seems a bit out of touch with what someone who uses tools as a job would purchase. Says he bought snap on and doesn't like it but prefers to use Chineseium

I spent $50K on Snap-on. I generally don't sell to people that need to use tools. Its mainly enthusiasts.
