My Opinion On Lexani Tires

In this Steve's Garage video I cover my experience with Lexani Tires on my 2000 Volvo V70 XC. I purchased my 2000 Volvo V70 XC with Lexani LXTR-203 tires on it and ran them for about a year. I experienced all 4 seasons with Lexani Tires, and was left less than impressed in all conditions. Even dry summer conditions, the Lexani Tires were lacking traction and confidence when driving.
This is not an in depth comparison of different brand tires. This video is simply meant to share my experience with Lexani LXTR-203 tires on a Volvo, and why I would never buy them again!
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I'll gladly have a discussion about the Lexani tires and further explain my opinion on them.
As for the tires that replaced them, I had some Michelin X-Ice snow tires. I've used them for years and love them as a winter tire. I've since put on Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires on my 2000 Volvo V70 XC. They are a fantastic all around tire that gives a bit of a tough look and performance off road without sacrificing road noise or comfort.

Literally the only review of these tires I've ever seen calling them bad.

I'm sure they're great in a dry climate, but these are by far the worst all season tires I've ever used.

I’ve had them before on a 2002 ford focus years ago, I’ve never ever spun out in the rain going 30 mph on a wide turn I had taken hundreds of times faster in worse conditions. With these tires I crashed and it was my first time ever. Second time was in light snow with them. These are some of the worse tires I have ever used. Years later, this has never happened to me again using any other tire. Albeit I’ve gained more driving experience as well but nonetheless these tires at the passenger level are garbage. Maybe the tires sizes made for more luxury style cars are made better but not the ones made for everyday daily’s. I’m here because I wanted to see if they’ve improved because I was debating on trying them again since they are $47 each right now but I think I’ll steer clear.

@@Galacticdemos I appreciate the comment! While this video is a couple years old at this point, I don't think the tires have improved. I think they're cheap for a reason and would definitely avoid if you live in a place that gets more than summer type weather.

I have them on my 08 Civic Si. Dry climate is okay, but wet conditions suck. I spin in 1st and 2nd if it’s even damp, and cornering grip when wet sucks as well. They’re comfy and quiet tho if you don’t care about performance

@@asianmanfromasia Thanks for the comment! I would say the biggest thing is they don't give me confidence as a driver. Even on my car, which is a lot different than a Civic Si, they struggled to grip in wet conditions.

The comments are hilarious. Nobody listens to the whole video. Now as someone who listened to the video, I'm going to still try them out on my miata as they're $49 each on amazon and I they'll drift and donut as much as they drive on freeways so they don't need to be all that capable. I actually have Lexani Terrain Beasts on my f250 and they ride well and grip fine, no complaints.
@StevesGarage

Thanks for actually watching! They'd be perfect for a Miata, especially if you're looking to tear them up anyway. Do you get snow where you are? Just curious about the tires you have on the F250.

What is the production year on the tire? Maybe they are old and the rubber starting to turn hard? All brands start to turn hard after 3 years or so.

I honestly never checked the date code, and I don't have any photos good enough to see it. That being said, I've had tires that are much older than 3 years that still perform fine. Even the Michelins I put on it are over 5 years old and perform much better than the Lexanis. I've been purposefully taking the car out on some wet and snowy days to test them out and they're a huge improvement.

people should know by now, that all seasons really dont hold up for winter, you need all season and winter, want one set of tires? get all weathers, then youre really set
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage 2 ай бұрын
I'm the first person to say get dedicated snows. That being said, a high quality all season/weather tire will work if you don't want to run two sets of tires. These are just bottom of barrel tires. Not good for anything outside of warm dry weather.

I don't know but they make a really great set of rims, I currently have extreme contacts on there by continental but the tires won't last more😢 than 2-3 years here in Arizona.. the rims are by lexani and they're chromed aluminum always getting compliments they held up even went over a open manhole at three in the morning.. a little damage to the tire itself but no damage to the rims I need new tires anyway that's why I'm here debating if I should get these or not... probably not but I'll tell you right now that's only makes some of the best rims around... I actually didn't know they made the tires.. I have 225 50 R 18's I got my first set of tires in 2018 ...in a month or so and then I have to get new ones and it will be my third set so I've already gone through two sets of 4 Continental extreme contact s I'm on my second one right now.. and they're practically bald.. my car is a 2013 with 80,000 miles on it I don't drive more than an average person a year, got the first set at 35,000 miles got the next set about 50,000 miles so the tread life on the tire says 50,000 miles but I'm only getting about 30 maybe a little less on tires that cost about $240 apiece now, I might be able to find it cheaper

I've never used Lexani wheels, but I have used all sorts of Conti tires and have always had a great experience with them. Maybe being in the desert/high heat wears them down a little quicker? I don't know, I've never lived anywhere close to desert conditions 😆 Glad you like the wheels though, thanks for the comment!

Appreciate the video. They look much older than 1 year old use and the discoloration on the sidewall is bad too. When it get that dry dusty brown it because the polymers are leaving the rubber. You don't see that typically from 1 year of use. Maybe in desert regions with tons of uv but that's not good. Gunna pass because of this video and get some rikens for 2x as much
@StevesGarage

It may have come off wrong in the video - I had the car for a year, I'm not sure how old the tires were. I didn't look at the date code on them. That being said, I've had 7 year old tires that looked better than these haha. They are terrible tires in anything but dry weather, and even then I could break them loose. Definitely worth paying a little more for a nicer tire. It's the thing that connects your car to the road, the cheapest option is never the best for something that important.

Got some bad struts. Saving to get some coil overs so I'm going to get these just till I can get the struts My car eats tires like a kid eats candy. Just hydroplane 3 times going to work Wednesday in 15 miles haga
@StevesGarage
@StevesGarage Жыл бұрын
Is your car eating tires because of the struts? I'd fix what's eating the tires, then get some quality tires. Especially if you're hydroplaning. Coilovers don't mean anything if you hydroplane off the road because of bad tires.

My civic is running -5° of camber considering these but if they are that bad with a full pitch on the road idk how it would be with only the inner half of the tire😂
@StevesGarage

Do you live in a warm, dry climate? Maybe these aren't so bad if you're just going to burn through tires with that much camber. But if you're going to see any kind of cold temps or decent amount of rain it might be better to avoid them.
