It is so nice to make a custom bowl with wood that means something to the customer. If a neighbour provides me with a log from their tree I make them a bowl from it too, for free. My best was making a bowl for the daughter of a dying good friend, from a willow tree that she used to play on as a child. It is now her favourite piece.

A pleasure to see skilled production turning -- the efficiency, the tool mastery, the economy of motion, the speed. And still a beautiful bowl, pleasing lines and attention to detail. I love the deep color that pear develops and your client should be continually delighted through the years with her artisanal bowl. Thank you for your generous time and sharing. Greg

I watched one of your videos where you didn’t talk the process through and I felt a bit disappointed. Your talking through out the turning is what makes you stand out in my opinion. You have a great way of communicating and making a difficult process seem easy! I hope you never change. You are the standard by which other turning videos should be judged. You and RR!

I always watch your new videos and enjoy your no nonsense description of what you are doing. I always learn something. It was 39 degrees Celsius here in central Victoria, Australia, yesterday, to hot to go near my shed so warched all the 4ways videos for February instead. Amazing work.

Nice work. For the past month or so I’ve been using my bowl scraper to finish the inside bottom of my bowls like you and Richard Raffan do. It’s working very well for me. It’s quicker and the finish is much better than any other way I’ve used. Thanks for sharing your techniques!

I used to work with a guy that was so fast, but I work slow and steady and employ solid techniques and at the end of the day I always had more progress on the job than him. Rushing leads to repetitive motions, going over and over the same thing

another great performance. you operate at a high level. do you have black locust(robinia pseudoacacia) trees in your area? I was wondering if they can be used for making food grade bowls after oiling/waxing for cold foods like salad, cereal etc. Thanks for sharing your techniques and skill.

I think in terms of pure beeswax,there are some differents but I'm no expert on that.... Usually on candles there is parafin wax which is different to my knowledge

Is-it Ok to use CA glue on a bowl for hot liquid?
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 4 ай бұрын
Hmm not sure, Usually if there is CA glue then there is a crack or split,and hot liquid will find a way to expand that crack.... If really hot stuff will go in there find timber without defects

i donno how your math work but,you have to go get the wood,prepare the blank,turn the bowl the first time,wait for the drying process,turn the bowl once its dry enough,do the sanding,finish,you have to include the cost of the sanding paper you use,the finish product,the gaz for the wood prepare and the gaz you use in your car/truck to get that wood,the cost of electricity of your shop,the cost of the wood too, and the time you work on the piece..how do you make money at 25 dollars? this is why i dont sell my turning anymore..i give my work to friends and the rest is packed on box
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning
@tomislavtomasicwoodturning 4 ай бұрын
It works for me, not everyone has a big standard that can afford to buy this size bowl for 100$ . When I rough turn bowls I rough them atleast 50 at time, everything is batched in few hours.... I can finish a lot of these in a day to sold them in batches.... So take this math, I don't and neither should you count drying time, so time invested in this bowl from blank to finish made is 17min, I bought entire log for 40 $ , got 300 bowls out of it. This smaller one is 25 and they go up to 80$ , so I can make good enough money and keep customers in line and wanting to buy my stuff beacuse I don't charge absurd ammout.... Cherry that I have cost more beacuse a log was way more, but still in cheery this bowl is affordable to most people.....
