We decided to move into a RV and travel so I had to give up my aquariums yesterday! They needed to go as I was so behind on maintenance one was green from algae! The water quality was good but they looked terrible and were fully overgrown with plants. I put so much time into them and boom they are gone! It’s harder than you think to give up hobby

"I was so behind on maintenance" and "I put so much time in them" don't go together. But I understand that life sometimes gets in the way of maintenance. I went from 15 aquariums to zero when I had kids. I'm retired now and I'm considering building a 16'x20' insulated building to house a few 125+ gallon planted tanks

@@ComancheWarrior63 You can put a ton of time into them initially and then still end up behind on maintenance. Sure they don't sound like they go together, however, setting them up and taking care of them for months before falling off on maintenance when life gets busy doesn't discount the amount of time that was sunk into them to begin with. I get where you're trying to come from, though

QOTW: I have an orange molly that we just lost today, her name was Rosie. I think she just had a hard time giving birth, because water parameters were great. It may be also because my air pump disconnected for a bit and I didn’t notice, I feel so bad but the FTR cheered me up so thank you! My baby sister cried because she was her favorite fish and Rosie always comes in-front of the tank when my sister is around. She said she’ll take care of the 7 babies she left! Story’s a bit sad but thank you for cheering us up with the FTR!

Somewhere, one upon a time, there was a 5 year old boy named timmy. Timmy loves fish, so he bought the best gravel, plants, and decor. In the end, the beautiful blue and pink gravel, the plastic purple-blue plants, and the artifical ship, aswell as a skull and spongebob house created the perfect tank. In the end, his fish flew into the sky and never came back down. Edit: thanks for 1 like omg

My black cat is named Bagheera. The guppy colony is nameless as are the Corycats. I share a Bullhead cat with my sister that's named Bullwinkle.

I have a good betta story... So my swim team was doing this gift trade at a local bowling alley a few Christmases ago. I got the first gift pick. I (of course) picked the largest bag, and there was a really pretty blue veiltail betta in it, along with bright blue gravel, a plastic plant, and a 2 gallon tank with a cheap filter. I was horrified inside and as soon as I got home, I tried to quickly cycle one of my 5 gallons with filter media from my main tank, and prayed to god there wouldn’t be an ammonia spike. And Thank goodness, there was none, and that betta is now living in what I think is a beautifully scaped aquarium. As for the rest of the stuff...I have no clue where it is.

First one. Is like opening the little door in the basement, and seeing 3 starving children in a small. Smelling room full of pee and poop. Giving them a stale snack, and them eating it because they are starving. “Feeding my chlidren”

my pet's name was neptune, he was the first betta i bought from a breeder. unfortunately last week he contracted dropsy for reasons outside of my control and after numerous epsom baths and kanaplex treatments he passed on... i miss my boy, he was a great pet. fish are such underrated beauties.

QOTW: My Zig Zag Eel we've named Loachie Boy and he's honestly turned into one of my favorites in our group. He's really fun to watch move around the tank and go in and out of the hardscape and he loves being handfed. He's a spoiled boy :D

QOTW: For my fish my Betta is named Chilli, I have three platies named Torpedo, Saffron, and Garlic. I also named my mystery snails based off shell color so my gold one is Goldy, then Blacky is my other one. And last but not least I have Big Mama who pretty much named herself because she's the biggest albino corydoras in my tank. As for my other pets, my Chihuahua is named Chika. My guinea pigs are named Cereza and Jeanne (after the Bayonetta characters).

I have a betta getting stuck story. My long fin betta Harry Winston is pink and his head is black(unnecessary info lol) shares an 8 gallon planted with neocaridinas. They were having babies like crazy so I thought I'd pick up a shrimp hut. One morning I come out and Harry was stuck head first in the hut! I tried tapping his face and swishing him in the water to get him out. Pushing him all the way through wasn't an option because I was afraid I'd break his back! I finally got him out and he sunk to the bottom of the tank looking dead. I have a 1 gallon holding tank that I filled up and put some bark since it has microbial properties and placed Harry inside with a mini heater to rest. It took about a month but he fully recovered and only has a small scale discoloration where he healed. I felt so awful! So yeah no decorations ever again! Besides my live plants....

My fish died last night, gave him a burial today. I was really sad for the entire day, but, FTR made me feel better that he didn't die in a bad aquarium.

QOTW Answer: As far as aquatic pets, I have only named my two goldfish and 3 of my apple snails. The goldfish are Big Red and Kitty (a calico). And the apple snails are: Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and Crispin.

oh man I've got that same AT-AT (6:02) in my work tank and the first time I saw my boy inside it- I had a heart attack and was rethinking all of my life choices and imagining awful things as I got him out of there :( :( :( then as soon as I lifted the lid, already half in tears- he zipped right over to demand some breakfast. he's full sized now and still likes to hang out in it, and the back windows are plenty big enough. thank god.

All right for just my betta I have Gerald, colonel mustard, Rosie and sunny. One gold algie eater aquired the name Dragon bc she is massive. My male adult BN is called Stinky. (He smells fine.) The glow tetra are collectively called the tetraminos bc aparently tetra sounds like tetris. My dad's dog is named woody wood.

My bettas are named Sushi, Honey, and Kratos. My dogs are named Cherry, Jack, Luna, and Jesper. Mine and my sister’s cats are named Bug, Bean, and Chloe. I know it’s a lot but I promise we have the space and not only are all of them fed really high quality food but all of my non-fish pets also have health insurance to make sure that they are covered for any health expenses they might need.

I had someone rescue a fish from me. I was new to fish keeping and my neighbor had a 20-gallon long with 2 Plecos that he said were "small". I got them home, and they were huge and unhappy because the tank was way too small. It was too late because they were already in my home, and even I knew they couldn't stay in that size tank. Luckily, I found a nice couple to take them and get them a bigger home. I felt very fortunate, and they even sent me pictures. The plecos looked so happy. Partially my fault. I should have asked more questions. It was done on impulse, and I learned my lesson. At least now the fish are not suffering anymore. The neighbor later admitted he had them in that way too small of a tank for years. So sad.

The Common Pleco should be in at least 75 gallons! I now have 2 Clown Plecos in a 29-gallon. There are smaller breeds of Plecos. Never put a common Pleco in a 20-gallon! That is way too small!

It's stressful how there's a negative image on people calling their pets their children because usually those people don't take care of their animals. Too often, people who refer to animals as their children personify their animals to the point where they're abusing them. I believe that unless you're providing everything they need and caring for them properly, you shouldn't be allowed to call your animals your child. I don't intend to have children, so to me, my animals are my children... and because I see them this way, their care comes before mine and they live as lavish a life as I can give them. That's what it should mean to care for an animal as a child. I don't want to imagine how they'd treat a real child if they can't even take care of a fish properly.

Yeah... I don't mind if some people call their pets their children, I do when I get defensive over them, but I'm also never going to have a human family and also think if people really care about their pets... They'll give them the best care for that animal species that they can and hopefully have sense enough to realize that surviving isn't living and, just saying, a human can supposedly starve to death in a month or dehydrate in a week... But I bet no one keeping fish in bilge water is volunteering to test that theory ^^'. I honestly just don't get people that don't even try, ik I've let a few tanks go over the years due to mostly mental health issues, but I've never gotten a pet without the intent to actually properly care for them and don't get pets I know I can't care for. I'm all for more people owning pets tbh but I'm even more for teaching proper husbandry and if local laws need to be stricter to protect more animals, honestly wouldn't object, everyone says feeder fish can't even live six months but the shortest average lifespan is actually 2-3yrs, 20+ on feeder goldfish so I think there's still quite a bit of very unfortunate misinformation being spread about what is and isn't acceptable with how one treats fish

QOTW!!! My cats name is Smokey, my dwarf gourami is named Connor and I have a bunch of unnamed cherry shrimps and other invertebrates. My dad bought me some guppies yesterday who I’ve named Greg, Greg 2, Greg 3, Greg 4, Greg 5 and Tango. I also have those who have ascended to fish heaven; Cato (my brothers former betta who lasted 2 and 1/2 years in his 5 gallon which is now home to my shrimps) and blue (a rescue betta that I recently lost. I tried my hardest to save him but when I got him he was already pretty sick and I couldn’t save him 🥺😢)

Names of my pets? Depends on which pets. My fish don’t have names generally, although I did once name a goldfish “Jaws”. Miniature dachshund is Maya. The person I got her from actually had 2 weiner dogs named Oscar and Maya (referring to Oscar Mayer weiners). My cats are Tammy and Catnip Everdine

when I first started watching ftr I had a 0.25 gallon tank with black rainbow speckled gravel and one double finned goldfish. when I heard chris talking about beneficial bacteria I thought he was talking about the smell so I didn't clean the tank at all and fed the fish 3 times a day! the fish died within a week

QOTW, I have 2 Mexican blind cavefish Stevie & Ray Charles, a mystery snail George and a female Betta Floppy. My other pets, 4 cat's Emmet Jacob, Stanley Michael, Simon Declan & Amelia Rose. One guinea pig Fuyumi. Female Syrian hamster Rei & male Syrian hamster Denki. A male mouse Kacchan. Five female mice Toga, Eri, Ashido, Jirou & Rumi. I have a mini zoo 🤣

Which pet? Bowser the corgi, Muta, Diamond, Sophie, Ghost and Chi the cats, Fake the goldfish, Barboach the dojo loach, the zoomies collective name zebra danios, Wishiwashi collective name guppies and finally Scuttlebutt the hillstream loach… all are very loved. And yea we have two fish tanks, all those fish are not together.

Mm they don't all have names! Moon the betta, Angelus the angelfish and Otto the Otocinclus, Roger the Red Eye (even though there are other unnamed Red Eyes?) ....beyond that they have group names like Baby Tet and the Widows, Corey Mamas, Corey Babies, etc, Coreys also get called "Namazu" or just "the Cats". I think getting an individual name in my tanks is mostly dependent on me being able to tell you apart from your schoolmates.

My pets' names... Gilbee the cockatiel Cookie the budgie Peacock the betta Cherry Bomb the other betta Ginger the wild bunny * Sugar the other wild bunny who's also Ginger's child ** * will actually come out of hiding and hang out with us in the backyard, will get within 2 feet of me when refilling my bird feeders, and has flopped down like a puppy while quite close to me. ** not as friendly as mom, but hangs out in the front yard

QOTW: My leopard gecko is named Smaug after the dragon from the Hobbit. My cat's name is Daisy - the shelter chose that name and I just stuck with it. My budgies' names are Bruno and Astrid though Astrid' nickname is Soviet because of her one eyed glare (seriously, it's like she's staring into your soul). Finally, my betta's name is Haku, again it's after the dragon from Spirited Away!

LFMAO that last picture and your commentary! Also about that chinese proverb on the clean water and fish. I believe it was ment the other way. That where are fish, there usually won't the water stay clean. Especially when talking about cyprinids. 😄

The picture at 6:13 reminds me so much of that one time when I came home from school and found my siamese algea eater stuck in a hole in a coconut shell. That one thing must be one of the stragest things that has ever happened to me as a fish keeper. If u wonder I got him out but I had to break the shell, and unfortunatley he died some days later because of his scales got damaged when he got stuck in that coconut. SIP

My mom went to get my aquarium water tested at Petco even though I already tested my water with my test kit. My mom told the worker that it’s been cycling for 3 weeks, and the worker literally said, “Wow, that’s bad” Ok now what.

My Monday is going great! My tradition is to put on FTR as I sit down to eat my Monday lunch... That first video kinda made me not want to eat for a minute there 🤢. Thanks, Chris from me and my pet betta named Ralph!

QOTW: Cat called Noraneko and several hundred unnamed cherry shrimp. 2nd tank has just finished cycling and I'll be splitting the shrimp into male/female only tanks today, as they just keep breeding and its becoming ridiculous! It will be a loooong job

Yay! It's Repashy and Chirs Show time, double yay! I dunt have a pet atm so no names for to give to them😢😢 But I've finally ordered a 12.7 gallon (58 litre) tank and stand with a heater and filter and light! Going to take my time and buy as many plants as I can rather than hardscape stuff, but have a cunning and controversial aquascape plan! The idea is to get the tank cycled before adding the fish, and the other night I had a dream that I visited an aquarist store. Told a member of staff that I was going to leave the tank a month to cycle, and he said I should leave it for two months! Should I listen to my subconscious pet store guy or is a month long enough?
