My dad used to raise and race homing pigeons in Pennsylvania. I loved his pigeons. I had my own pair of Mondenas. Love this video! Thanks!

Jordan a few suggestions on the birds. Use pine needles for nesting. Contain your birds so they can be handled and controlled. I would compartmentalize your loft area. Keep everything separate unless you like crosses. The key to being successful is breeding the best to best and that involves record keeping. Some fanciers are "hoarders" and I do the same. If you breed fancy's put a pair in with the homers, a pair in with the rollers ect. If you must buy keep it to homers, rollers. As for the loft. Have a landing board on the loft. Use a 45 degree 4 inch PVC pipe angle as an entry point. They can get in but the cats and falcons cannot. The homers cannot exit this point either. It takes a little training to get the youngsters to use it. A big health help is avoid drafts, feed vinegar in the water helps keep birds healthy and avoids disease. Feed only when you wants your birds back in. Let them out to fly and feed them after they have flown. This keeps them in the pen and not a target for falcons, and cats. Best of luck in the hobby!

Since you don't supply any straw for them to build nests they are looking for nesting material under the trees as in twigs etc .the loft is very open for rearing young birds in and very chilly .cheers

1 way to help the Pigeons from going under thoughes trees, they are in search of minerals and Grit. Go to a feed store and purchase a 4lb mineral block add a teaspoon of olive oil to their food the night before as adding probably about 3 teaspoons of the mineral block it will crumble and break if you hit with hammer breaking little pieces off at a time do this 3 times a week and their grounding abilities will stop.

Just keep one type of pigeon breed (I think you should keep racing pigeons) and build a medium sized loft for them with 2 sections, one for the flyers and for the breeders.or you could just add a extension to the loft you got now. And also your racers are looking for grit so give em some grit.

If you're breeding birds don't let them out, fly the fancy birds, your birds are on the ground looking for grit you should provide some

You should've put a leg band or leg ring on every baby pigeons you get out of the pairs, so that it would remind you the birth year of every youngsters and of course to indicate that they're domestic pigeons.

Your birds you intend to race should be housed in a separate loft away from your buildings and definitely away from trees and you should pick out around 5 or 6 pairs of good stock birds and breed of them alone to build up a good race team and concentrate around them you've got far to many pigeons all mixed up and flying around in that big shed you need to be in control of your birds handling them frequently letting them get used to you it will be a lot easier for you and the birds in the future
