I think it's about time I get to reveal what we've all be busy working on these past few months and still have a few left to go.
We're making a new artist book, this time even more complex and in two editions. In the video I show you some sketches, finished stages and I ask for some help in promoting the finished work later on.
If you wish to support my work and help me produce more content of this sort, please consider contributing in one of the many ways through my website: www.iostopan.com

Always glad to hear from you too, Sven! Work is steadily going forward. I really do hope the deadline I've given myself proves to be the correct one. Here is a strange winter with very cold and some quite warm days. Hope you're keeping yourself busy with something interesting. All the best!

Thank you for the kind wishes, Cornelius! Indeed I hope they come true, the patience part especially. Sometimes it gets a bit hard when the project drags along as much as this one has.

I am amazed you don’t have more subscribers. Your work, your presentation, and your own personal character are all so well developed, rustic feeling, honest, and quaintly mysterious. I wish you all the best, and I truly hope that I can one day afford to commission you for something!

Thank you for the kind remarks! I don't post often and I suppose my topics are kind of a niche subject, so I myself am not that surprised. To be honest, I've tried before to produce more videos but I found that it takes a lot of time and my creative work starts deteriorating. In short, I don't think you can make quality work and produce videos at the same time. Maybe one day if I have a helper to film and edit, things will be different. ( My son, when he grows up, haha)

Oh the ideas you guys have for this are amazing, cant wait for an update! I also liked one of the first ideas, that of covers opening in different directions, seems very interesting. The sketches for Boyan 5:06 first from left or second last (from left),they look dope! though i assume you want something more serious for such a project. Godspeed!

Thank you very much for always tuning in Turgon! I had that idea (covers opening in different directions) for a long time now. I always return to it in sketches but never follow through. Maybe someday I'll finally give it a try.

Hi stopan! Today I wanted to watch some of your old videos, like the Stewart and the one about leather, but realized they are not in the channel, that's fine, they are yours, but still I wanted to ask if you have them hidden? (instead of deleted that is) and if that's the case if you could share the links with me or something like that. Thanks for your time in any case. A little backgroud. I knew you in about April/May 2020, I was getting out of the hospital after a rough time and I found your videos really relaxing, eventually they motivated my to make my first book in july 2020, and I used them as reference.

Hello, Andres and thank you for writing! Unfortunately, I don't plan on releasing those videos again. Just trying to head to a different direction. Hopefully, this won't stop you making books. Best wishes!

@@Stopan Hi, tanks for the response Stopan! I watched your B&W #1, you are free to do with your videos as you like, and I understand and respect your decision. Still, can't help feeling a bit... sad? disappointed? I don't know exactly how. I still wish to say thanks, your work and videos and the book I eventually made are fond memories of that time. And yes, It's not going to stop me from making books (the next one will be my third). Respect to the reasons you mention in the B&W #1, I want to make some comments (with a very good will, as I almost never comment on YT as it requires time) If in the future you shifts directions in our work (maybe a bigger change than now) Will you erase your current videos? I understand that as you improve your older work seems inferior, It happens in all creative endeavours. But say people can see you past work, say, even 5+ years ago, I don't think that this is going to have the relevant people getting a wrong impression of what you are doing now, key word, now. May be it'll have an impact on the non relevant people. Because it's very clear that you are now on something a different, this also happens in academia, a scientist can research X from 2018-2022, but then can research Y from 2023-2027, and it can be fairly different (or just a bit different), you can always see their past papers, but if you want to relate to them in some way that affects them (meaning you want to be of the relevant people), you are going to have very clear what they re doing now, even if you know their past work. All of this is just to say that you history doesn't have to be a draw back with respect to how the relevant people perceive you. Regarding the people copying you, I mostly agree with you on that, It can feel strange and very upsetting when people copy you and worst, with the intention to make money off of it. I think I've seen one channel on KZfaq which seems a lot a like a copy (I'm not very much connect to this "world" of book binding, I'm just an occasional aficionado). The other aspect Is that we all copy in a sense, when I made my first/second book I looked at tutorials plus your videos and copied the processes, I made a simple black leather book with no ornaments, so regarding the exterior I didn't copy, but the processes of making them yes. And you may have improved on some aspect of your book binding but I guess you also learned the basics from someone else. This last paragraph maybe doesn't say anything new, but still I wished to write it. That's all, again, comments made in good will, as I said, I'm grateful for your videos/work, this are just some things I wanted to say. Take care! I'll be on the watch for future vids!.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, Andres! I think the short answer is - I really don't know. At the end of the day, I just want to be free to make the decision I feel most comfortable at the moment. I may upload everything again and I may even delete the things I'm posting now. I don't want to make any promises to anybody, not even myself. Also, I'm really not trying to convince anybody about anything, so most of the time I don't feel guilty about my decisions. "But say people can see you past work, say, even 5+ years ago, I don't think that this is going to have the relevant people getting a wrong impression of what you are doing now, key word, now." You are absolutely right and it's true for most cases. But people also don't think of things they don't know about / don't have in front of them. I have made more books before 2017 (when the Stalwart journals were made) than I have after that. I still have the pictures but nobody asks about them. My wish is to get rid of confusion, I know its forceful. I'm saying "Look at this now, don't look at the past", I'm not offering a choice and I know people feel the sudden disconnect. I do this consciously regardless of people's feelings, because it's important to me everybody to look at the direction I'm looking. At the end of the day I prefer people not liking what I do now but not nudging me to go back to what I've done before. The contrast lies in the fact that the audience looks what's already made, while the artist looks at what's never been made before and tries his best to make it a reality. At least, that's my priority, that's what I defend, because it's a very hard thing to do mentally and I try to remove things that get in the way of this process.

@@Stopan For some reason I didn't read this before. Thanks for the response! I got here because of your recent video. (I still haven watched, but as I still haven't written anything on the best book I've made (the second one), I've for some time thinking of just printing a good book and binding that xD, your video comes perfect!) just as you said! I can now see the old videos! and not the ones you posted three months ago! I now you said you do it regardless of people's feelings but, thanks anyways. I guess people asking for your previous work it's the downside of making your your work public. I thinks it's important for you to look after your own interests, so I understand your decisions. Still there was/is a value in your old videos, and I genuinely think the work is better off with those videos public! (but maybe this is just me looking after my own interest! :P \jk) I'll go and watch the new video when I have some more time, regards and keep going stopan! (for some treason this motivated me to go and make some videos I've been meaning to make for some time now)
