I work at a Dodge dealer and BOTH of these problems are very common but also very easily fixed. The cruise issue is fixed by simply replacing the switch. It's a $25 dollar part and about half an hour of labor. The water leak is caused by the seal around the 3rd brake light. Also easily fixed by simply replacing the light assembly. Any dealer worth its salt will have both parts in stock. Simple fix for both.

Just throwing my 2 cents in on the whole "don't buy dodge" thing. I've had my 2001 Ram 1500 since about 40k miles and it is now at just shy of 200k. I've had no major mechanical issue, leaks, or anything note worthy besides a water pump failure at 160k while leaving the driveway. I do not baby it either. It has never left me stranded and has been reliable. Every auto maker will have issues depending on the vehicle.

I work for Dodge in TN. 1st Cruise problem their going to replace the switch. 2nd water leak is coming from the 3rd brake light there going to replace that as well it's that's it. It's common for the 1500 nun major.

The leak is coming from the top brake light. My 2015 Ram had the same problem. My Ram had more of just electrical issues. Are you having any other problems?

I am on my second dodge. Recently bought a 2017 Longhorn, 4x4, Great truck. If the leak and switch is the only thing you have to worry about, then you have a great life. I had a 2014 Ram Lonestar and it had the same problem with the leak and the dealer took care of it. Previously had a Ford: Was a nightmare.

Fords has same issue with the break light it's the seal on the curve of the roof. if it's man made its going to have problems. doesn't matter who's emblem is on the front buy what you like

I have the same truck. Bought it brand new. I love the looks and power but it has had A LOT of problems. The electronics are a big problem and if yours is a 4x4, pay attention to any noise or odd feeling coming from the front end. Just had a ton of work done to the front end on mine (luckily it was covered under warranty)

My 2014 water just started pouring our from the headliner corners in the back. I thought it was the moon roof, but I never use it so I wouldn't think it would be clogged. My buddy said probably the 3rd brake light. I wonder if that's my issue.

I also know for fact these trucks don't have issues. I know 3 people with them. They all have 60k plus. Not a single problem. Mesmerizing.

Had the same issue on my 2014 Laramie right off the lot... you would slap the steering wheel and suddenly cruise would work. Had it fixed under warranty. I actually had 11 issues within the first 2 months of ownership... transmission needed a valve changed on it, sunroof wouldn't close properly, cruise on/off would not work, overhead lights would only turn on very dim, 2 front park sensors were not working and some other minor issues. Once the initial problems were fixed, the truck was 100% trouble free. Enjoy the truck, I LOVE my Ram truck :)

I have a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500, bought it used with 12,000 miles on it, it has 76,000 miles now, I’ve only changed tires and recently the brakes, I change the oil and put synthetic oil every 5000 miles, no problems what so ever, it even has the original battery, enough said guys!

I was looking at a used 2016 today. I saw the high rear brake light looked to have moisture in it. I’ll have to keep an eye on that if I decide to go back and look at it again. Thanks for sharing the issue!

These are not problems big enough to call the truck shit. Transmission and engine problems are real problems. The taillight you can fix yourself as I did. RAM is a great truck as are all the big 3. Support American trucks not wannabe trucks like Nissan and Toyota.

I've had my 2014 ram express for 2 years and has 40k on it now. Love the truck and haven't really had any issues with it. The radio presets don't save but that's minor for me. Overall it's a great truck and doesn't have any more/less issues than any other truck out on the market today. I've put a K&N CAI and a rough country leveling kit with LED lights inside and out. Still running strong fingers crossed.

I have a 2013 Ram 1500. The control module for the electronic power steering went out literally right after it rolled over 37,000 miles. Truck had to be towed and it ended up being $2,400 in repairs. Truck was out of warranty but Chrysler paid for the parts anyway and I just had to cover the labor. After doing some research I found out this was major issue for 13 and 14 Rams. It should have been a recall but never was.

I'm absolutley enjoying and really happy with my 2019 Ram 1500. I like the way it looks better than the other brands. I had the 2015 Silverado 1500 and test drove the 2019 Ram. I got the RAM immediately.

I bought my 2016 RAM 1500 Big Horn Hemi in May last year. It's now 1 year old, and I have not had ANY problems with it. (So far, LOL. Try not to jinx myself). I absolutely LOVE IT! Decent on fuel with the 8 speed auto. I think the RAM is the best looking truck on the road!

My 2018 1500 Night Edition with 21,665 miles. These are the problems I had already. 1- Driver window doesn't goes up on auto. 2- My U-Connect display got delaminated. 3- 4WD light intermittenly goes on & off on display as a warning. Third brake light went out and burned the socket. 4- Both sides Ram box covers cracked around the lock mechanism. 5- Overhead panel map light led passenger side start flickering until went all the way to dimm. 6- Battery died with just two years of use and I'm unable to start it.

Should of bought a chevy buddy.

Bought my 2014 Ram 1500. Around 50,000 miles had to replace the water pump. Just changed it again at 96, 550 miles. Oh and new thermostat too. Lucky the water pump i had changed to the first time had a life time warranty... bad part is i had to change it in the rain , well off and on rain . Had to get it done to get to work. 2 water pumps in under 100,000 miles , don’t think thats very good.

On Demontrond, I purchased my CPO 2011 300C Hemi while living in Conroe and the couple of times I took it in for warranty work they were great.

I put some black silicone adhesive on top of my 3rd brake light. .my cruise button doesn't work some times unless I push kinda hard on it..been replaced once

I bought a 16 off the lot with 35 miles last month and the trans cooler went out 2 days after I brought it home and my mist doesn't always work on my wipers

Had the same Cruise control issue on my 2012 grand cherokee, i just pushed the + and - at the same time and it solved the problem, eventually i just bought a new switch and replaced it

If I were you I would (after warranty expires) run a bead of very good silicone around that break light. Tape within an 1/8 inch from seam on both paint and light then really smear the caulk down into seam then put tape off. Just a lil tip from master plumber

I live in the Houston area too and my passenger floor in my challenger got wet from the thunder storm yesterday as well. i plan on taking it to the dealership this weekend to correct this issue.

I had my Ram 1500 just under 3 months now and just had to get my manifold fixed. Thankfully it only took just over a day.

Had that same problem with my ram truck. The water leak comes from lamp housing over the back window. Did have to raise hell about it but it's a known problem that they tried to ignore.

I had the same issue with 3rd brake light on my 2014 Ram 1500 and I discovered it was because one of hinge for the one of the bolt was missing. I now have a 2017 Ram 1500 and it doesn't have that issue.
