I went through RIP beginning of 05 before it changed to RASP. I tore my rotator cuff at Cole range. I was just absolutely defeated but a bad ass RI, SFC McDowell really lifted me up and put things back in perspective. I ended up in 2/505 in the Deuce then to 3/509 in Alaska. I got to do all kinds of cool ass shit up there, mountain warfare, tons of jumps, cobra gold, etc. I was WIA in Iraq and medboarded in 2010. SFC McDowell was KIA in Afghanistan but I will always remember him and respect him for refocusing me after my injury and subsequent surgery on my shoulder.

@@theholygrail8825 I lucked out and was only at Pre-RASP for a little bit. The Cadre were definitely incredibly fit, so everything was to there standards and it just sucked but doable if you don’t quit. Cole Range is definitely what everybody says it is, pretty much no sleep for a week on top of just getting your shit pushed in everyday. On the flip side I kinda enjoyed it lol.

So I wasn't in the military. But I was a corrections officer and local Leo for 25 years. When I got on our SWAT team our department hired a security contractor to train us. Our sniper team trainer was a ranger and the hostage rescue/fire team trainer was a British SAS guy. The traing was absolutely awesome. The sniper instructor was the coolest dude ever and he really knew his stuff about rifle shooting. Nicest guy ever. Dave, the SAS guy was super knowledgeable too and also a great instructor, but he LOVED to PT the shit out of us. He was only happy if we were miserable. The dude was in his late 40s and he could out PT pretty much everyone on the team. What an incredible experience for a guy like me to be able train with those guys. Hats off to all of you guys.

Woah Bro, I actually own Dick Couch's book "SUA SPONTE, The Forging of a Modern American Ranger". It's a great read for all those interested in RASP, it even goes a bit deeper than RASP and interviews a few rangers with questions of life in regiment, family, and even the culture of regiment. I'm sorry to hear about that injury man, without a doubt it must already be a Highly stressful environment in RASP. Knowing that someone is documenting that process must be added weight to the mental stress. Love the videos, thank you for all the info you're putting out!

Great video, I wish they had a complete program like RASP when I went to RIP. I ended up in 1st Battalion with some guys I wouldn't trust in the motor pool of a NG public affairs units. They didn't last long but they got me smoked over and over. CSMs Mesa and 1Sgt Espinoza loved to make examples of FNGs. They were like vultures, but they wanted the no-loadeds gone asap. Went from 11C to 35B in Regiment, then on to 352D (electronic emissions detection and location technician) at DIA. I'm pretty sure I briefed you while I was ISA.

10-4 on this story! I wish I saw something like this in 1981. RASP was RIP back in day . I went from Basic and AIT straight to AIRBORNE, , then to my duty station. A year later in July I went to RIP. I felt like that should have stood for Rest In Peace for real. I got smoked and lost 14 lbs. I didn't really understand the difference between RIP and RANGER SCHOOL. I thought that you got the Tab, don't ask, but I wanted to be in Battalion so after RIP I went to RANGER SCHOOL. I suck at land nav, but I passed with flying colors. So I got my Scroll and my Tab always a happy adrenaline junkie for almost 8 yrs. I recommend if you choose ether or both " Jump In" with both feet! Be committed if you have any doubt it will bite you in the ass for sure!

Oh I remember Brash. He was still a SSG when I attempted back in 09 before they switched the program from RIP to RASP. He was a monster on the PT field. I remember doing log PT and there were 4 of us on one log. Of course the Bat boys that were in ran by and called us pussies. We had to take this log and run around the track. I look over while we were running with this log and see then SSG Brash with a log similar in size across his back by himself just trucking across the track. He was intense but was never disrespectful. Always called everyone gentlemen and gave us real talk before he brought the pain. I was med dropped for tearing my miniscus in my right knee and ended up at Ft Drum.

Graduated RIP 98. Definitely remember that run from Airborne School w/gear. Didn't know what I was getting into but my boy talked me into it(retired CSM on some next level). Make no mistake, there were some challenges like the usual cardio/muscle failure dance. Didn't know about the swim test and failed 1st and 3rd station. So for the next set of miserable days - rucking, ranger creed eff ups, cooking asphalt w/those 'catch me & eff me shorts' and on graduation day - 2nd go at swim test. Passed. Looking back - screw those knots. RLTW

Pretty much mirrors my RASP experience. I guess you were that 2010 class. Not much changed in 4 years. I was able to convince cadre to give me a med recycle, but ended up with a med drop in my second class for a foot injury during the jump. I was devastated as well, but I still got to go to an Airborne unit and deploy. Now SF is the path. Rangers are a different culture than SF for sure, but more intense in a lot of ways. Its more "in your face", whereas SF is largely performance and personality based. I'd 100% recommend RASP to new soldiers. Prior service I'd say go SF, only because the learning curve for a prior service guy in the Rangers is steep. Its better to start there as Private and let the Regiment build you up.

9:33 Absolutely true ... People also often forget that CAG admit rangers form the 75th far more than any other units in the Army (70 to 80% of it is made up of 75th Rangers). Basically take a 75th Ranger, make him go to sniper school, Ranger School, get his HALO wings, and maybe SERE School to top it off, and he has more chances of making it into CAG than any other unit in the army. And getting into CAG is something some people in elite units such as Green Berets, 160th SOAR and others are competing for at some point in their carreer.

160th SOAR going to CAG? Kicking in doors? Or their aviation SMU?
@Innominat9
@Innominat9 3 жыл бұрын
@@lilmarine Yes, they can apply for it ... They would be taught how to breach during OTC I presume. CAG recruits from all branches of the military, although mostly from the Army, of which the Nightstalkers are a part of. There are counts of MARSOC and Air Force operators making it do Delta. It doesn't happen with SEALs as they have their own Delta that only recruits from Tier 2 SEALs into their unit, the DEVRGU. Actually there even is a DEVGRU who went to Delta after reenlisting, his name is MSG Kevin Holland. But yes, usually Nightstalkers are used for dropping/extracting CAG and 75th Rangers and other Special Forces units.
@lilmarine
@lilmarine 3 жыл бұрын
@@Innominat9 I understand what you are saying, but for the most part it is going to be Rangers, combat MOSs, and SF going to CAG. 160th SOAR is for the most part aviation guys. I have never heard of a 160th guy going to CAG to be an operator. I have heard of them going to the aviation SMU there.
@Innominat9
@Innominat9 3 жыл бұрын
@CRS Firearms So where do you get your information for me saying that I don't know what I'm talking about ? Let me guess, you know something nobody else knows... Or by chance you know an ex-CAG operator that told you they never ever recruited a NIghtstalker? What a pathetic keyboard warrior you are. It is a known fact they recruit from all branches of the army. If they don't, then prove me wrong and make everybody else retract this statement. If not m then i suggest YOU "Please shut up"
@Innominat9
@Innominat9 3 жыл бұрын
@@lilmarine Again, you are right, they mostly recruit from Green Berets and Rangers, for sure. But they have been known to recruit at times from all branches of the army, from regular (highly experienced) Big Army infantry to the 82nd, to (of course, as mentioned) units part of SOCOM so I don't see why Nightstalkers couldn't apply for selection as well... Edit: Oh you meant 24th STS ? Or their E Squadron ? I still would consider the E squadron part of CAG , I just misunderstood you then haha

In the last mile or two my ankle hit the deck and it felt broken but after falling back about 100m I had to hobble back up to my platoon. Finally took my boot off and mid shin to the tip of big toe was mostly black with a little bit of blue. Shoes doc amd he just said "you know what it means if I take this higher?" And I just lived with it since I wasn't about to get sent to a holding platoon. Took two years to walk right

Be in the best shape you can be and mentally take QUIT out of your mentality and vocabulary. This is how you make it through RASP and in Battalion. His assessment of what they do and to some extent why is spot on. Ranger regiment is a direct action special operations unit hence why they utilize aggression to weed out the weak, when the bullets fly you need to return fire and gain fire superiority rapidly, hence the term Ranger death blossom that happens when we took contact. Be prepared for sleep deprivation and not enough food and constant tests of your mental readiness but you can easily make it through if you remove quit from your options. RLTW!

I had a similar experience with a British color sergeant being the observer for my class. All the rasp instructors were dialing it up for us. Those ruck runs were a blast right at the end when they made us hold the ruck in front of us and climb suicide hill over and over!

RASP is super cardio heavy so be a good runner for all those who wanna go. Obviously make sure you can max push up and sit ups too but the cardio is rough. I was running a 1205 2 mile and a sub 35 5 mile before i went and the running still whooped my ass.

RASP still sounds weird to me. I graduated from RIP and we got black berets. Still the same though. I remember getting picked up by the sgt at airborne graduation. I think we lost 100 guys the first few days. I was in holdover for the first werjs. Major balls smoking.

I went to rasp not sfas but id recommend speeding up that pace on the ruck a bit. Idk if you went through basic yet if not you have a really solid base if so id work on the ruck time. If that was a walking pace the whole time youll probably be fine because youll kinda run/walk most of it anyway.

ROFL 🤣 was called RIP Ranger Indoctrination Program and we lost a few on the run from Airborne to RIP. First thing we were told was we don't care if everyone quits because that means we did our job. They meant it. Actually had a Captain who just graduated Ranger school let his dogs out of his truck to prove we weren't exhausted and could run faster. When I got to 2nd Battalion he was my company commander. Ranger Battalion is where Delta operators would come back to when they needed a break lol

No disrespect at all green berets are badass. I've always heard the analogy that going from rangers to special forces is a lateral move.

It’s not. Regiment has done so much high speed shit in the GWOT that they are the go to direct action unit. They proved themselves to do joint ops with Devgru and CAG. Most rangers leave the line company for RRC or CAG.

I plan on joining the Army as an officer and this is something I really wanna do. Because I’m tired of always being the bottom feeder and pushed around by all the dicks in my school. When I heard about the regiment I was captured. This was something that was bigger than yourself and it’s full of the best brothers in arms going through shit. I’ve been training with weights, running, push- ups, sit ups etc because this is something I want to achieve and be apart of. My biggest problem is running and ruck marching. I’m a slow runner and I’ve had a history of asthma ( i haven’t had an asthma attack since I was like 8 I’m 17). P.S. my dad wanted to be a ranger but during ranger school he was ruck marching with a bunch of guys and they were sleep deprived the guy in front of him veered off and he followed but then he noticed that the guy in front of him fell down a 20 foot cliff it was too late and two guys behind him pushed him in and he has a tearing meniscus till this day. He had multiple surgeries but it wasn’t the same after that. So for those of you going to Ranger school and RASP keep any eye out in front of the guy that’s in front of you. This was mountain phase btw.

They canceled your RASP in August? They didn’t cancel RIP in August for us even though the heat index was above 120, but they couldn’t smoke us after completing the road March, so they made us sit in the sun all day. I went through about 3 t-shirts just sitting there. Then we had shit sleep that night in our Patrol Base, but I did spot one of the cadre trying to low crawl up on us. But then he killed our company commander because he didn’t delegate someone else to go engage him, so we basically still got shyatted on ha.
