A few months ago, Kristi Burke released a video on her KZfaq channel where she explains the five Bible passages that caused her to "lose her faith." In this video, I want to give what I believe is a proper interpretation of these Bible passages to prove that these passages should not be used as an excuse to deconstruct your Christian faith when understood in their proper context.

And your life must suck so bad you were looking for a reason to believe. Also, I’m guessing you didn’t actually watch the video, but the young woman was a practicing Christian, who was evangelizing in her neighborhood until she got to scripture that she couldn’t get past. Even even now you still talk down to people who aren’t Christians. And you wonder why we think you people are braindead.

@@jen4um I would suggest that one doesn't fall for any of the religions until one has good evidence for a god. If one has good evidence that a god exists, then determine which god, as there are hundreds at a minimum. If one can determine that the god is an Abrahamic god, see which religion it supports, Then specifically ask this god which denomination has it correct, they can't all be correct. If you get this far and find a god supports a Christian denomination, I think gullibility is in your character. Well done you.

The real sadness is she hasn’t lost her faith because it’s not a question of whether or not God exists; it’s that she refuses to worship God because she does not approve of His ways. It is the same with the devil and demons who know that God exist. The demons, even obeyed Jesus, but in every case, they refused to worship him.

Why is it sad to not worship someone you don't agree with? There is no right or wrong about not wanting to worship someone, it's just wanting to do your own thing, there's no sadness in that! I think it is sad to condemn someone who doesn't fully understand the being they should be worshipping.

@@resinsminia It is rebellion against the authority of God. That is a better term to understand, not "refusing to worship". Though as part of submitting to God worship also comes as He is worthy, but the main issue is the authority of God. Which everybody has a problem with. Be it atheist or this lady. No, God must be in approval with them or they will not submit. Which in technical terms means they are God. To them. They are God and thus they feel it is their right to question Him. That is the purpose of those passages in Romans. To bring this sin out from the heart. To reveal it. As it says "What if" and " Does the clay get to question the potter" and so on - that is a dare, a provocation to the heart that holds this sin to bring it out. And it never fails. Because a person who has passed that point (yes, we are rebels by nature and thus we must all pass it) will have a different reaction. That is to be afraid. Which is good, you ought to have fear of God. It is wrong to just go around thinking "well God would never do this" or "God to me will always be..". That is wrong, He is God - treat the position seriously. And after you get fear of God, then you get wisdom, then you humble yourself, then you repent, then you get mercy, then you get peace. You see? People say the first step is to repent - no, the first step is recognition and acceptance of the authority of God.

i only listened to her argument on john 3:16 and after listening to her for less than 2 minutes (it's unbearable to listen to as it's full of bs), here are my thoughts.. she kept confusing herself, possibly to also confuse the viewers. i'm 100% sure she was never a christian, her reasoning, her arguments are not only far from the truth, but also twisted and full of malice. like i'm listening to the demon himself. she's totally clueless as to why jesus had to die, and that reason is "central to christian belief". totally unbelievable for an "ex-christian". maybe she got herself into a cult or something. but i'm sure she's lying that she was a christian. i would've believed her if she explained the verse in good faith and tell us why christians believe that way, and then criticize that belief. if she really was a christian why not tell us a christian pov? most probably because she knows NONE of it.. and what she did? she explained the verse in a very twisted, almost diabolical way. the look on her face and how her voice changed to a high pitch is very disturbing, like someone's been possessed or something. probably what happens to someone who goes too much to bIm/hummus rallies. one last thing, she kept blabbering on the last part about belief. how you could be saved by just having belief only. again, totally clueless. obviously driven by their Ieftist/w0ke/d3monic agenda. “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. It's not our place to judge God, but it's our place to study his word and to put in our best efforts to understand him better! Then, we will be better equipped to defend the faith! God bless you 🙏🏿

It's okay to doubt God. Moses, Gideon, Jonah, David, they all have doubts. Thomas & Peter had doubts. But instead of looking for answers at the right place (Holy Spirit, the Bible) Adam and Eve fell from the paradise, Judas Iscariot regretted and killed himself. After all, it's pride before the fall. So many deconstruction videos stem from this.

Thank you so much for covering this video, Allen! I'm a lifelong Christian, but I'm always studying apologetics and the hardest questions I can find about Christianity, to sharpen my faith and my ability to give an answer for it to those who ask. When I listened to this video a couple months back, I was challenged at first by a lot of her points, and immediately searched KZfaq for rebuttal videos from strong apologists. I couldn't find basically any! I did eventually find good answers, such as a great answer to whether God is a narcissist in the podcast "God and Narcissism" on Spotify. She talks about that in another video, I think. But I'm so glad an apologist with a lot of wisdom and a large following is finally addressing Kristi and effectively breaking down her arguments. Thank you for the work you do.

@charlesburgess7831
@charlesburgess7831 Ай бұрын
@@GerardShah do you truly want to know? At the risk of me sharing and you not receiving, I'll explain it to you. Jesus was fully man and fully God. So as a man He felt sadness and pain and hunger and thirst. He loved His life and His family and friends. When He knew His time was short. He wept and sweated blood... He was devastated to have to go through this criminal's punishment. But He did so willingly. The scriptures say He was punched and kicked and whipped. The skin of His back was like tattered rags. The whip was made of sharp bone, glass shards, metal balls, and leather. He was beaten all night to the point that He was unrecognizable. He was nailed to the cross, piercing a major vein in the middle of the hand and feet causing nerve damage and agonizing pain. His position on the cross was in a way that His lungs was locked in the inhale position. To exhale, He had to lift Himself up by the nails in His hands....rubbing His open back on a splinter ridden cross. His heart busted within His body. And before He died from this cardic episode, He said, "It is finished." Very odd. But He was saying, " Father, I took the punishment meant for Gerard's crimes against you...if he puts his trust in that, he is free to everlasting life." And He showed what that looked like by rising from the dead...proving also that He is God. You call it a weekend, but it more than than that. Father God can see your sin no more and you can live forever because Jesus, as you say, "sacrificed His weekend." To save your soul this is a reflection of the old sacrificial law... of innocent/perfect blood shed to cleanse people from sin. God's 2 natures, wrath and love was satisfied that day. Jesus said, "No greater love than man, lay His life down for His friends." If you are deconstructing Gerard or you never known Jesus. Put or return your trust in Jesus and turn away from all unrighteousness. Take care.

When does declaring there is no god ever bring you joy, hope, purpose, or compel you to love your neighbor and help the homeless? It doesn't. She cares about only one thing, and it isn't you, it's herself. She doesn't want you to feel the joy or love you can only receive from the Holy Spirit. She wants to suck all the love you have gained from Jesus out of you. She wants you to be miserable and think like her. She has one goal, and that is to inflate her own arrogance and sense of self importance. That's it.

He also asks us to test Him by being obedient and holding Him to His Word (which one has to know to find out our benefits). i only listened to her argument on john 3:16 and after listening to her for less than 2 minutes (it's unbearable to listen to as it's full of bs), here are my thoughts.. she kept confusing herself, possibly to also confuse the viewers. i'm 100% sure she was never a christian, her reasoning, her arguments are not only far from the truth, but also twisted and full of malice. like i'm listening to the demon himself. she's totally clueless as to why jesus had to die, and that reason is "central to christian belief". totally unbelievable for an "ex-christian". maybe she got herself into a cult or something. but i'm sure she's lying that she was a christian. i would've believed her if she explained the verse in good faith and tell us why christians believe that way, and then criticize that belief. if she really was a christian why not tell us a christian pov? most probably because she knows NONE of it.. and what she did? she explained the verse in a very twisted, almost diabolical way. the look on her face and how her voice changed to a high pitch is very disturbing, like someone's been possessed or something. probably what happens to someone who goes too much to bIm/hummus rallies. one last thing, she kept blabbering on the last part about belief. how you could be saved by just having belief only. again, totally clueless. obviously driven by their Ieftist/w0ke/d3monic agenda. “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me." (John 14:23-24) added: very disingenuous of her to claim to be an ex-christian to begin with. and this l3ftist/w0k3/d3monic uploader deleted all my comments in her video criticizing her so i'm posting this here instead! lmao

I come from a Christian upbringing within a devout family. However, last year, I found myself on the brink of losing my faith. Yet, in a powerful intervention, God made it clear that I was not meant to stray. This encounter with God was unlike any other I've had, and I hope everyone gets to experience it because it feels like being born again. Jesus, I cherish you. Thank you for rescuing my soul. Amen.

I would more likely lean on the side of her not lacking the proper theology but more of her not liking the way God does things, it's the pride before the fall. It's like people that claim there is no evidence for God. No there is evidence, just not the one they require - again needing God to do something their way, the way only they will accept. I think she believed in a God that she wanted until she read things that she didn't approve of - thinking she'd be a better standard or god. Like Lucifer essentially.

It's going to be, how can I enlighten my understanding about what was happening in this scripture! She was already looking to leave the faith and this just allowed her in her mind to justify that! If all it takes is difficulty understanding 5 scriptures to make you leave the love of God,I question whether you ever truly knew him to begin with!

Hopefully your video will show up around her video, so those same people who would check her video, will check yours too. It's a very self centered approach with which she read into the scriptures, seemingly basing her thoughts/ perspectives/perceptions as morally higher and more sensible than God's. Of all the passages to cause someone to lose their faith, John 3:16 is the most surprising. @thetruedaoster8863 2 ай бұрын
@@ryanrevland4333 Sin is so terrible and so wicked in the eyes of our God, who is gracious and compassionate towards all that he made and at the same time righteous and just, that it took sending his Son Jesus (God in the flesh, so really the giving of God HIMSELF) to make a full atonement of the sin of the whole world; would you rather you took the cross yourself? Or the prospect of facing Him on Judgment Day? As for the child sacrifice thing, Allen covered that when talking about the driving out of nations in the land to be given to the Israelites at that time; those nations were notably wicked for many things including child sacrifice, hence driven out by God. God still hates child sacrifice, and he hates sin altogether. How much more wonderful the love of our God demonstrated through the cross! Jesus died AND is alive!!!
@ryanrevland4333
@ryanrevland4333 2 ай бұрын
@thetruedaoster8863 The problem is that human sacrifice doesn't atone for sins. This is a barbaric ritual and Christians need to realize how immoral this practice is. There is no original sin that requires a blood sacrifice. John 3:16 says God loved us so much he murdered his own son. Normal people are appalled by this. Killing your children is not an act of love. “Would you rather take the cross yourself?” If you're speaking metaphorically then…yes. If I'm guilty of a crime then it's immoral to punish someone else for it. Especially if it's my only son!
@thetruedaoster8863
@thetruedaoster8863 2 ай бұрын
@@ryanrevland4333 Human sacrifice does not atone for sins, that is true. But God sacrificed himself (in the person of Jesus, who is God in the flesh). "There is no original sin that requires a blood sacrifice", that is not entirely true. In the Garden of Eden, in Chapter 3 of Genesis, we are told that sin entered into the world, which God had made (and the world was very good before Chapter 3). God made a good world, but mankind has messed it up by turning away from God. That is sin. Normal people are appalled by sin, and rightly so. God didn't exactly kill his Son by his own hand alone; it was the wickedness of man's hearts (as a result of our sin) that killed him. Jesus warned them of that through the Parable of the Vineyard Tenants; Jesus waned them that they would reject him and ultimately kill - and sure enough they did. And yet God worked through that all to bring about our redemption. It does not make crucifixion or child sacrifice any less horrific; however the sin we collective committed against our holy God (who gave us life) means that there is no way humanity can atone for our sin. Also, God's ways are far higher than ours; we cannot equate our human 'morality' to the same level as God's morality. Finally, I didn't entirely mean metaphorically about taking the punishment yourself (though understandably I could've meant that too). God is still patient with us, wanting ALL to repent and turn to him for forgiveness. We owed a debt that we cannot pay (even for our own sin, or 'crime'); God paid the debt that he did NOT owe - and He did it all in Himself. We may not know everything about God, or why He chose to do things the way He did, but in Christ Jesus we know enough about Him that we can trust Him to reign (He at least does it better than we ever could). I won't pretend I answered your objections in the way you'd want to hear or such that it satisfies you, but I hope and pray that you would see that our God loves us amazingly, even we are at our most unloveable. . . .He demonstrated that through Jesus, who lives AND reigns!
@ryanrevland4333
@ryanrevland4333 2 ай бұрын
@thetruedaoster8863 I appreciate your thoughtful response. These conversations are important not just for us but others reading this exchange and forming their own opinions. I believe Christianity has layers of immoral premises. The first one is the concept of original sin that you mentioned. Born guilty and deserving of punishment. It's like standing before a judge and being sentenced to death for a crime that your ancestor committed. Even worse, there's no evidence this “crime” ever occurred and has all the hallmarks of mythology. The second is the proposition of vicarious redemption. After the judge sentences you to death he brings out his innocent child and shoots him in the head. Then He turns to you and says, “That's how much I love you. You're free to go.” Lastly is the idea that if you don't believe premise one and two, then you will be tortured for eternity. For atheists, this is an empty threat because we find the whole system absurd. The real damage occurs to the believer who views society through this lens. When you believe that billions of Jews, Muslims, and Hindus are deserving of eternal torture, that will have a negative effect on your mental health.
