The hand for the "Into the woods" tank came together after a bunch of trial and error sessions. This video goes over the basics. With a little creativity you can make all kinds of cool custome ornaments for your aquariums or other projects.

I saw the face at the Chicago aquatic experience, it was really amazing! All the detail that you had in the face was really great! Thank you for sharing how you went about making it. Looks like the apple does not fall far from the tree when it comes to creating things!

How do you smooth the resin and what do you use? I have a betta fish who's fins I don't want to damage.

It takes the form of whatever you mold it to. As long as that is smooth it will be smooth. I have links in the description for where I bought mine and alternatives.

I know this comment is almost a year old but I wanted you to know if there are any rough edges you'd like to sand down and smooth that can easily be done with sand paper or a dremel tool. I've used fingernail files on smaller pieces as well. :)

You will have minimal lumps and bubbles, if you have your water in first, and add the powder to the water.

Hello sweetie. I just received a fluval 6 gallon edge for my birthday. And I was thinking of making a shrimp tank. I’m thinking pumpkin shrimp. And ideas for plants??? I’ll be using organic dirt with top fin gravel. Good luck on the competition..

+Glenn Douglas I would swap that for fluval statum or one of the soil basses substrates. The dirt tank seems unstable in a small aquarium. (to me at least.)

So i brought a foam hide from petco and want to make it water proof can i paint the resin on a few coats like how you did? you think it would chip away in the water?

You can put a thick coat of acrylic paint. I don’t know about poring resin on it. It does get pretty hot. Bot I’ve found foam hard to deal with. It’s to floaty. The acrylic will eventually peel of too. It aquarium safe but seems to break down over time.

Question about the tank you made for your sister a few months back (the title is Mr. Aqua Nano Scape)... what is the name of the store you showed? They had a wide range of rimless tanks and I have been unable to find any fish stores near me that have a selection of rimless tanks. Thank you!!

if you create a hand sculpture and the fingers are more crooked meaning folded how do you get the resin / plaster into the tip end of the fingers because surely there would be an air gap in there, if you follow what i mean?

+beelzebub78 yes you have to slosh it around somewhat. We got really lucky so far with only minor problems with that.

I found a place that make coral ones. The active ingredients seemed the same. In a perfect world you want to find something registering as food safe. But I had a hard time finding anything. All I can say is I painted it with acrylic paint (not the bottom) and kept it in the tank for a year.

Nope it’s just plastic after it’s cured so it can be added right away.

Xx_Ellie_xX 21 yes otherwise I wouldn’t do it. Then make a video about it. When I did some research I found that what I use is nearly the same thing they use to cast corals. Once it cures it’s just hard plastic.

Sort of. It has my face photo shopped on it. I work for a move theatre company and they used to make fake movie posters every year that was one of them. So it’s just something funny not a political statement.
