I got this violin about 8 months ago. I upgraded the chin rest and shoulder rest before I ever even played it. Then over time I put an ebony tailpiece, single titanium fine tuner, titanium tailgut, and dominant stings on it. just those few simple upgrades made it sound SOOOO much warmer. I recently got a 3 star pernambuco bow, and was shocked the difference a bow can make.

This violin sounds awesome for fantasy/fairytail songs, it has a beautiful dreamy sound, not to deep nor to high, just in the middle.

Hello Allison. You are so right buy cheap buy twice. I purchased mine on Amazon and I had to take it to the music store they had to replace the strings to the dominant ones. And my pegs never kept the strings tight had to get some tightener glue for them. And I spent right around $100 more just so that I would be able to use it. But I'm able to enjoy it thank you for your channel enjoy it so much Ralph

Alison, in one of your videos you said that you only recommend Fidlerman violins. I am older and thinking about trying the violin. I have thought about renting one at first to see if I can learn to play at all. I am going to the music store this weekend to have them check out my great grandfather's Carlo Bergonzi (it is most likely a knock off) to see if it worth restoring. If I can rent one and I can make headway, I will become a patreon of yours. If my great grandfather's violin is beyond repair, I will look at a new one. Your videos have convinced me to try. Thank you.

I got a $99 violin as a gift about 12 years ago. It's awful. Trying to learn with it was so frustrating that I gave up. Now I'm looking for an affordable violin to learn with that isn't miserable. I want a violin that I won't have to upgrade for a few years.

Love your videos. So so helpful in determining where to put my money! As a true beginner, I am learning so much and plan to get you course once I determine which violin is for me.

Another great video! You are correct about those cheap violins. I needed to set up the bridge, and then it took me over an hour to get it in tune. Turning those pegs in a cheap violin is a real pain. I would think the strings would have to be tweaked on any violin after shipment.

I think that I am going to get one of these. Not a bad price and if you recommend them is what counts cause I know you can be picky.

If you were choosing between the Rockstar with the carbon fiber bow upgrade vs the Legend with the wooden bow, which would you recommend?

I think for this level of violin, bow will not make too much of a difference if Im being honest. I not personally keen on carbon fibre bows as I dont think they are flexible enough for bowing techniques - BUT... that is just my personal opinion on them. I would choose a violin based on the sound of that violin that you like - not be swayed by the bow as it will make an insignificant difference to the sound/tone etc.

Hi Alison, I currently have a Stentor II violin and all 3 of your books. I have been learning for about two years and for the first year was making good progress but I have to admit that with working in the NHS throughout this pandemic, I haven’t spent as much time in the past year practicing as much as I should. I have a small frame and short arms/small hands and have recently looked at online measurements which place me as being of a size for a 3/4 violin. Would you advise persevering with my full size or should I downsize? If so, do you have any recommendations, thanks 😊

I wouldn’t personally advise sizing down to 3/4 as that would then be too small all over. I would stick to what you have as it’s going to be closer to your frame, but....if you can source/find a 7/8 violin, then that’s probably going to be more for you. I don’t know of any myself, so it would be a case of contacting some online stores and asking.

I bought a $60 violin after I first started working when I was 17, a bit before covid hit and it was horrible, I spent the first half of covid wanting to play violin but couldn't because it was so crappy, I got a better one a few months ago and I'm loving
