My Review of the Corvette C6

In 2005, Chevrolet INTRODUCED the C6 Corvette. It could be bought as either a coupe or a convertible. Even though the C5 Corvette is a great sports car, the C6 took things to the next level by adding push-button start, satellite navigation, electric door releases, and much cooler interiors than the previous generation of Corvettes.
If there was one thing that purists didn't like about the new Corvette, it was the exposed headlights, which broke a 40-year-old rule. But the better aerodynamics and performance soon calmed everyone down. The C6 was a change from the C5, which was a revolution. The LS2 engine made 400 horsepower and could be paired with either a manual or an automatic transmission. The car also got better looks and a better suspension. 37,372 cars were sold by Chevy.
Have you been giving any thought to getting yourself a C6 Corvette? You will find a lot of useful information in this video that will assist you in making the best choice possible. Although there is certainly much more information that we could talk about in regards to purchasing a new vehicle, the aforementioned points should cover the fundamental ideas that you should to be familiar with in regards to purchasing a C6 Corvette.

I worked at Hertz for nearly 23years, and remember when we had both the C6 and C7 special editions on the lot. What head turners they were. Three of my coworkers, all of the brothers, each owned a Corvette, one had a C4, another had a C6 but traded it for a C7, and the third had a C6 until he died, and his family sold it. The C7 ZR1 is my favorite currently, but I love the C3 gen.

@@ThisOldCarChannel yep they did. Back in 2015, two guys rented a Corvette ZO6 Performance and raced it near downtown Atlanta, lost control and crashed it into a wall. Both guys died. We also had the Shelby GT-H and the Camaro Z28 Special Edition. It was hell dealing with paperwork when it came to those high performance cars.

I think the C6 is a better looking car then the C7 or C8. I'm not just saying that because I own a C6 (2006 Z51). The rear ends of the latter ones look too cluttered. IMHO and $.02 worth.

Totally agree. And I don’t own either of them. But whenever I start thinking “maybe I should get a Corvette” it’s always the C6 and it’s clean uncluttered lines that pops into my mind.

I just purchased a new 2024 Chevy Silverado Z-71 5 months ago. My twin brother was asking me how it's been. I told him that it sits in the garage because I like the way the Vette drives much better! I love my vette. In my view, it has a sweet spot. Not the primitive technology of a C5 but also not the high tech of a C7. It's just right!

As a kid I always loved the 67 427 C2 Coupe, then as a teenager it was the early, and late model C3s. But when the C4 was introduced in 84 I fell in love with the new look, but I never could afford one. Now years later, I finally bought my first Corvette, and it's a 2013 C6, 6 speed manual coupe. Someday I'd love to get C7 coupe as well, only time will tell, but I'll need a bigger garage first!!! lol

Fell in love with C6 Vettes in 06. Saved my pennies, and good time of life (kids almost finished school), and started searching. Loved Atomic Orange Z06, and searched for years for the "one ". Canadian dollar was awesome in 11 and 12 and thought I'd find one in US for sure. Nope. Gave up looking in late 12 , but luckily my wife didn't. She found an 09 Z in Ontario, which I could hardly believe in fall of 13, with 16000 km. I called, made a rough deal, jumped on a plane, had to have it, and drove it home to BC. Sits on a hoist over our Boss, and comes out for air in the summer. Truly a gem, and so happy I bought it. Good wife, happy husband, or something like that, LoL

@@ThisOldCarChannel Quite a different driving experience hey Boca! We Mountain sled, UTV, dirt bike, ADV, and burn diesel at our place. But when I drive my Vette, the feel is unlike anything else we drive. It's very unique in throttle response, braking, seating and amazingly comfortable. The windshield look over the long hood and rising fenders, so low to road, stretched out in your seat, is always special, like nothing else we run. The effortless cruising down the highway with very little steering input, with such a tight chassis under you, is excitement surrounding you. We have a Boss, that is also wonderful, but Corvette's are in a different league, I think. Welcome to the club Boca, and have a smile for me next outing. I'm looking at snow outside, and Jealous, lol. Cheers from Canada :⁠-⁠)

Thanks for a wonderful C6 video. I started out in 1972 with a 1970 LT-1. Traded it in in 1974 for a 1973 Corvette. Just over 2 1/2 decades (2002) later I bought a 1987 Z51 Corvette, which after a year of use I had a cracked block between pistons 6 & 8 so I bought a new block and installed all new internal but retained the L98 top end. Which was enlarged, port matched and honed on the plenum, intake runner's etc. Switched from 19 lb injectors to 26 lb injectors, Flat Top Racing Pistons, Comp Cam etc etc I was now putting out nearly 434 hp. T-boned some years later (2019) I took my insurance money and bought a 1995 LT1 Yellow Corvette. After a year+ of ownership I traded it in for a 2000 Z51 C5, Light Pewter, which I have had now for over 2 years. I am considering a C6 but taking my time in my search until I find just which one I would invest my Social Security and retirement money on.

I've got an Auto FBO 2010. Makes about 500 crank and gets 30+ mpg highway. Looks great too and turns heads. I don't thinkntheres a better OVERALL sports car for the price. I paid 17.5k for it. Can't beat that

I started out with a 1990 C4. Eventually traded that for a 2005 C6. My latest addition is a 2008 C6 4lt. All sweet rides in their own way. Anyone who thinks there's no difference between the '05 and '08 C6, you'd better think again! I couldn't believe how much more fun the '08 is to drive compared to the '05, and that car is no slouch either. The C4 and C6 will always be my favorite Vettes. Great video!!!

I have a 2008 Z51 and was wondering why you said 2008. Is the 08 different/better than other C6 years. One person that owned multiple years of C6 Vettes said the 08's were the fastest for some reason like factory tune or perhaps other reasons???

Quality vid and great viewing. I found a super low mileage 1-owner 2013 427 Convertible at a Chev dealership just outside Cleveland, last November. Hadn't owned a Corvette in ages since I sold the collection that my Dad and I had accrued over decades, dating back to 1970. They were all wonderful cars in their own right but this 427 Convertible is an engineering masterpiece. Long live the Corvette!

When introduced in 84 it was far & away the most advanced Corvette to date with many innovative enhancements!!! I know that now it's old & outdated but I still like it!!!! Great work again, guys. In '05 or so, i'm driving back from seeing family, taking a road Hwy 92 from the CA coast. Wee bit of a grade and my Lumina with a V6 and passengers is doing ok but 'working'. A Vette pulls up and passes us. As it goes by, i see it's a Z06. It wasn't even breaking a sweat ! Sounded like it could have been in high gear.

My first 'Vette was a '61. Loved the car but marriage seems to change things over night. Fast forward 44 years. Wife finally got tired of hearing me saying I want a Corvette, so she said just go get what you want (with some restriction of course). Had a new Red '13 C6 in the driveway by dark. She is still sitting in the garage calling me to take her ('Vette, not wife) for a drive all the the time. If I could, I would like to be buried in it instead of a casket or urn.

C6 are awesome. Folks forget (or don't know) how unstable C3 were at 100mph or better, later C4 was the start of real performance. C5 and 6 followed. Still being carried further today.

Consider that you can get a C6 for under $30,000 with reasonable miles. Clean lines, light weight, tossable, and very quick.

hey that was me in the first seen looking at a piston just before the supercharger install. Parts of that rocket commercial made for 2012 was made in wixom performance build center where the z07,ls9 and the LS3 dry sump engines were hand built. I drive a 2011 inferno orange LS3 manual dry sump coupe with my own build tag on it.

My favorite is the C4 Corvette which I owned, I currently own a C6 Z06 in magnetic red , my favorite is also the C7 in black or orange Z06 which will be my next purchase.

People were upset about the exposed headlights vs flip ups, but Federal Law made them illegal so Corvette had to adapt. I'm sure they would have kept flip ups if allowed. Also have a friend who managed to get a C6 ZR1, which is a nice ride.

We own a 1983 Mazda RX-7 that got hit in 2021. Unfortunately, one of the pop up lights got bent badly and it was nearly impossible to find a replacement. The shop somehow messed up the wiring and the lights no longer go down. For inspection purposes they now have to stay open all the time. So, I kinda wish the car never had them.

I have a 2008 Z-51. I got it for right around 10K, knock in the motor and was a flood car. New GM crate 525HP motor and new wiring harness for a few areas. I am into it for about 23K. Tell me how you can build a car like the way you want for cheaper. I am about done with it, but cannot drive it in the winter here. We will see how good my build does next spring.

Great video! I love all of the Corvettes. I have a C5 Z06 and love it! I think the fixed roof notchback design is the raciest looking and I’m one of those baby boomers that can’t get over the exposed headlights on the C6 and later models. I would get used to a ZR1 in the C6 or the C7 though! Lol. The acceleration would probably give me a headache😅

I’ve had 4 C6(05 base convertible, 08 Z06, 10 GS auto convertible & currently a ‘12 GS 6 spd convertible) all have been great except the ‘05, I think cuz it was the first year but otherwise they’ve been great.

2009 through 2013 are the best engines General Motors made for Corvettes, THE BEST stock. That is why they are pretty much still the exact same price TODAY from when they came out,still $49 to $60,000+, especially the Grand Sport.

C6 2008 ls3, which one to choose, manual or automatic? How fast is an automatic in acceleration and how reliable is it? As I understand it, it’s difficult to drive sideways in an automatic compared to a manual

I miss those headlights. Prohibited for safety reasons as well as the Mercedes badges on the bonnet. Cars today are less and less different from each other, they are like copies of the same design, especially SUVs.

I'd love to have a C6 Corvette. But it's definitely not my favorite. I think the C3 is the best looking. Especially the early ones with chrome bumpers.

I want my click back. given the age of the car, and the fact that this video was posted in January of 2023, I was expecting a review to be a critical evaluation of the car in light of all we have learned about the platform since it has been introduced . Instead it is just a boring listing of features that anybody could look up on such an old platform, without any comment on how well the new features worked out over time. for instance , I would have appreciated some insight as to why some say that although the C6 is faster than the C5, the handling is touchy, making it harder to drive faster. Some also fault the aded complexity of the C6 electronics over the C5, saying it makes the cars much more difficult to maintain some C6's had a defective valve train . How these issues effected the C6 seems better information inlight of what we know about the C6 in 2023 than a listing of simple features list without any context. I kind of got a clue that this effort would not meet my expectations when a commercial for magna flow mufflers featuring Mario Andretti was inserted where he was praising the car, but was cut before he pitched improving the sound with a muffler change.
