We are back for part 2 of Nikki’s Reeds birth story along with her gorgeous midwife Abby Vidikan! In this half we discuss ‘The Vagina Whisperer’ Johanna Storey’s go-to methods of keeping your vagina tear free! How baby’s can take some time to come “online.” Abby discusses what the one minute earth side transition is (and how that looks different in a home birth!) and Nikki walks us through her final hour of power bringing her baby home. What a delightful, funny, informative and moving wrap up to this two part episode celebrating incredible, thoughtful care providers and the beauty and strength of birth.

This series with Nikki has been super encouraging. My first baby had to be a c-section because she was breech. I am 35 weeks with my second baby, and switching to a new doctor next week who does do vaginal births after c-sections. My current doctor will not give me the option to have a VBAC. When I pressed her on it, she tried to scare me into accepting another c-section by saying my uterus will rupture and me and my baby could die. After researching more, I found that is a very rare occurrence and unlikely to happen. There is a very high probability of successful VBAC for women in my particular situation. Friends and family don’t understand why I want to have this experience so badly, and think that I’m being ridiculous by making such a big deal about it. Hearing this story has been inspiring, and reassuring that I am fighting for something worthwhile. I truly hope that my VBAC is successful, and I get to welcome my baby boy into the world in a way as beautiful as this❤️

This story is so very similar to my birth stories. I had an emergency c-section with my first after a failed inducement days prior. If only I had known what I know now! I would have done things so differently. Alas, what's done is done. With my second, they were also pushing me into having another c-section. I had such a hard time finding a doctor who would cooperate with my wishes. This child ended up being breech and I was "forced", if you will, into another c-section. I truly feel like my babies were not quite ready to come out of the oven and these scheduled births caused these issues/c-sections. Now, years later, I have learned SOOO very much. I encourage anyone giving birth to ADVOCATE for themselves. Educate themselves (which, I did read a LOT... but unfortunately all I knew was your typical hospital birth so I just didn't even really know of this whole other birthing world...). We need to continue sharing stories like this wonderful podcast does, share knowledge. I also encourage anyone birthing to not allow the doctor to induce them right at the due date... Pregnancy doesn't have an exact "timer". Many women go 2-3 weeks past just fine. Had I not been induced right at my first due date (which failed after 5am-11pm at the hospital), I feel the c-section would not have had to happen (I went into labor 2 days later, my daughter wasn't positioned right and wouldn't come out causing the c-section), had I had a better birthing team maybe I could've done things to shift her rather than just laying on my back... THEN, with my second I wouldn't have had a c-section prior, wouldn't have been pushed to that a second time, maybe I could've worked my second around from being breech, on and on... I truly think things would've went soo differently!! So advocate, educate, do what you feel is best for you and your body, what you feel is best for your baby, and lastly do not rush things! Our bodies are meant to do this, trust the labor will happen when it's meant to!!!! ❤❤❤ PS - Thank all of you wonderful ladies for being vulnerable and sharing these birth stories via the podcast. ✨️❤️✨️

Out of curiosity, now that you guys have a slightly different perspective on things, would you have vaginal breech births if you were to do it again?

@@gabiklw I think that I would try if they didn’t see that the cord was wrapped around her neck or any other serious issues. The worst part was feeling a lack of intimacy with my baby. When she was born, they held her above the curtain so I could see her for like 2 seconds, and then took her away. It was about 15 minutes before they brought her to me. They lay the baby on your chest but because you’re having surgery, you aren’t able to really hold your baby properly until they get you into a recovery room. It really is the worst feeling to be so close and connected to your baby for 9 months, and then suddenly be separated from them for what seems like a really long time. With my second baby I want to be able to immediately hold him close to me as soon as he is born, and have that bonding experience with him in the first moments of his life. I wish I could have had that with my daughter

I love love love this whole experience and how empowered those women helped Nikki feel….but I also have to wonder, did Ian feel left out?? It doesn’t sound like he had much involvement?
