Before lawn striping...I am 100% about turf health. I feel that using the roller EVERY time I mow is not productive as far as turf health goes...that is the only reason why.

@@GCITurf Pete, I'd love to pick your brain on this, but this comment opens up my eyes. I purchased the Toro lawn striper kit four years ago. For the past three years, my front lawn has basically gone from being immaculate to a fungus nightmare in the summer. I'm the only lawn on my entire street that has blown up like this. I've kept the striper attached. I wonder if maybe the constant striping (and not switching the patterns) along with watering and keeping the grass high has been the cause of this. I may need to rethink my strategy completely and perhaps only strip once in awhile, maybe once every 3-4 cuts, or maybe just in the fall. The stripes look amazing, but the fungue ruined my front lawn that had been sodded in 2012. I water heavy and not everyday or at night, keep it at 3-3.5". I've put down fungicides, grub killer. This may indeed be the cause. I appreciate the thoughts here, but you're saying using the striper if there are issues in the lawn will only make it worse.

Really appreciate the reply, Pete. Watching so many videos, I think I’ve fallen in love with seeing the stripes (and add to that I’m a huge baseball fan and just love seeing that MLB stripe type of pattern in the lawn). The more I look into it, I’m thinking this is the reason my yard has gone radioactive the last three summers. I’m going to ease back on the roller. I still don’t understand how the MLB grounds crews can do it. We went out to Seattle and did the tour at Safeco, and the guide said they keep the same stripe pattern until the All Star Break and then switch it for the remainder of the year. That grass is much shorter. I don’t know. Thanks again. You’re doing great work. By the way, this is one of my fav videos because of your short talk about being a dad and what that entails.
