Today I bench test my new car stereo system! I will be using optical signal out of an iPad mini 6 into an Audio Control DSP with an active front stage. The DSP will output analog signal into my McIntosh MC4000M Amplifier. The McIntosh will power a set of Hybrid Audio Legatia speakers.

As a former professional car audio designer/installer/engineer I’d suggest you use more up to date equipment from top tier manufacturers like Kenwood, Kicker, and Hifonics. None of my customers have even heard of ancient iMacIntosch

EDIT I was totally wrong but im gonna leave the receipts Daddy Doug TOSLINK only supports 2 channel CD quality or 5.1 compressed Dolby Digital UNLESS that dongle is running a different standard than SPDIF over the optical cable such as ADAT (not likely). That's probably why you're not having issues with bitrate switching, because it's not switching, just running 44.1/16bit all the time.

I run my Iphone using the same dongle to my Helix DSP 3, You will get 24/96HZ. when I tried to play anything above that it became a crackly mess as my DSP can only support up to 24/96HZ for optical input. additionally, that is why I switched from Amazon Music to Apple Music as Amazon won't always downgrade the track for what my DSP can play but instead always would play that highest quality setting.

@@punksweeper4678 it's cool man just for others, I got all confused when I was first understanding what optical can actual do with his res music/ what an Iphone can actual output from USB. I got a topping d10 to comfirm what my phone was actual out putting based on software/music. Iphone puts out PCM or DSD depending on settings/software.

5 years ago before there was ipad to optical adapters, i had to gut an apple tv and convert it to 12v to get an optical source. I also had to have a 4G modem for internet connectivity. Your setup is arguably easier and better.

Nice! Im using a Android headunit that feeds my Helix Ultra dsp an optical output for daily listening. Then I have a Fiio DAP connected to the DSP using coaxial connection as my critical listening source. I can control the Fiio DAP from my Android radio / steering wheel controls by downloading the Fiio Link app onto my android radio. Next is to implement auto source switching. So, if I am listening to music on the Fiio but a phonecall or nav prompt comes in,, the dsp would switch over to the headunit source to play the phonecall etc.and then back to my Fiio when done.

Problem is that your phone provider will charge you more for HD anything. Cd quality and DVD quality is the only audio/video that stays within their "Unlimited Data" plans. Just keep that in mind.

I was all excited when I bought my 75" 4K tv. Trying to find programming better than 720p is a bitch. Also class A is outdated. Class D amps switch at 1 MEGA hertz. no way you can hear the difference. I bet it is going to sound good af though.

I get the test with the streaming audio but I'd check with an actual CD or CD ripped to the computer 16/44.1 to get standard results in case of that bit rate variable on those streaming tracks. Subtlety promoting CD's as they are very easy to find and are dirt cheap for 'forever' music to your collection physical items that you can pass around at your next party

Welcome to the streaming party I've been using quobuz for a while I like it been using it through usb audio player pro to bypass my android phones dac I use a hiby usb dongle dac to stream hi res bit perfect music through headphones or currently through my Kenwood deck though that's less than perfect cause I believe it then passes through the Kenwoods factory internal dac but it sounds good and I'll be doing something similar as you to stream bit perfect hi res music

We have been using sdpif and usb DAC's from tablets forever in SQ.... You should really try a good USB DAC as its superior to 24/96 limitation of the spdif..MQA etc will work with a proper DAC.. Audio Control DSP's are limited and is a lower qualtiy DSP compared to your amplifier... highly suggest Helix Ultra or MK3... or ARC Audio PS8 Pro if you want to SQ with the big boys.... . Every DSP I know of defaults FULL volume FYI.. you can adjust that though to default lower volume upon power on.. and checkout Tidal for high resolution streaming.. Also...I am pretty sure your amp is A/B not pure class A. Most Class A amps don't make very much power at all.

Dude the Fuckn White Powah Rider is the tits. I'd use the McCinslosh Amp run 4 channels to the front four speakers and use the other two for those nasty ass 8 inch deep throated mids mounted in the rear deck. The acoustics in those cars are so rear biased you don't need tweakers in the back cuze you won't barely hear them. ROCK ON
