Here are the precise details of the method I used to start the successful seedlings...It's Jordan's method so I'm sending you to his channel for the details since I can't do it justice on the details! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rM-KfNOlprLKiKs.html

Worm farm, on our coast I learned that "red wigglers" or tiger worms are almost everywhere. I started the worms in the winter, didn't realize the worms were "native" to the West Coast until I decided to go looking. 2 bins, one with holes in bottom and lid to let air and castings in and drop. I used mostly paper, leaves, and some soil (grit for worms) then added coir, some shredded scraps. I still go out looking for worms. My bins are kept indoors to ensure consistent temps. The bins don't stink. Anything from allium or citrus families should not go into the bins. The acids burn.

Great video. I'll go check out Jordan too, I wasn't aware of him. Biggest difference between the two (his mix and your first mix) are nutrients and microbiology. The first mix has both no nutrient and no life in it. Mushroom compost has *some* nutrient, but mushroom compost is really ideally suited to start trees and bushes, and not green leafy plants. Mushroom compost is going to be fungally dominated and bacterially weak. On the other end of the spectrum of composts would be worm compost which is the heaviest bacterial load of any compost. The amount of bacteria in a worms guts is just mindblowing. Green leafy plants want bacterial dominated soils, so worm castings are about as good as possible for starting green leafy plants. I'll go check out his channel. And great job adjusting to what you were seeing! Your second round of plants look amazing! The difference is definitely due to the worm castings. Using worm castings is like cheating (in a very good way!)

This makes total sense to me! Worm castings is definitely the way to go for me for seed starting going forward.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the salt from the coir or if there was persistent broadleaf pesticides in the compost. Next year you could do a bioassays test.

I didnt think about pesticides, that would suck because that was packaged mushroom compost at the garden centre. Im just not going to use that compost at all anymore

Weird, I've never had issues with seed starting. I use a heat mat and I use potting soil mix. So, no nutrients. I'm think good germination seeds may be the reason. I have led lights but I seldomly use them, I try to acclimate the recently sprouted seed asap. I sometimes put them in larger containers outside (if I'm fighting slugs), but mostly plant as soon as possible. I use my rabbits poop, worm compost tea and castings in my planters.

Interesting video Kristina! I watch "The Gardening Channel with James Prigoni" and "Mi Gardner Channel." I was wondering who would get to 1 million subscribers first but Luke, from Mi Gardner got their first. I find Luke thoroughly explains a lot more but I like how James gets right into the dirt more. Their is something oddly therapeutic about it. If the cases drop by next summer, I might take those Horticulture courses I was planning to take before the pandemic. My brother works in a grocery store but I was going to ask him about asking someone working in The Garden Department because you need so many hours outside the classroom but I had to tell him to forget it for now. It is to gain work experience and see if I would like it. My dad would not appreciate me digging up the yard but some plant beds by the shed have been left by the previous owners.

@@kristina_lynn He is also, really tall lol. I am okay, with being short since I found out statistically, shorter people live longer. I rather be a few inches taller maybe 5ft 6 instead of 5ft 4 but ehh what can you do. I seen that leg lengthening surgery now way am I going through that. I already had to get surgery when I was 10 so, I can continue to walk and I had to learn to walk again. Twice is enough thank you.

Create that worm farm for sure. You will never look back once you do. The worm casts help protect the seedlings from disease, pest attack etc. Being PH neutral the worm casting is the way to go for sure on seedlings as you will never burn the roots

Well I really enjoyed your videos it's nice to see passion inside somebody's heart about something so intriguing as the environment, and of course yours is nature at heart I guess changing the environment makes it safe for nature and that's your ultimate goal. you're so very beautiful surprising that you're not married and maybe having kids . how do you feel about kids.? And teaching your kids about nature as a heritage to your work that you've done to let you know I've raised five children they're all successful except my one son that passed away Devin. He was 22 he was manager at a Hardee's and going to school for restaurant management ... course lost my (wife to be) who's my ex-wife I waited 20 years for her to get clean off drugs and we were getting remarried and she passed away but the good thing is I never gave up on her and doing that I was always around her which we had an incredible relationship after getting off drugs and becoming a drug counselor God took her home.sorry life is sometimes so painful but also so rewarding it's all how you look at it that's were God comes in for me. But maybe that's why I'm so interested in you what drives you what is your power source energy source to do what you do?and being so close to nature what are your thoughts about God? Do you see God in everything or do you not believe in God and u believe in mother nature is the source of all life? Of course I'm a Christian I personally am terrified of the forest after seeing the 411 series online videos and terrifying events in the forest I see that you have complete peace in the forest have you ever run across anything very odd situations or animals or noises? Anyway you're very interesting person I will continue to watch your videos now that I found u you're just so intriguing in your passion of course my passion is people loving them and teaching them about God and of course loving each other and building a better community but again I find you so intriguing your passion is so odd but true. I love dogs cats so forth but wild animals I just think most they're evil.. pigs are the worst they will eat you even after you feed them they have no sense of loyalty only to their diet to eat anything and anybody? I found that so cold in calculating in the Bible Jesus used the swine to send the demons out of a possessed man and he put the demons into the swine and have them run off a cliff so it seems even God and his son has a problem with swine. Are there any animals that you're truly scared of? But again I find you so very intriguing because of your ability to notice that tiny things I do the same thing..that makes me good at my job and and understanding life it seems like the more sensitive the more you pay attention in great detail but you're much more successful in your accomplishments but even more how you look at things and then one day that will make you very very successful. Everybody's always rushing through life when if they would slow down a little bit they could accomplish so much more in greater detail. But with your confidence maybe it's tough for you to find the right guy that should equal you may have to understand that you may pull the weight in a relationship because if you're incredible drive and find somebody just loves you for who you are and will support whatever you do and then the long run your drive will help everybody around you including your children if you decide to have an I see that in your videos fear is out the window when it comes to your drive the things that you're around other things that you do are so dangerous you have no clue when I watch that it's a little bit spooky that you could even die doing some of the things that you do being around some of the animals you're around but again your drive to love nature over rides all that because your drive to help the environment overrides all that.. I'm sure there's there's people that love you and don't want to see you get hurt doing all this crazy stuff you're doing in the environment. It may be fun to you but it's terrifying for some people to do what you do that's why I find you so interesting. Maybe one day if I come to California I'll go on on the environmental helping camping event and maybe I can tell you about God and why I have no fear of doing what you do once I apply him to the situation it all works out okay. And that during those odd events probably when you're scared I'm at tremendous peace because I know it's an opportunity for God to show but we really is by taking a very spooky situation and changes it until very peaceful event which gives me confidence to do anything and be at peace with everybody and every animal. As I let you go I'll tell you why I'm up in Atlanta right now it's probably 3:41 in the morning my mother passed away I couldn't sleep so as I'm taking care of her home and her four little animals these lovely dogs they're a poodle Chihuahua mix there's four of them spooky ladybug gizzy and Paco they're my family now and they've been amazing they were my mother's animals dogs and it was her wish that I take care of him because she felt like I would do the best job at a my brother and sister and me, because they miss her and they're up and she just passed away a few months ago and they're still I can tell they miss her so I know some animals have a big heart unlike pigs so I find what you do interesting because of this odd thing that I fell into my mother passing away and she was my best friend. So I find myself reading stuff about animals the environment and how people think about it and you're helping me be more sensitive to that area so keep up the good work anytime your in Atlanta please stop by in a lot of ways you've helped me understand nature better and how to care more about it and also in a weird way it helps me love the dogs more and meeting you would be a honor. You know I'm a big tough guy but you put me in the woods while life just scares me I guess it's my sensitivity knowing what can happen out there is this to me so scary I think being around you would change all that but again thank you for the videos they're awesome and again if you're Atlanta please I'll stop by you have a place to stay here I have so many questions for you but maybe one day I'll get to ask you thank you again for your passion have a good night.. it's funny I can sit and listen you talk all night because I'm so attracted to intelligence I couldn't stand to hear my ex-girlfriend talk but you probably could talk so much I would just fall asleep and I'd be so happy and sleep like a baby and you intrigue me anyway you have a wonderful night and maybe one day I'll get the honor of meeting you can go down to Savannah Georgia and look at the wildlife in the ocean there it's so intriguing such a beautiful place
