Ashley despises Andrew, it's Andy she likes. Andy was the docile, submissive persona who went along with her every whim, but Andrew is the older, matured persona who will stand up to Ashley and her bullshit. Conversely, that's also why Andrew hates the Andy persona so much and wants to kill it, while Ashley and Leyley are pretty much the same. She's always been that deranged since she was a kid.

@user-xz6qc5ej2r I guess it depends on which version of the ending you get. Not sure if this is a spoiler but there's basically 2 different endings to this second chapter that each lead to a different chapter 3. I suppose in one of them, it makes sense that they'd both die and thus the coffin their literal one. Then in the other, where Andrew truly learns to let Andy die and stand up to his sister, and Ashley learns to grow as a person and ditch the "Leyley" persona to actually become a somewhat decent human being, then we will have the metaphorical coffin. What are we, some kind of Coffin of Andy and Leyley? Roll credits

Cannibalism is bad but sometime necessary (if you haven't ate a thing in months), there has been a case of a plane crashing into mountains where only some people survived, there was nothing but snow there, so the remaining people decided to eat the bodies of the dead as they haven't ate for a long time and were about to die. they "got away with it" just fine, they survived. (don't get me wrong, i don't support cannibalism)
@DaJackCracker

The parents were so neglectful and manipulative towards their children that they had to treat eachother as parental figures, which resulted in this fucked up relationship. Andrew was the "favored" child, meaning he had the more reasonable personality, but his presence in an abusive family meant he was submissive and clingy and believes that he doesn't deserve any form of real love or affection. Ashley was the "hated" child and clearly had some neuroatypical problems in the first place, meaning that all she ever learned about relationships was manipulation and that she cannot receive any form of attention or love without demanding it. They both grew up with a flawed understanding of love and affection, which was only compounded by the death of a child extremely early on forming a "callus" against any serious peer to peer relationships outside of their pair. This means that when puberty struck, their emotional isolation from the rest of the world and the peers and idols young teenagers would normally direct their burgeoning sexuality towards was instead restricted to eachother. This overcame the westermarck effect, so they were physically attracted to eachother. Andrew, as the more societally conscious of the pair, attempted to direct his sexuality towards other women, but was likely unable to maintain any kind of serious relationship and may not have ever actually progressed to actual sex (both due to a lack of genuine emotional connection and the rampant harrassment any girlfriend would take from Ashley). Ashley, as the one without any form of meaningful connection to anybody outside Andrew, focused her full attention on him, possibly without being initially aware of the what she wanted (after all, her understanding of relationships and sexuality is deeply flawed and underdeveloped), only to be repeatedly rejected due to social guidelines and Andrews' attempts to distract himself with other girls. Thus their deteriorating relationship up until the quarantine. That provided both a physical isolation from the rest of society that has forced them to confront the best and worst aspects of their relationship without interference and, in the form of the cannibalism, killing, and ensuing escape, a major enough shift in situation and relationship paradigm that the previous stand off could not be maintained, forcing a new relationship to be formed.

Andrew and Ashley’s relationship is definitely on the weird side if that isn’t obvious enough. There are subtle hints that the mom gets towards it, like Andrew having his finger in Ashley’s belt loop when she catches them talking ( 30:18 ), or when the mom sees the both of them at the end ( 1:05:15 )and Andrew holds a pillow over his lap while Ashley is on the ground…

Omg, it just hit me, I think Andrew is being corrupted by Ashley and her… feelings towards him. I noticed the pillow, but never really thought much of it, I just thought it made the situation look worse from the mom’s perspective. Though, 19:42 was a really big moment in this topic specifically, but that belt loop thing was so subtle that I didn’t even notice it. In fact, Andrew probably didn’t either, I’m not sure. On that dialogue that I stamped, I thought it was just an instance where some of the bs that Ashley says lingered with him, but as far as I can remember, the last time she said something like that was in the bush scene where what she said wasn’t completely acknowledged. Which means (assuming that’s true) conscious or not, that was one of his own thoughts and not Ashley _actively_ invading his mind. I mean I guess I know they’ve been together for years, and she’s probably been doing the same thing for years, but I never realized how much it actually could have affected Andrew. And I guess the bite right before the pillow was probably a reason it had to be put there.

I personally can’t say that I believe he’s fond of the manipulation at all, but despite all of Ashley’s bullshit, he’s still stuck with her at the end of the day because he can’t be without her. Even in the cult scene last episode, iirc, he said he began to miss her a little over halfway through. I think it’s honestly a byproduct of the manipulation. Ashley's a pretty tragic character. Neglected and abused by everyone because she was, well, utterly unlikable; and so she clung tightly to her brother, the only person in her life who didn't treat her badly. But she has such a deep-set insecurity, a feeling that no one could ever genuinely like her, that she felt the need to blackmail him into not abandoning her. She's completely callous, a real psychopath, but the only reason she became evil was because everyone treated her like garbage. That's just sad.

Your theory relies on them being able to convincingly lie to the police. Ashley might have been able to but Andrew would've 'fessed right away, especially if the police told him he would get in less trouble if he told them Ironically that would've been for the best, at least for Andrew. He probably wouldn't receive a harsh punishment because he's a kid and he actually didn't know what the consequences would be, but he would be taken away from Ashley and her toxic influence, and he wouldn't need to keep such a terrible secret for so long which would've lightened the load on his soul, AND Ashley wouldn't have such a strong weapon to manipulate him with. Its pretty evident that his eagerness to please others is not so much kindness as it is pathological. Probably just like with Ashley, their parents exacerbated his issues and made him very dependent on others. The idea of being alone seems to terrify him at least as much as it does Ashley too. I theorize that a part of him loves Ashley because she offers him an escape from the normal societal expectations that he's so beholden to. I mean he literally tells himself in his dream that he has no regrets for murder when its done for Ashley. And despite the constant arguing, he's also often very happy when they're insulting each other for fun. So its kinda no wonder what he's feeling when he views her as like a symbol of all his darkest impulses.

Wouldn't make much difference to be frank, the building code in the US means most residential doors are built extremely flimsy, with only half inch screws that only go into the door moulding holding the strike plate on and the doors themselves usually just being a pressed softwood or hollow sheet metal construction, most exterior doors can be kicked down almost immediately. To really secure your doors you want to replace all the screws with 3" minimum so they actually go into the frame instead of the moulding, as well as getting much larger strike plates (ideally ones that run the entire length of the door frame to distribute the impact of a kick), as well as replacing the door itself with a solid hardwood one. You can also buy a plate that goes around the doorknob and deadbolt to add a little extra strength to that area since it tends to be weaker, special security hinges can also be used to secure. Doing this will prevent most quick B&E's since most criminals are looking to draw as little attention to themselves as possible and every additional second they have to spend trying to get through your door makes the risk of getting caught worse. Of course though you have the issue of ground floor windows, which again thanks to the construction of your average US home is generally just a single ply or two ply tempered glass, making them extremely easy to break, your main solution there would be laminated windows (work like a car windshield, two plains of glass with a polymer filler in between so when the glass breaks it starts in place) which are very expensive or some sort of bars on the inside or outside of the windows. Having good security also means giving up some privacy, as one of the best deterrents of entries means the entrances of your house are very clearly visible to the outside so anyone in the neighbourhood could very easily spot someone trying to break in, which alone can deter most break in attempts from even happening, especially during the day which statistically is when the majority of them happen.

1:01:35 Aaaaand poor Andrew got an eye infection from Ashley's blood getting in his eye. LOL Also the cultist in Andrew's dream has a point. If you didn't understand the thespian-style speech, he was basically saying that Ashley and Andrew were idiots for leaving his limbs in their freezer, in their apartment, because the fire likely didn't destroy them completely due to a freezer being insulated.. So there most likely _Is_ some sort of search or investigation going on about their disappearance. They'd know that Ashley and Andrew didn't die in the fire. No bodies.

I wonder if the parent's distaste with their kids' mere existence is because they were was always secretly aware of how unusually close they were, like closer than you'd expect your average siblings to be. Hence why the mom chastises them for still being around each other even to this day and absolutely insisting that they sleep separately. No incest in her house. I'm guessing that the parents were both happier at the thought of having dead kids, as opposed to incestuous kids, when they left them behind at that crummy apartment. That's all I can think of to explain the mom's utter indifference to seeing them alive. But then again, almost everyone in this world is a dickhead so I could be dead wrong And Ashley is still the worst

Part of me thinks that it was actually partially because of money issues too. Also the possibility that the parents didn’t even really WANT to have kids (what if Andy and Leyley were both accidents? I mean, it seems like the parents are rather kinky and like they only really care about living well and eachother) and it wasn’t until after Ashley was born that it fully sunk in for them. Idk if the creator has said anything specific about their childhood or their parents outside of what we see in the game, but I can’t help but get the feeling that Ashley is the way that she is at least partially because of her parents not seeming to care about her at all and simply just pushing her off onto Andrew. Maybe the parents tried to raise Andrew more normally/like they actually cared about him, but as soon as Ashley became more of a handful they realized that they didnt actually want either of them? If we believe the beginning of the whole scene about the lemon cupcakes, their parents only ever really celebrated Andrew’s birthday because of money troubles. Neither of the parents are anywhere to be seen and don’t seem to have done ANYTHING for Ashley on that day, either, (not even a cheap handmade card or anything like that, all we hear about is Ashley’s school trying to celebrate her birthday with her at least a little bit iirc) instead just leaving Andrew to comfort her and take her to the store seemingly all on his own as a semi young kid. Ngl, it also seems to me that it’s ANDREW that has the most incestuous issues between the two of them, even though he tries really hard to hide it, so I wonder if the incest vibes was just the final nail in the coffin (lol).

Brah- I talked about it last video but this makes it even worse. The first thing the mom does when confronted by Ashely is lie and then shove her off onto Andrew. Like instantly "Shouldn't you be bugging Andrew by now." she needs a kick to the throat as well. It's also really interesting how quickly Andrew falls into the good son role for the mother. She doesn't question anything he says and believes him when he lies. Ashely is silent for a good chunk of the first half just because Andrew can talk. It's all bullshit of course, in the kitchen when he's trying to talk to Ashely. It seems to be implying the mom has always been cold and distant it just Andrew picked up how to fling it back in her face. What also gets me rolling around in anger is that the mom has the nerve to say. "Don't you two get tired of each other?" WHAT DO YOU MEAN!? They have no one but each other. Especially, Ashley, Andrew can at least fake it till you make but Ashley is a lost cause. Andrew out here having to say he Chose Ashely cause she has abandonment issues. An does what annoys me more than the fact she knows they (Andrew and Ashely) have a weird relationship. Like she catches them in the kitchen whispering and Andrew's fingers in Ashely's short loop. She emphasizes that they need to sleep in different areas like come on. At least have the extra pair to call your kids out for what you think they're doing. The fact she probably thinks it's not her fault. That the kids are just like that her parenting was fine. It is clear Andrew is spiraling too, seeing how he has the whole dream. Where he has to compartmentalize the whole fucked up situation. Also, Ashley is to blame for a good chunk of it too. Like Andrew isn't innocent not by a long shot. But got damn does he pale in comparison to his sister. Like- Andrew's whole dream had me screaming. He can't catch a break and Ashely is just the worst. It is also very interesting, how the eye and the mouth are part of the blood pact. I'm guessing Andrews gonna lose an eye and Ashely will lose her ability to speak. This would be fitting for her because she uses her words to fuck with Andrew. I hope so bad the mom finishes what she was saying. I wanna hear just the bullshit she's about to say. Like this whole game has me shaking my phone. There's so much to talk about honestly. But I can't wait for the next part. I do share the whole, I hope they don't die. I feel like that such the obvious way to go. Ashely dies goes to hell and Andrew stays alive or they both die and that's the end. Like I wouldn't be surprised but I would want something different.

Ashely is super sad too because it seems like she has Historionic Personality Disorder and one of the best ways to treat that are to give someone a emotionally available caregiver. Which...the mom kind of did, by putting Andrew into that role and constantly reinforcing him as Ashelys main focus which then exacerbated her own behavior and further fostering a toxic codependency. Like legitimately so much of this comes down to their parents fomenting a ever worsening loop and no one getting proper care. Especially notable in that similar to ASPD people with HPD tend to have little little self doubt, ability to read others emotions as true and so in their upbringing actively encouraged Ashley's attention seeking behavior due to not giving any lessons on more pro-social means for recognition.

I think it's interesting in the story that so far a lot of people blame everything on Ashley and reach the conclusion that Andrew is a by-product of manipulation and abuse, but if you think about it, andrew never actually seems to feel guilt for any of his murders, he is only scared of the consequences. Like nina (girl in the box), i noticed when he finds out, he's only worried he'll go to prison and not the fact that the girl had a life and family and is now dead. Everytime he is shown as scared in the story is actually only the fear of being caught, not the fear of his actions. I definitely think that Ashley is the main driving force towards the siblings actions becoming increasingly worse, but i do think that as they are siblings they probably will have the same tendencies, i think andrew certainly isn't normal either, but as he says a suspicious amount in the video, he prefers to ''keep up appearences'' and act normal to blend in, where as ashley prefers to do whatever she wants no matter the consequence in order to have things her way regardless of what others think. Whether it's psycopathy who knows? And this is besides all the potential incest that appears to be happening. I guess we'll see next time though...
