My loctician explained that Sisterlocks are supposed to be different sizes because hair density and even the grade of hair is different throughout your head.

So high density to low density ...how should they be in those two areas?

@kahinamatata from what I can tell, my locs ae like yours...thicker in the back but thinner locs at the crown. I'm 9 months in and have had to combine a few. They were simply too thin.

Your locs are gorgeous!!! And, Wow thank you so much for your transparency! I'm about 4 months loc'd and even though I do not style often (or at all really), I do like putting what length I do have in a pony. When I did this in the beginning (around my first month) I saw a thin loc and eventually the end of it broke off. It was already a thinner loc than the rest of the surrounding locs, so I was not sure if the pony played a part in the thinning or if it was the size of the loc itself. Since then I have not done a lot of styles in fear of the same thing happening, and I also was unsure if it was the cause, especially since it was so early in my journey, and the overall loc was thinner. It seems like they both played a part! Your video has been really helpful! Thank you again!

Thank you so much! 🤎 and you’re welcome!! Have you noticed any others that are really thin, and if so, how are they doing?? I feel like they’re just going to do what they want so that’s why I just do what I want 🤣 but updos early on in the journey could be another helpful thing to try out too! I didn’t have any issues when I was doing those and leaving them in for like 2-3 weeks as a protective style.

This happens to me with the same loc on my right edges. My hair is naturally thinner. But if you are not braid/banding then bunching will do this. My loctician does loc maintenance regularly and uses a tiny Crochet hook to rejoin the thicker pieces. but im going to take a class to learn how to my maintain my hair.

Hi beautiful! I think my hair might be thinner in those areas to where I’m seeing this happen. I definitely need that crochet hook lol will you be learning to retie and repair?

First thing I thought about was the braiding and banding when washing your hair. With your hair texture, that may be something you have to do. At least you'll have a cute braid out afterwards.

If you arent braiding and banding with that loose texture Your locs are probably slipping out not necessarily thinning and breakage. How often are your retightenings? Maybe you want to push it out by a week or two to ensure its not related to tension. Also are you still using starter shampoo or a clarifying shampoo to help the locking process?

Hi beautiful! Thank you for this feedback 🤎 I agree; I’m sure the lack of braiding & banding is playing a role if not the biggest. It’s interesting because even so, my newest loctician hasn’t enforced it either! I use a natural shampoo made by the loctician who installed my locs; it may or may not be clarifying lol (writing this comment out is making me face how I knowww I can be doing better for my hair 😂)

I hate doing my own hair. But for this very reason, I am combining and doing my own maintenance. I’m scared of the frequent retightenings now.

I ve been researching sisterlocks. This is my fear. My hair is fine but medium dense. So i think i want more medium to large locs
@kahinamatata
@kahinamatata 2 ай бұрын
Ooo so we have similar textures/density. Same here. There are still so many microlocs/sisterlocks that do just fine though! I think with some of the precautions I mentioned, it could help prevent this for you and your loctician could advise more on that too! But I definitely understand the fear.
