Girl!! Yessss! I'm so excited for you! I remember how frustrated you were and that exact video. I have a 2-hour retie $125 in Colorado. I was gonna be sad if you got rid of your pretty locs. Once you become a regular, then she may let you after she sees how your hair will do during the longer period. Don't forget about those locs you already lost. You wanted to combine some of them anyway, so it may be a good thing. But she really has no business ripping your hair off. That's crazy! Good luck!

Your locs are gorgeous!!! And, Wow thank you so much for your transparency! I'm about 4 months loc'd and even though I do not style often (or at all really), I do like putting what length I do have in a pony. When I did this in the beginning (around my first month) I saw a thin loc and eventually the end of it broke off. It was already a thinner loc than the rest of the surrounding locs, so I was not sure if the pony played a part in the thinning or if it was the size of the loc itself. Since then I have not done a lot of styles in fear of the same thing happening, and I also was unsure if it was the cause, especially since it was so early in my journey, and the overall loc was thinner. It seems like they both played a part! Your video has been really helpful! Thank you again!

Consult with a third before combining anything. Monitor your hair’s strength as it relates the smaller locs. I say that because I saw another video where the woman was advised to combine only to have two headed dragons placed in her head. She was told by another, that the locs didn’t need to be combined( but maybe the person did it to save time on reties. That also relates to the strict 6 week or nothing philosophy. More new growth, more time it takes to complete a retie. I’m monitoring the rate of growth I’m experiencing right now. I don’t want to experience traction alopecia due to getting a retie before having sufficient new growth (I’ve seen other ladies talk about this as well….sticking to a strict schedule; but your hair not really needing to be maintained at that point. So much to learn so you’ll know if you’re being guided properly.

Sounds like the new loctician knows what she is talking about. Some of your locs are weak due to being too small and your desire to stretch up to 10 weeks. Unless the loc is too small when your hair is formed into a loc the normal shedding makes the loc thickens up. Yes she should have pointed it out to you before popping but continuing to waiting too long between reties will only continue to cause more damage.

I switched my 3rd or 4th month. My new loctician was a trainee when I switched, but she’s literally down the street and her reties take about 2 hours. She doesn’t include a wash though, but I pay $125 every 6 - 8 weeks. I wash in advance, but my hair is dry by the time she starts so she winds up misting it anyway. I’ve considered trying a new loctician just to get see feedback about my current loctician because my current complains about mine being too small too. I’ve reluctantly let her combine a few but only because she convinced me they were weakening. I worry about her combining them without informing me, but my locks still look good and healthy so I’m trusting she’s doing what’s best.

Girl that's soooo good. My retie takes almost 4 hours without a wash. It's $155 and I go every 4 weeks. I wash my hair the day before. I'm looking for a new loctician because my retie hurts. I believe she is heavy hand. She says that I'm really tender headed. I like my person she's still new only about 2 years in. Wish me luck.

If you arent braiding and banding with that loose texture Your locs are probably slipping out not necessarily thinning and breakage. How often are your retightenings? Maybe you want to push it out by a week or two to ensure its not related to tension. Also are you still using starter shampoo or a clarifying shampoo to help the locking process?

For those who are concerned about this you can consider microlocs (doesn’t have to be minimum 400 locs like sisterlocs and they can be bigger). I contemplated between both for almost a year but chose microlocs largely for this reason

Soo from my awareness, the 400 minimum isn’t exactly true; it really depends on the specific person’s hair. But I hear what you’re saying and this can be a workaround if the microlocs are made much bigger. If you still end up with hundreds of microlocs though, the experience I’m describing could very well be the same. How many microlocs did you end up with? And how long are your reties?

I'm a stylist and I will say that I have charged more for sisterlocks in certain cases because most people exceed the time frame to get them retightened and can lead to a lot more matting at the root . With sisterlocs, your grid is everything so sometimes parts have to be recreated. It's more time-consuming to recreate and detangle hair for a sisterloc grid without compromising your parts . But when you have microlocs there is no grid, making it easier to collect fly aways or counter matting that may occur because there is less pressure to keep a straight line. I find that sister locs take more maintenance to maintain parting and most women don't care for them like they should in between retightening so I got tired of recreating portions of grids and charging a flat rate.
@kahinamatata
@kahinamatata Ай бұрын
Hi beautiful! Thanks for sharing your experience! Based on this, I’m perfectlyyy fine with my sisterlocks being maintained as microlocs if that’s the case. FINALLY A SISTERLOC’R TELLING THE TRUTH! Sisterlocs is NOT TRUE hair freedom. It’s still just like needing a “relaxer” every 6 weeks in my opinion. Same mentality…Gotta hide those roots growing in lol. I thank God I realized this sooner than later and took my 460 sisterlocs down right after my first retie. I believe the up charge may be associated with the specific grid that is attached to the sisterlocs. I have had micro locs for almost a year. And before I got them, I did extensive research on the difference between the two. From what I was told there cannot be any combining of the locs, and the locs have to be all one size with sisterlocs.. if you have finer hair, this could pose a problem later on when the locs get longer and thicker . For reference I have varying size locs due to my hair density and softness.

There may be more Sisterlocks in a person's head to retighten on average and to stay within guidelines of maintaining the grid and integrity, the locticians will use the Sisterlock tool. Yes it takes a long time to retighten, but look at the alternative. Without locs,, how often would you do your hair? How many hours weekly would you spend doing your hair without them? I’m slow at doing hair without locs so it just made sense. I’d either be spending hours on a weekly basis or a hours every month and a half. Yes the amount of hours per session increases but when compared to the amount of time your have to retouch your hair when it’s lose natural, it doesn’t end up being more time. Actually if you are going to a professional you may spend way less time in the retightening appointments than doing your hair yourself every few days without locs
