A new update of navigation maps is here! But how to update the maps? Believe me, it was not so easy. My navi odyssey started a week ago and I had to try many different steps to finally be satisfied. Almost. Why almost? Just check the video!

Hi Roman Verhovsek. Thanks a lot for this video. It explains a lot to me why my previous attempts failed on me. Also had the same issue that an online downloaded map update got stuck. And I ran into many issues while trying to update using a USB thumb drive (NTFS) formatted. Soon I am going for another attempt (thumb drive exFAT formatted), based on your advice. Also good to know that the update runs while the car is not running. This kind of information should be shared by Skoda, but they don't. Thanks again for sharing this information. Much appreciated! Update: Got it working: 1) Bought myself a high speed SD card (32 GB). 2) Formatted it to exFAT on my W10 machine using 3rd party software because Microsoft's implementation of exFAT isn't good. 3) Downloaded the 25 GB package from the Skoda website. 4) Unzipped it to the SD card and when ready inserted the SD card in my car (glove compartment). 5) Ran the update in my Skoda from the navigation menu (version information > update SD/USB), which took 4 hours. But no problem because you can turn of the engine and lock the car. All the while the update keeps on running! Just wait until the update is found on the SD card, select it and start the update. When running (wait until on 1 percent), you can turn off the car). Thanks to your video Roman I was able to get the update running. Much appreciated!

Map update to 2018 version proved difficult in my superb 2016 Columbus model .Be aware that some SD cards appear not to be able to be formatted in FAT 32 such as my sandisk 64Gb class 10 90 mbps card which seems only to accept Exfat or ntfs formats neither of which suits my Columbus. I tried Exfat but the system didn't want to know! So, I went to my dealer who had the 2018 maps on a usb flash drive formatted in Fat32 at 4096.( see the update portal re this spec.) The maps took 35 minutes to upload to Columbus ( 1% every 20 seconds until 100% completion - around 40 mins. approx.) The engine did not need to be running contrary to the Skoda update portal and there was no need to worry about the procedure flattening the battery as has been implied elsewhere I read. If the radio unit switches off (as it will do after a set period with the engine off) before 100% completion , just switch the unit back on and uploading will continue although at a much slower pace than 1% every 20 seconds I found. Curious but true in my case. Further obsevations:Next update, I,ll use a 64 Gb USB 3 flash drive which is capable of Fat 32 formatting. My thanks to James Gallagher and staff at West End Garage Edinburgh for their patient assistance in resolving my difficulty. Dave Mitchell.

It was said on another video that 64Gb SD cards can pose compatibility issues and a 32Gb card should be used to avoid these.

Hi Roman, first of all congratulation for your channel. We shared the same passion for Skoda Kodiaq. I took the car last October and I am still learning how everything works. I tried all the steps described in your video but nothing. Last thing to do is to format the USB in exFat instead of FAT32. I will update you on this issue. Thanks anyway for the time that you spend on this channel. Elzo

NTFS is a Microsoft proprietary file system and Linux based computers (including the satnavs used in your Skoda) does not have proper builtin support for it.

Maybe things have changed in 2 years but an NTFS formatted SD card worked for me.

Hi Roman I’m trying to fallow your clip however the system can’t find the updates. I’m using usb stick format exfat 32. It’s very slow process…

use sd card or faster 3.1 usb stick, usb stick are mostly usb 2.0 which are slow

I'm having similar problems. used SD card should be formatted in NFTS format NOT FAT32 as recommended by Skoda. BUT can't update as Columbus says " can't find update file" which is inserted in the SD drive................no solution so far!
