Hi Angela, Your completed garden is gorgeous. I learned a lot from you thru the years. Our soil science is totally different from each other. My soil is mostly damp and the environment here in mid-Louisiana is very hot and humid. Just one of the many ideas that I learned from you, which worked great for my garden, is about adding worm compost containers in the garden. Wow!!! I could not dig deep due to my loss of strength with aging. So, I made holes all over the sides of lg yogurt containers, cut our the bottoms, fill them regularly w kitchen compost and cover the containers. W that I have an abundance of red wiggler worms that love my garden. I'm 80 yrs this month w cancer and radiation plus other aging health issues. Our Good God continues to give me courage and strength to continue gardening which keeps me moving and mentally sound. Thank you Angela, for all you do and teach us.

Thank you, Laura, for sharing your gardens. My Seed Starts and plantings seem to be about 1 month or 2 behind yours. I guess I need to begin even earlier than I thought. Did you use very many transplants or is the majority started from seed? One more question regarding the Perpetual Planting and Harvesting Calendar: If the veggie is listed for a certain month, is that for Seed Starting or Planting? Should I count back a couple of months for Seed Starting? I appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Thank you again and Happy Thanksgiving!
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
I start the majority of mine from seed / indoors and out. In the original calendar what is listed is for planting outdoors. Yes, count back 1-2 months for starting indoors. I recently updated the calendar and I included the indoor seed starting information on each month as well.

Hi Angela, would love to see how you organize your pots when you are not using them. My backyard is not as big as yours (live in suburbia) but decent. I’m planning on getting a shed because my gardening supplies have taken over my backyard. You gave me a great idea to DIY a prep station because I make a mess on my pool deck. Kind of embarrassing now 😅 Do you have a shed?

Hi. I stack upside down next to the white potting table and underneath the big seed starting table. Many of them stack pretty well and they don't take up much room. I use the soil inside the pots to mulch trees in the yard. It works out pretty well.

Great ideas. Thank you for the tour. I finally ordered my first two raised beds in galvanized steel. That pesky termite issue has always prevented me from doing raised beds & my container plants never produce in large enough quantities to make gardening worthwhile. It gets frustrating. So I'm hoping the raised beds will fix that issue. My HOA will not allow citrus trees in the fruit yard & totally ban mulberry & olive trees d/t the mess.

We are in the process of expanding our garden area and it gives me a lot of ideas for layout, etc. Can you have a video on cutting back peppers and any other plants to overwinter? I am in zone 9b too and grow many of the plants you mentioned. I would love to know about your trellises. Did you make them or purchase?

She did a video on all of her trellises. I watched a few months ago but to be honest I was a new follower and it could have been an older video.

Hi Angela, I'm trying to figure out what side of your house your original area is. I have a east/west facing house and I'm wondering if I can grow anything on the north side between my house and the wall. It's almost as wide as yours, so there's room, I just don't know if it's useable.

@@GrowingInTheGarden Thank you... that surprises me. I was looking at the shadows and it looked like the side might be between your house and wall like mine. your side yard is on the west side, mine is on the north.. Well, darn. I'm hoping I can still create a nice space between my house and the wall. Maybe a summer veggie garden can go there. It gets about 5 hours of sun in the summer...

How long can you keep your Citrus and fig trees in half whiskey barrels before the Roots become too root bound? And how do you handle that?
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
Usually 3-4 years then I take them out, trim the roots, prune them back a bit and add fresh raised bed mix.

Do you start most everything from seeds and transplant to the garden?
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
It depends on the season. This year I wanted to grow a lot of different flowers that aren't available as transplants so yes I did. Other times, I purchase more transplants.

@@GrowingInTheGarden thank you so much!! I LOVE nasturtium. We make a salt with the leaves, eat the blooms on salads. I have heard of the seeds as capers I've never tried them though. I enjoy your channel so much. We went to Flagstaff during the summer, we're from the east coast. The ponderosa pines made us have to leave. Do you have ponderosa pines as far down as you are? I wanted to see a saguaro 🌵. I would love to live in the desert. I used to think the beach was my place to find solace... until I went out west and discovered the desert! The painted desert... The most unusual place I've ever seen! I LOVED IT!! Thank you for letting me ask you questions. I work for a company called Acumen out of Mesa. I think we need to go to headquarters for a meeting...😂

Great video! We've been waiting for the tour :-) Did you put down weed/grass barrier for your whole raised bed zone? We started over the top of a decades old bermuda grass lawn and it's been a nightmare...
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden Жыл бұрын
Yes, I put down a fabric weed cloth in most of the areas that had bermuda grass before installing the wood chips and raised beds. The exception would be where I have in ground areas - I did not install weed cloth in those areas.
