I was digging through old art of mine recently and came across an unfinished piece. No memory of the hours obviously put in or why I didn't finish it. It was very good. So me and former unremembered self did a collab on this art which is now finished. Sometimes the seperation via time from yourself and your former works gives you a new appreciation for the things you've done.

I hope you are totally recovered from that awful beast of a disease. I'm on edge about my husband, because he had to have two - mercifully small - operations to get rid of skin cancer. It was on his bald head, making it difficult to stitch together. The "on edge" bit is that he has always had a number of moles on his back, and some have always been weirdly shaped. The oncologist has been taking photos of his back and he has to return every 6 months to get another one done so they can compare them. We don't want him to need any other ops, and not just because of the obvious reason. He has a physical disability based at a particularly sensitive place in his spine, which was made worse after an operation. The op was okay, but he was starting to recover when we got rear-ended at some traffic lights 🤦🏻‍♀️. He's now limited in how far he can walk, amongst other things. Guessed where the most concerning mole is? His back literally cannot be touched there, at least with him conscious. His sister died of leukaemia when she was only 32 (28 years ago come December - it still feels like yesterday). I'm not even counting the cases on my side of the family! You can imagine why we're all rather tense! So I automatically feel very "protective", so to speak, of others going through the same sort of thing. I don't mean to be rude, I certainly don't want to pry into anyone's business, I just want to hear that you beat that damned disease! Be well, anyone who reads this it's for you too. Be well, stay well and have a long and happy, healthy life ahead of you. It _can_ be beaten. My sister, now sans breasts but also sans cancer, will tell you that!

I like Hank Green myself but what if there are terrified people who can be comforted or at least more knowledgeable because this exists for free. Same with John Green and TB. I am from America and guess what? I know someone with TB and it is common and hard and heavily discriminated against but someone out there is finally telling people “Yes the TB treatment is monopolized and hard to get access to EVEN HERE and it isn’t an ancient illness”

I had lymphoma in 2019 which was miraculously eradicated through immunotherapy. Before chemo, I was programmer. It took a year before I could code again, and if I'm lucky it only takes me one or two months to accomplish what I used to be able to do in a day. I'm frequently put in contact with the products of that previous version of me. It's humbling and sobering. And terrifying. I hope I get to be like him again.

As soon as this video started, I was all "But Hank, you taught *me* about the Lymphatic System!" Because not only have I rewatch this A&P series in full multiple times, each time a loved one had a new serious diagnosis, I'd go back to the relevant episodes and swot-up, so I was better able to handle the news, and to share the knowledge when relevant. From celiac disease and bowl cancer, MND and neurological conditions, and far more than I'm ready to face listing in it's entirety, that Crash Course series, more than any other, has been a friend, and an ally, in the worst moments of my family's lives. I could not be more grateful to you all, and yes to you, Hank. Because it may not be your words, my old friend and total stranger, but the way you said the words, the choices you made in how you delivered the scripts, it made learning about things - that were trying to kill the people I love - more manageable, less painful, and ultimately more successful. If I were a rich person, I would give the Crash Course team more money than they could spend each year. Knowledge isn't just power, it's kindness, it's love. Thank you

When she was about 3 years old, my daughter suddenly needed to know everything about gravity and the states of matter. Crash course was there for her! I had to slow the video playback speed because they always went too fast for her, and pause to try to explain many concepts to her, but it was still really helpful. 6 years later she's forgotten everything, but it's still a good memory for me.

This is really amazing. At one point in my life I created something like Lego bricks for editing bacterial and yeast genomes. I designed and patented robotic systems to generate thousands of entirely new strains of bacteria. Then sometimes people will ask me about my work and I have to say 'hold on let me check my notes' because past me was a genius with these things but current me can't remember what that dude was thinking or how he came up with those ideas. It's like imposter syndrome but for yourself. I think it probably says something deeper about what 'knowing things' and 'the self' means. Which ultimately helps me forgive myself as I get older and envy my younger self, who knew things I don't know anymore, but didn't know things I know today (mostly about life and happiness). Anyway you yourself are a team through time that makes you who you are, and be kind to all versions of yourself that existed and will exist!

My astronomy club is watching the Crash Course Astronomy series (with smart and fun host Phil Plait). At each monthly meeting, we set aside several minutes to watch the next one. Most of us already know most of what each episode will explain, but NONE of us know ALL of it, so it's valuable to each of us. Last night, at our June, 2024 meeting, we were behind, and our president said we should just delay Crash Course until next month, and almost everyone said 'aw, man' or 'no' or 'please' or something similar. So we just watched episode 14 and let the meeting run late. As I've written in comments before, I so wish I could contribute more financially, but I simply don't have the funds to do more (I am a low-level Patron of SciShow). So, I'm really grateful to the folks who can -- and do! -- buy the coins or find other ways to support the whole Nerdfighteria community. Thanks!

I've informed future me in this way too, one year apart. It really is spooky, looking up something with the same search engine that kicks off every other web adventure, finding something really informative, and discovering that YOU AUTHORED IT and then forgot. In my case, it was instructions for installing mods into a game's Mac release, low stakes and easy to forget. This is a warning in disguise- when we extend our human abilities with tech, we don't fully encompass ourselves anymore.

CGP Grey likens cell phones to external prosthetic memory. He does so in the context of "and, therefore, the rules we put in place to allow access by government fiat will be the rules in place for *internal* prosthetic memory," but this really demonstrates how technology in general - even if it's as simple a technology as writing down a phone number - really is that, and has been for millennia.

Reminds me how optimistic we all were about the internet and its future back in 2011 And on one hand Crashcourse has clearly succeeded better than anyone could have expected. So the optimism was justified and realized! On the other hand, the world seems so much more complicated now, 13 years later. The social internet has exacerbated many problems we hadn't conceived of, and these problems often seem so immense and intractable and hopelessly unsolvable. idk. sorry for being a buzzkill

I love how you directed so much specific credit for the crash course video to the many people who worked on it, but I also hoped you allowed yourself to feel a little pride for your own part in making this successful. You deserve it.

I'm in paramedic, school and I literally had to go back today and review the lymphatic system because I'd forgotten most of it. And I studied it 5 months ago. Like I forgot the thymus is an organ in our body!

I was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year, for some reason I remembered today that you also had been diagnosed and I just wanted to hear from you, you have a stand out voice in my head, and I always watched Crash Course and PBS Eons, and to this day I still do, although mostly by memory in my head. I wanted to say after watching this I decided to take a Crash Course on my bladder again, and well I just feel better after seeing/hearing you talk about it in that video. Best wishes to you, it's one heck of a fight. I don't know what else to say, but I wish I could shake your hand, you've done a lot for me, I want to do more for you

I love you Hank. I think this every time I see a video, but now I'm commenting it. Made such a difference in my life and its the community that I wish I had in physical form around me instead of in internet form.

This video feels so close to my heart. When my mom was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I went to all of her doctors appointments with her. As a junior in high school, they were overwhelming, confusing, and emotional. As hard as I tried, I was having trouble understanding her body and what was really wrong with her. I also ended up on so many different google result pages before defaulting to the videos I’d seen, and loved, so many times before in school. You’d think that the knowledge it provided me with would be scary, and of course it kind of was, but the power of understanding (more) felt like relief. It gave me a sense of confidence and hope that helped me survive it all as it went down. What you, and the whole CrashCourse team do is invaluable. I’m so grateful for all that you’ve done for me, and for the world, and I’m damn glad you’re still around.

I’m suddenly reminded of John’s “me from the past” bit from past Crash Course episodes in the most hilarious way. Only this time, the “me from the past” is the one doing the teaching instead!

The beauty of Crash Course is that in a very real way, the world needs direct, impact-focused effort made by a team of dedicated and motivated people now more than ever. These are increasingly uncertain and scary times, and having something made not for profit or immediately, selfishly-motivated gain and instead made for the benefit of the world at large because it's the *right* thing to do is exactly what staves off the terrifying things we're facing as a species. I think this sort of uncanny moment is starting to recognize the sheer impact Crash Course will have on GENERATIONS of learners.

I don’t know if you and john know how far of a reach crash course truly has, but it’s a source of hope for me that one day we could have a society that uses technology to disseminate our accumulated knowledge as a species. Right now it seems bleak, but if we educate ourselves and future generations we could potentially make a better future for everyone, and to me this project is a huge youth outreach program. Thank you, hank.

This is comedy GOLD! But seriously, the fact that you were able to get the information you needed during a stressful time of your life that you were involved in is amazing! And you knew it was a source you could trust.

Hank i am so happy that you are doing better and that the😮 treatments worked 🙏🙏 Being honest, I have only known you from Crash Courses in Biology. I love the way you share knowledge and you seem like a great human being. I am truly happy, grateful and relieved that you are still alive and well and sharing your passion with us ❤ I had leukemia so maybe this hits a nerve for me and i cry a little bit from happiness from you being okay. P.S: i also got curly hair after chemo from leukemia and i love it! Ahahah Love from Portugal ❤❤
