As a german i never understood why some countries aren't well linked through railway connections. As a teen with a friend halfway across the country it only takes 9 hours for me to get from one extremly rural area in the middle of germany to another one at the coast, all by public transit. On top of that my school issues deutschlandtickets ( flat rate for public transport, only excludes the two fastest types of trains) for not the usual 50€/month, but only 14€/month, when the train jounrey back and fourth would usually run me almost 100€ without the ticket. As much as us germans complain about the DB, they work absoulute wonders for mobility, especially in teens

100% agreed, being able to get to all corners of Germany with connecting RB/S-Bahn/Bus is a dream.

If you go a little south to Long Island it’s still called “rail road” 2 words, which is the oldest way to say it

We have the New Jersey transit system that connects quite a few New Jersey cities up to nyc. It’s quite helpful! Amtrak runs on the same tracks and connect you to Washington DC and Boston

Maybe I'll review that next 👀

Quite a few US cities have good commuter rail systems. Where the system really breaks down is covering middle distances between cities outside the Northeast Corridor. You should be able to take a train from Chicago to Madison, WI, but you can't. The train from Chicago to Indianapolis doesn't run every day. Boosting this middle distance service would be really beneficial.

ah, I love the Metro North Railroad, a lot of really fond memories in both taking it and experiences I've had in NYC ❤

It's possible to put together an itinerary from Massachusetts to Virginia almost entirely on commuter trains. The only gaps are from Providence to New London and Newark, Delaware to Perryville, Maryland. Amtrak is available between Providence and New London, but only option in Delaware and Maryland may be limited time consuming transit buses via Elkton, Maryland.

All close cities don't have them for the same reason that you got a row to yourself.

I think he got a row to himself because he wasn't traveling during rush hour.
