My swimming coach left me because I was too afraid of the water

I am so happy to find your channel Joe and instantly subscribed, Feels like this is just what i need as i have just started by swimming lessons in my 30's. i have problems to stand up underwater while free float ,when i try to tuck my legs to my chest , i sink and my leg floats back close to the surface and the droning stress creeps in. After seeing ur other videos, i will try these steps- lift my head up, bring my hand down close to the body, tuck my legs to the chest, push the leg down to stand up, Joe , please let me know What should be the ideal level of water when i stand in a pool so it does not drown me

Hi, if you are just starting out you should be in a comfortable depth where you can stand with your shoulder out of the water

I only started learning at age 54, now nearly 56 I am sorry I didn't start earlier....it is such a great exercise and gives a lot of enjoyment 😊😊

Hi Joe, I just subscribed, here’s my story, I had a chance to take swimming in school but I was afraid & a bit allergic to chlorine so I give myself an excuse to learn later, now at 23, I feel very embarrassed that I don’t know how to swim, my dad said he can try to teach me in his back yard (I just graduated & I live with a roommate in very crowded NYC) my parent’s yard can only fit a 15ft pool (realistically 13ft(396cm) at the top), will it be long enough to learn the basics & easier swimming strokes? I’m 168-170cm by the way, any help would be appreciated, thank you, 🙏❤ also, it’s not only embarrassment that prevents me from finding an instructor, I actually had a bad experience with one when I was 7, he didn’t explain how our bodies react in water, only telling us to do this & do that, I was a child that always question why things happen but I kept quiet because he didn’t seem that friendly, he was also a very impatient man , if I did something wrong, he didn’t say anything but he had a look of disappointed on his face, I just felt bad vibes from him, saw him twice & never went back, a few years after, I learned how the body works in water from watching KZfaq, but I didn’t have the courage to put it into practice until now 😢

My experience is terrible…I’m not able to stay afloat, my legs seems to be stuck and will not paddle correctly…my breathing is definitely off…this is my third class😢. I’m 47 😢😢😢 Do you train in the United States 🇺🇸, if do where? You’re present the information in such simple ways.

Ive started at39 when i stareded i get upset icouldnot do easiet things of training😩but after some sessions suprisely l learn bicycle freestyly and l am improve my back stroke and breast stroke and also lve scared of swimming in middle deep pool l hope ive don it soon🙃

Sorry 4 long comment, if u forgot my question, is a 15ft pool (really 13ft(396cm) at the top) enough to learn basics & some swimming strokes? I’m 170cm, thanks🙏❤

Hi, thanks for your comments. I think any pool is a good start to learn swimming. In your case I would recommend you to get a swimming chord. It's a stretchable cord that can tie around your waist and the other end hook it at one end of the pool. You can practice swimming as if you are swimming endlessly. Don't let you past get to you. Try to find another coach that you are comfortable to work with. Never too late to learn swimming.
