It's honestly not that hard to do. I'm just not sure why he used Android to do it. There are far easier, and more efficient ways to emulate on the Switch. Including running your ps4 and pc games.

You might have already learned this since this video was published, but Hekate can be configured to auto-boot into RCM so you don't have to screw around with the jig and payload injection anymore. And with Atmosphere installed, you can use the Switch-native port of RetroArch.

Oh my sweet summer child, there is so much more out there and you just scratched the surface. The fact you commented on all the people that tell you to mod your Switch for emulation and you finally did it is funny in itself. Points I am sure others made. You can run Auto-RCM so no need for the jig every time. Without hardware modding you will ALWAYS have to inject on boot, it is how the exploit works. You can also inject from you cell phone though. RetroArch for Horizon (Switch OS) supports the controllers properly but Android emulation is faster. A newer version of SwitchRoot exists but you need to dig for it, it isn't in the XDA post. I use to use Android as well for my Switch pretty much only for SteamLink/Parsec. I since got a NVidia GPU in my gaming PC and there is a Homebrew version of Moonlight for Horizon. Not needing Android is so nice but not everything is available on Horizon.

Been running retroarch on custom firmware since I bought my switch, none of the problems he described are problems. UI is smooth as butter, joycons work as normal, use joystick or dpad with any games. Even N64 works now and it's surprisingly smooth with most games I've tried.

I think you can get Lakka for the switch, which should be less of a pain to setup ! Also, you never stop being surprised by GBA's amazing spritework. The original console did it no justice ! (except for the few early Nintendo games that used brighter colors to compensate for the GBA non-SP lack of backlighting such as Super Mario Advance 4...)

You need to install the driver every time you want to payload with TegraRCM. Linux way requires only 1 command. The Android 9 version fixes the joycon issues(analog sticks are analog, controllers work docked without bluetooth), but it's not official released yet. You can build it yourself. It's pretty easy since people made tools to automate the process Even in beta it works 1000000x better.

The thing about injectors, is that they have a rechargeable battery. There's a lot of culprits as to why it might not work, but the most likely is that the battery died. and you have to charge it before it will work again.

I really hope this gets worked on some more. If the OS can get better optimized, and it no longer needs to be tethered to boot into android, this will be amazing. I have no doubt both of these things can be accomplished considering how many devices can have android flashed to them flawlessly. I really wanted to do this to play PSP titles without having to pay for a new psp and games, but I guess I'll have to wait a while to be able to do that and not be annoyed. Theres amazing potential here though.

You can get past shorting the pin every time you reboot (with AutoRCM) but as far as I know you still have to inject a payload until we get a full custom firmware that can run in a sandbox.

For anyone reading this, you should run a switch focused Linux build instead of android, they're more optimized and emulators tend to run better, that's how people run Dolphin emulator (GameCube) on the switch

PSA: please if you’re going to mod your switch please do not follow a video guide. Those videos become outdated really fast and the uploader may use download links that may contain malware. Use guides on gbatemp if you want to mod your switch.

Honestly from experience. All of the emulators he tried in android work significantly better when run on a switch homebrew rather than android. If you're interested, give it a shot. Then you don't have to boot back and forth, you can simply just say booted into one operating system. In this way, the switch is absolutely one of the best portable emulation systems out there.

Retroarch runs A LOT better via custom firmware (OS) Even Geforce Now or Steamlink can run directly from it. I can run games like gta vice city in 1080p 60fps in retroach on atmosphere ;) Or play gta 5 too via Geforce now ^^ the joycons also work perfectly. And if you use a virtual nand on the sd card and a fake serial number it's as safe as running Android ^^

Don't fake a serial number(don't use incognito), all it takes is for Nintendo to change their telemetry algorithm and they can easily find out who you are. You're better off using 90DNS in your EmuMMC as you're blocking Nintendo through your internet connection.

I did it primarily to smoothen framerates via slight cpu overclocking, use themes and listen to music/ use Discord while playing on the System.

Just a heads up from the video to anyone who might read this NEVER and I mean NEVER use a video tutorial when it comes to hacking and the like as they get outdated hella fast and that can potentially be dangerous always use written guides that are updated. Also the RCM Loader didn't work as it was in SX OS mode so looking for a boot.dat file on the Micro SD hence the error message, you need to hold I believe the left button on the RCM Loader until it flashes Blue to put it into Atmosphere/Hekate mode and you should be good.

Michael Coombes I’m surprised wolf just didn’t run atmosphere and use homebrew AppStore and download retro arch... Retro Arch may not have the most accurate cores but it would have more FPS running on cfw than android. Also there few emulators on the homebrew store that aren’t retro arch. They may perform better than retro arch? Who knows.

Orlandohunter Android is cool and all but it’s not ready for the Nintendo switch. Keep in mind first generation switches have terrible battery life. You don’t want to be running at 80% cpu at the home screen of android... The joy cons don’t send data via physical connection and when they joy cons do work they read joy sticks terribly... one of the whole points of this video is to play games but if you have bad battery life, poor network connections, poor control input, and crashes often... that’s not the best gaming experience. Running atmosphere would overall be better because everything still works and there no need for a work around.

I’m at 8:00 and two things are funny! First, RetroArch has an official CFW Switch Port, he should have used it instead of Android. Second, Android is now well optimised as heck, and for Gamecube games, you can install Lakka which is an other way of emulating Gamecube (other than RetroArch Switch/Android).

Run retroarch on the native switch horizon os instead of linux and you’ll have a better experience. Especially with controls and launching games. N64 runs goldeneye perfect now using the new glide update from m4xw’s patreon

MrSco Agree, Wolf should have done a little more research on Nintendo switch homebrew/Custom firmware community. He could have skipped the whole unsupported and laggy android OS and just ran retro arch on the Nintendo switch CFW...

Tbh the rule to get good emulators on curent gen systems is wait until the end. Because most of the bugs are worked out snd the company does not care at that point

I still think the best EASY portable retro machine is the PSP, and many people watching this channel probably already have one laying around. The soft mod is just a really small file, it takes about 5 minutes to learn, seconds to launch, and it's easily reversible by completely powering down the PSP. The PSP natively plays PS1 ROMs. Emulators can play many N64 games well (with some settings tweaks), and anything I've tried through the 4th generation feels flawless. You can get a PSP component cable for like $5-10 at your local retro store to connect it to you TV, or I've seen a PSP HDMI cable on Amazon for $30. Also for only like $5 on Amazon, you can get a memory card adapter to use MicroSD cards and have as much storage as you want for cheap! If you already have a PSP and haven't soft modded it yet, what are you waiting for?

heh, I didn't think the payload injector was that hard to use... Maybe I should make a tutorial then on how to set it up... Not today though but maybe later. Also yes bob you will always need a payload for the original switch. The payload is what boots the hack. It's the same as running an unlocked bootloader on your android phone just the switch needs a little help to get there.

He got sx os boot.dat screen so he clearly forgot to hold the + button on the rcm loader to change to a different payload

@@CalizpzZ0 well it's not that he forgot its more it probs didn't come with many instructions in the first place. If you replace the payload.bin file with the android one naming it payload.bin and placing it in the SXOS folder then when the led is read then it would now boot the android payload.bin you placed in there... 1 - Blue - ATMOSPHERE_HEKATE 2 - Green - REINX 3 - Red - SXOS 4 - Yellow - USER1 5 - Magenta - USER2 6 - Cyan - USER3 single press of + button shows what payload its on. Press and hold changes payload. Flashing wight means flat or charging Soled wight means charged. I don't think bob will ever read this so that was probs pointless..

It's possible to use an Android phone to eliminate the whole "need the windows PC" problem. It's what i use and i have no problems whatsoever. It definitely helps when you're on the go. The app is called RCM Loader. You (of course) would just a need a cable to connect your switch to your phone. For me, it's a USB type-C to USB type-C. Note: You'll still need the same .bin file you would use on your PC on your Android (Literally just put the file on your phone, that's it)

i hacked my switch basically the moment i got it, if i hadnt it would be basically dust by now, hacking it allows adds ALOT of new stuff, aslong as your smart and careful you wont harm your switch and i really recommend you do it.

Probably didn't want to boot custom firmware. I would still boot Lakka over android for retroarch but I guess he wanted to stream to his console too without booting cfw so android makes sense

Also, as an update, both JoyCon controllers finally work "wired" on the rail and with both analog sticks. It needs dumping the identifier codes of the controllers while they're plugged in while in the Hekate launcher, but it only needs to be done once and you're done

you need to change the menu style to XMB!!! "Settings > Driver > Menu > XMB" for the PS3 menu look. You can also try clicking the digital to anolog option under Settings > Input. Make sure you "Save Configuration" or changes will only work until you close the app. Happy Emulating!

Looks like your injector is set to SXOS, press the + button until you see a blue light, this will choose the proper payload to boot into hekate. cheers!

The injector is so easy to use. Push and hold button to change colors (folders) of loaders. Then simply plug it in.

They can't detect the exploit itself, BUT if Nintendo wanted they could detect the erroneous files to see if they are designed to be ran via the exploit and ban based on that
