Ex-cabin crew and aviation geek here. I love your videos and thank you for this very unique one! I saw (and recognized the sound of) this aircraft in Lisbon many times, as it happens to be one of the very few long-haul aircrafts at this airport and probably the unique 777, which were my office for more than a decade and their sound is quite distinctive to my ears. Answers to your questions : not-so-commonly used airline, does TN or HA count? (would love to see your review on them), domestic? Iran Air, Air KBZ, Air Rarotonga, VT, IndiGo, China Airlines, GOL... and many defunct ones (America West, Air Micronesia, Northwest, Continental, Tower Air, Japan Air System, AOM, Air Inter, Air Europe, Siem Reap Airways, Swissair, Jet Airways...) bad rep ones PIA , Garuda & Air India back in the day, Garuda was scary but PIA gave me the vocation for this job. Middle seats are terrible and don't belong in business class. I saw Taag's 747 many times in Paris perhaps 10-15 years ago. That must be the jumbo you're talking about. I have indeed never seen another 777-300 amongst African carriers than TAAG's. KQ flew the -200 to London not long ago. I remember seeing TAAG's crew uniform in Rio, I liked it very much, the grey bag and shoes were a nice elegant touch to an otherwise exciting splash of original brighter colours (rare these days and the result was/is a success in my view), but it seems either different or that they constantly wear an apron in your video. I find the product below expectations. As for the crew, you know it's a Russian roulette, trust me, regardless of the airline.

Angolan here, great review but just to add a few things here. TAAG was completely banned from flying into Europe in 2006 and it was partially lifted to only being able to fly into Portugal with strictly their 777 and 737-700. That banned was eased to being able to fly to the entire European continent in 2014 but all TAAG flew since 2014 were 777s and 737-700 so they can practically fly their entire fleet into Europe. In 2016 the Angolan government contracted Emirates to run TAAG and they did so till 2018 when they pulled the plug due to Emirates having issues of their own. As of February 2019 TAAG is no longer banned in any form from flying into the EU. The Angolan government has also been having discussions with Boeing about ordering 6 787-9, 2 787-10, 6 737-8MAX and 2 737-9MAX. Also Angola has a new Airport under construction which is dubbed to be Africa's biggest. Currently it is due to open in 2022. (UPDATE) The IMF blocked the order, said our public debt will be way too high. We might be stuck with this fleet for awhile, meanwhile we orded 6 Q400's.

Hello Josh i’m late to give a review of your experience flying with TAAG. But i’m also a very suspect reviewer since I am a pilot for TAAG 😂. Any way, i’ve enjoyed your review, and it sums up preaty much what the company is. Since your flight TAAG as been cleared from the european ban, but the quality of the product didn’t emproved much, because, as you must know, we are a goverment owned company and right now the country its “flying” in a big recession. So there asn’t been much investment in the company or it’s service, wich is a shame, because as an angolan, I know we have a lot to give, and to trade from various experiences. The company as, also, beeing turned in to a share company, so we expect by the midle of next year, be sold to a best buyer. Turns out that, the company is one of the companies in the world’s with the most lucrative route (LAD/LIS), and had the first female captain on a B777 in África. We just hope that in the next few years we can achive a better performance, and I would be very please to invite you to fly with us again, if the recession don’t makes desappear. Fingers crossed. Big hugs and keep up with the good work. (Sorry for my mistakes in typing)

Hey Josh... it’s a common practice in some SE Asia carriers to leave the food wrapper on, so as to give the impression of hygiene and convey that the food has not been touched by the crew... some people prefer it to be that way.

Hi Josh, great review. I'm Angolan and have been travelling with TAAG for around 30years. I hope more bloggers and KZfaqrs keep making reviews on TAAG so the company makes a bigger effort to grow and evolve to become a top African carrier. TAAG already has a great pilot crew, you should also talk about that.

I think you'll find the first African 777 was with Egyptair in 1997, then Kenya Airways was seciy in 2004 and TAAG third in 2006. I think Ethiopian was the fourth in 2010. Delighted to also see Air Zimbabwe is about to join that club soon (there's a future video id love to see).

@@mafiaboy87 the story behind them is intriguing. They were originally intended for Air Zimbabwe after Mugabe visited Malaysia and agreed the sale with the Malaysian Prime Minister. Then the president's son in law (an ex QR first officer pretending to be a captain) was made the boss of Airzim and he corruptly plotted to create his own airline called Zimbabwe Airways using Airzim's resources. So the 777s were secretly painted in that livery. Now Mugabe has been evicted the new govt wants to undo the corruption he did and they're sending the planes back into Air Zimbabwe ownership. I'd be interested to know if they are still in Zimbabwe Airways livery or have they been repainted into the Air Zimbabwe scheme?

Kilimanjaro on an East African Airways F27 flight from Nairobi to Arusha. I doubt that I would want to fly on TAAG Business class unless it were free and I don't think that will happen. Very enjoyable video, well done my friend. Would I fly TAAG? Yeah I’d give it a go. I flew Air Koryo many years ago on an Ilyushin Il18, and a couple of years before that on another Il18 operated by the old East German airline Interflug. Neither of the journeys were unpleasant, just different, and both those airlines delivered me safely to where I wanted to go. An open mind is essential to global travel, if you don’t have one then it’s probably best to stay at home.

The staff is mostly rude (you can have luck sometimes and have a nice one), the aircrafts are poorly maintained (you flew on the new one) and Luanda airport was always hot and a pain! Customer service is not a thing in Angola and you can tell by their airline. I hope that this one day change, because Angola is a gorgeous country.

I have become addicted to Josh's posts here. HE sooo handsome. I think I am in love. The dimples kill me. I noticed a pattern though - when he is seated, he is like the first there and sometimes he gives us a tour of the cabin when it is empty. So they must give him permission and then know he is a journalist or something. PLUS he always sais " I hope no one sits next to me" and then the seat is ALWAYS empty. Its seems the odds of this are slim. It is definitely a treat when the seat is empty but how does it always workout in his favor?

May I be frank? The food you were served seemed typical of what is usually served on American domestic flights for business class.
@kriss3535

Danielle Rush presentation and plating was definitely basic but I have to agree the amount of food served was typical to what you get to most western airlines flying international. Never underestimate the power of food presentation/plating.
@ballyhigh11

Which means you're comparing apples with oranges. This was on an intercontinental business class flight. The food looked atrocious and its presentation would shame the economy class of any half decent carrier.

@@ballyhigh11 I've traveled to Luanda with TAP(from Portugal), KLM, and Air France. Their service is no better than Taag's. In fact the food at KLM is rubish and the remaining carriers are average. And I actually enjoyed flying with Taag and the food was good. I think you're being a bit unfair...
