I have an 07 that I bought several years ago and am now floating near 300k miles with stock valve and drivetrains. It is tuned as well as the trans but although she’s starting to rust in the normal tahoe spots, she’s still more reliable and valuable to me than my 2011 Mercedes e350. The tahoe line has it’s flaws but man they are damn good trucks, I can’t justify replacing mine.

I’d start with the quickest and easiest diag of using a dmm on the blend door motor connector to see if you are getting the signal from the hvac unit when the recirc button is pressed. It’ll cut the system in half to start looking at wiring and triggers to the motor or to know if it is a mechanical out of limit issue from the blend door seal defeating and causing it to move further than expected.

I am glad to see that you are sticking with the up keep on your truck. I had a 03 Escalade I loved with my heart but it was breaking all the time. I bought it for 6k w/128k and poured in over 7k in repairs over the past 4 years. Sold it with it with at least 3k worth of work it still needed. Literally everything was breaking.

I went in from the bottom on mine and it was way easier. Didn't have to remove the airbag or the dash top.

I had the same issue with my rear ac controls. I had the temp door not moving. I got a replacement from o’Reilly’s and it done exactly what you described. They had multiple different part numbers for what looked to be the same part and I tried 4 until I found one that operated correctly. There’s very minor differences with them motors internals.

Matt, I'm back in a suburban after trading my Yukon xl and I missed these trucks. I have a code reader you definitely need to pick up. It's the Innova 5510 at advance. It was on sale and there's a coupon code on their site. I paid 187$ for it and it's the best code reader you can buy short of the high end ones. It scans every module in your vehicles and it scans HVAC and door modules and all that stuff on my 04 Suburban. I've had tons of code readers but this one for the money you can't beat it. I changed my rear hatch struts about three months ago with oem struts, cost me $27 cdn each with my 10 percent discount. I’m surprised you didn’t put a little grease on the ball and socket for better lube and action. It worked fine for me. Looking awesome👍🏻🇨🇦

250k miles in mine and it's really starting to fall apart, just swapped the 4l80e and rebuilt the rear end with 4.10 gears and posi diff. Fix one thing and two things break before I can catch up

A wire leading to the recirculation door harness may have been cut or worn 9ver time by a sharp edge in the dash, a common issue I ran into on my old suburban. Try using a multimeter to determine if all prongs in the harness are getting current.

with the blend door the foam seal around the door might have eroded away making the door close farther than it was programed to do. GM never programed in to compensate any leeway to these doors everything has to be perfect.

After you service the hvac , replace parts etc you have to re calibrate the system. Easy to do, lots of videos on it

It’s normally the hvac control unit, it glitches out and maxes the blend door motors beyond their limits for some reason and ruins them. Happened to the rear hvac controls on my 03 Yukon, it maxed out the temp control blend door motor. I replaced just the blend door motor and left the old hvac computer, it maxed it out again and ruined it. I replaced the blend door motor again and the hvac unit, and it works perfectly now. If you do replace the control unit do not buy a used one from a junkyard it most likely has the same glitch in it, definitely get a new unit from dorman etc. The new control units have the glitches programmed out.

Hey Matt glad you're back! I know your pain with the vent doors not working properly. I had a similar issue with mine except it would make a popping noise for exactly 30 seconds at each turn on. I did some experimenting with the standard recalibration steps and found a way to get it working again although my dumbass didn't write down how exactly I did it. So maybe try playing around with the fuse-pulling pattern, timing, etc. and maybe this will work? Best of luck to you, I'm literally scared to disconnect my battery now!!!

I've had to replace two of my blend door motors. Fortunately, they were the two easy ones. Drivers side, behind radio. Passenger side, foot well.

I'm about to hit mines 200k mile anniversary. Just drove to Grand Canyon to Phoenix Arizona from Los Angeles. Been thinking about taking her cross country to Georgia. My most recent jobs have been. Replacing the winshield washer fluid tank, shocks and struts, ball joints, lower control arms, window actuator for both front doors, and the Ac Control module. The Ac module glitches even brand new same as the one before and it drives me crazy. My brakes likes might be next because I just changed the fluid in them and already going bad.

I have had many of these trucks 04-07 silverados, Escalade and Tahoes, generally it is the actual electronic control panel. The light may come on but the pcb inside isn’t sending a signal to actuate the motors. Hope this helps and good luck

South main auto did a video on a vehicle same issue it sounds like its going past its limit and seeting a hard fault may need to glue new foam around the door

Taking the dash bezel off countless times before. YES , almost every GMT800 owner for a longer length of time would agree with that! I do love how easy it is to remove and change out dash components.

So - if my door is exactly like yours it's stuck on non recirculation? I guess I can live with that as I don't live in a very hot climate. Unless there is an easy fix. I suspect the foam weather stripping has worn away and the door is over traveling and setting a dtc. Since you have yours all apart, you can drill a hole in your actuator and put a small machine screw and nut to serve as a new stop and keep the actuator from over traveling. For others like me if we can find some way to put a stop on the door to keep it from closing that last 1/16 of an inch it should solve it.

the heater control unit has a glitch in the a/c recirc mode mine did the same thing on my 03 silverado changed the hvac control unit and it solved the issue then a week later the recirc motor went out ! by the way brians mobile one has the most effective way to change that motor quick easy and effective !!!!

If someone did repop those dash panels they would have gold on their hands. It seems that that is one thing no matter the year of truck that is not made. That is why there are so many videos on how to repair them. Maybe someone can acquire the tooling to reproduce them in the future.

I miss how easy this era of vehicles was to work on. I had a 2000 Silverado that I did a bunch of exterior mods to, and everything was so simple!

Matt, it might be related to the ambient temp vs set temp. If the "heater" is on, it might default to fresh air intake only. Try setting the temperature on the AC to as low as it will go and see if it will go into re-circulate.

Like most problems you encounter, you know you are going to win, but you just do not know how long it will take! :)

I’ve got a similar problem with my 03 Avalanche A/C button, light works for it and says it’s on. Swapped Hvac modules, checked for broke/pinched wires but found nothing. Doesn’t send signal to the compressor but I can manually trip the relay and it works. I work for you GM and have narrowed it down to possible underhood fuse block.

I thought you had Cadillac pillar covers. I have Cadillac pillars on my tahoe sprayed gloss black and I have a led light strip in side each one hooked up to my brake lights so when i brake they light up

This is one time where the original Wiring Diagrams will answer many questions. There is no replacement for the correct information. If it's anything like a Ford EATC climate control system's Blend Door Actuator, it's a reversing DC motor with a Potentiometer for position feedback to the Control Box. Mazda used the exact same setup on the Eunos Cosmo (Japan only) for all of its HVAC motors. I would wager that it is a harness issue, either 12v+ or Ground being incorrectly fed into the system so it knee-jerks to Fresh Air and won't budge otherwise. The nice thing is that you can bench test each component before digging into it again.

I have a 2007 chevy avalanche and since I bought it 4 years ago my air hasn't worked, just changed my BM resistor and didn't fox it. . Took the BM out to check if the motor was actually working and it was. I've been told it could be the blend door actuator, the mode door actuator, and the recirculation door actuator. I just started working on my own vehicles this year to save monwy due to my first kid so my knowledge and ability to diagnose the problem is rough, any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. The day I found your channel....same heater hose broke in the same location. I was with my 11 year old trying to go see a movie..had to spend 5 hours walking to and from a NAPA auto and fixing the damn thing.

Wowza...guess I'm not changing my recirculation actuator 😆. Mine also been out since I got my truck, same thing light turns on but can't hear any difference in air or door open/closing.

I have a 2004 suburban and every once in a while I reprogram the blend doors as well. Does anyone else have the issue where the rear A/C doesn't work unless the front A/C is also on, just curious if thats the way it's suppose to be or if there is something wrong with mine? I already did all the upgrades on it from next generation front bigger brakes, to E-fan conversion with oem harness, transgo HD shift kit, added big trans cooler. Also installed new power steering pump and steering box, rebuilt front end, new fuel pump, hoses, belt, spark plugs and wires, serviced all fluids and filters, installed bilstein 5100 series shocks and new rear springs and more. It has a little over 200k on it and still runs strong, this truck is now ready for another 100k. I love this truck and don't think I will ever get rid of it.

I ran into the same problem with recirc on 2002 Serria after I did the efan conversion (thx for the great video on that). Doubt that it is the same problem for you because of the year difference but look into that if all else fails! Good luck and let us know what the fix is.

I just did the gas struts on the rear door, after the 2nd time I hit my head on the door dropping the 20 bucks was well spent.

Hey so i have a 04 z71 suburban and my trans when out & i found a good deal on one from a tahoe everything seems to be identical however the torque converter is different.. can i just use my old torque converter or will that affect the transmission

My 04 tahoe by default when I turn the car on it automatically let's fresh air through i have to hit the recirculate button to stop air from outside from coming in.

A bit off topic but haven’t seen the solution to a difficult to diagnose noise with my fake Trailblazer(a 97x) on any channels. Clicking popping sound in front end nearly every part replaced. The culprit? A cracked tranny mount. Thank you for your channel. And I can see my rear window struts at 290k miles are in need of replacement 🤣

I have a 04 tahoe z71 same color as yours and even have ko2s on 18in 2018 Silverado rims and I have almost the same issues I’ve done the blend door actuator on mine and on the driver side it was blowing cold only and all the other vents hot then I replaced it and now it blows hot always on driver and all the others change fine what do you think the issue is?!
