Here are my thoughts on the Tesla model Y after owning it for 5 months! Now this car is amazing, so don't get me wrong about some of the negatives that I point out here in this tesla model y video. Tesla has done a lot of things right, but there are still a few things they could improve on.

Hi Cody, Excellent video, well balanced with pros and cons. I own a 2021 model 3 LR . I had to drop it off for service and they lent me a 2020 model Y std. I am very impressed with the extra room and higher ride position, but one thing that put me off is the road noise coming from the tires on the Highway. I seriously thought there was something wrong with it. I don't think i could handle it on a daily basis. It wasn't the Performance model, just std range on 20 in rims. Our M3 on 18 in OEM rides a lot better and is quieter. Hopefully they can improve on this in the next couple years which is when we would like to trade up to a Y.

A fair review like this helps more than a fanboy review. This could help people with their optioning choices and manage expectations. Glove compartment is a small fail & a gimmick, your hand has to be able to reach it to use it anyway. There should be a 2nd screen behind steering wheel. I think some voice commands could be a pain with children in the car. "Hey Mercedes" looks super annoying.

120V is far from enough. I use the Tesla Wall Connector, and it is awesome. Average is 11.5 kWh. I used a 120V outlet once, while at a camping site overnight. I didn’t yet have a TT-30 connector, so the 120V served to just keep the car from draining while using Camp Mode overnight.

To each their own but for me the bumpy ride makes a big difference when you're paying 70+ k for a car. The dang ride should be smooth as butter which it is ... as long as its on a flat road/freeway. I transitioned from a Toyota Highlander to the Model Y and while the Highlander wasn't the smoothest of rides I could feel the road ALOT less on the toyota. A friend has the model X and when I drive her car its nite and day with regards to the suspension but its substantial difference in price tag.

I can, and always have been able to, run the AC on both upper and lower at the same time, so either user error or you need to get it serviced. Maybe a reset would help as it seems like you've never done that before based on not knowing how to reset with the no connectivity issue. For the glovebox, just hit the right scroll button and say open glovebox...same voice controls work for nearly everything you'd need to do on the screen while driving. Even adjusting the AC.

Greedy UK government trying to eat their cake and have it. They’ve always over relied on excessive fuel taxes from motorists, to shore up the finance coffers. Did you know UK motorists are taxed TWICE for each fuel fill up? They’re heavily taxed on the price of fuel; they pay £0.579 fuel duty per litre of fuel, and then the total amount per litre is taxed again at 20.7p (value added tax). Blatantly shameless rip off. They’ve lost so much income tax on electric vehicles and hybrids, so now they’re trying to claw it back with cynically punitive financial penalties for buying an expensive zero emission vehicle - pure and unbridled stupidity if you ask me!

Just for the sake of comparison, I had to pay $2800 for the charging system I have here (Norway), granted it is a 400V system. but still, What's eating up your savings is buying a car for 67k, not paying $400 for an upgraded charging system :P

The model Y costs over 90k in Canada now. The model 3 is around 70k for the standard RWD. These cars are ridiculously priced these days. The cars themselves are not even CLOSE to that cost. The model 3 is closer to a 30 or 40k vehicle. At a 70k budget, I would rather buy an Ionic 5. You get more bang for your buck with that and unlike the Model 3, is a properly well designed vehicle with good quality materials and build. The ride is way better too. You even get more tech than a Tesla, which surprised me.

Great video, Cody. Ill be getting a Y next year and I’ll put all your info to good use. As a TSLA enthusiast and investor, I’m starting to get a little concerned with what I’ve seen with the new FSD version. Great in some instances, very shaky in others. Autonomy is a big part of the investing thesis for Tesla, so the less-than-stellar launch (my perception) of the new FSD program is something to be concerned about. It will be interesting to see what you think when you get the update.

Thanks for watching! I think it still has a long way to go, to be entirely safe. I've noticed that the car definitely errs on the side of safety when it probably doesn't need too. (can't blame it, given regulations and new technology) I personally think it will be at least another 2-4 years before we see FSD at the level you'd expect of a "normal" driver over a period of thousands of miles.

I wouldn't call it a "launch" of their FSD program. This is just adding customers into their testing program to help accelerate the development. By the time the software is ready for a proper 'launch' they'll be rolling out robotaxis.

How does that help customers that suffered with bad 4G?

@@DerekDavis213 Tesla has pivoted to alternative components wherever possible in the past ~2 years based on supply constraints. Their team can write new firmware for a different type chip or modem to take advantage of model availability instead of waiting on logic chips or components like an IC642. Similar components are the gate for Ford and why they’ve had to park thousands of Bronsos or sell to customers without key features. With pivoting to a different modem comes some consequences because the alternates might not perform as well.

@@DerekDavis213 I’m talking specifically about modems, per my original comment… I’ve experienced several issues with my Tesla, but like most owners I love the car. Kinda like all my friends that own F-150’s or Jeeps. Those things break all the damn time, but the owners love them. Friend just had to pay $1,500 to replace a fuel injector on his Raptor that has 16k miles. Dude loves the car. Cars have issues, unless it’s my Toyota Tacoma with 340k miles on it. That thing is a tank.

@@nickc.70 Does an F-150 or Jeep cost $55 k to $70k? That's the difference. Supercharging the Tesla is a hassle and a waste of time, the car has poor paint job and fit-and-finish, it has no dashboard - just a big iPad screen. Also a rough ride, Full Self Driving is YEARS late and still nowhere near ready, and many people can't even unlock the car with their phones! wtf? If you spend $50K on a Toyota or Honda gasoline car, you will get a much more polished and high quality product.

I took delivery of my 23 Model Y LR May 11th Midnight Silver Metallic and have not looked back...The car is plenty fast and handles like a sports car. After watching many videos about inspecting the car before taking delivery it passed my vigorous inspection with no issues. I went with 19 inch Gemini wheels and purchased after market wheel covers that look as good as Uber Turbines. I paid $54K out the door not including the $7500 rebate. I traded in my 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and got only $900 less than what I paid in 2020. This purchase was almost a no brainer for me. I was very fortunate and everything aligned perfectly for me. Do yourself a favor and buy a roof shade and screen protector (I did). It gets f-ing hot in there with the sun beating down. The only issues I have had are the auto pilot glitch-wipers change to auto mode when auto pilot is engaged and the wipers then activate randomly-a firmware update is supposed to solve this problem soon. The other issue is a rattle from the rear view mirror assembly. I have a service request in to fix it. I charge at home with standard outlet and it is fine for around town. I work from home so no prob there. Took it on a 2600 plus mile road trip and it performed almost flawlessly. One of the hotels even had a Tesla branded charger-free! ;-) You do have to be careful of curb rash. The ride is pretty stiff even with 19's. Not any more stiff than my Mini Cooper, but noticeably stiffer than my 2020 RAV 4 Hybrid. I don't mind it a bit. I find most of the criticisms here would not have dissuaded me from going forward. Test drive one for yourself and do your homework. Battery tech is improving and higher range EVs may be on the horizon. I have no regrets after 2.5 month of ownership.
