Jay Buchanan of Rival Sons is quite simply the best vocalist around at this moment in time. Seen Rival Sons live a few times now and he’s incredible. In fact I’d go as far as to say he’s the best I’ve ever heard. Long live Rival Sons. The first time I ever heard him sing I described his as like Paul Rodgers but better. My mates thought I was mad until they heard him.

I literally only discovered em like a year ago and have been non stop obsessed ever since. I recommended them here on Justin’s dirty honey video, not sure if that’s why he reacted to them but I preach them everywhere. Truly the best rock band I’ve ever heard

Jay Buchanan is one of my favorite vocalists today, a long with Justin, of course. Rival Sons are so good. Their last album was amazing, and I can't wait for the new one. You should definitely check out their discography. So many great songs.

Hands down the greatest rock n roll band for the last 12 years. Mature, meaningful lyrics that speak to your soul. Can never say enough about Rival Sons and how they have gotten me through some rough times.

Absolutely love this band. Everything they do is just top quality. If you like this video it ties in directly to the video for their last single called Nobody Wants To Die, highly recommend. By the way that is the guitarists son riding the bike in this video.

This band are INCREDIBLE, and you've missed out if you haven't caught them. Black Sabbath picked them up a few years ago and they toured with them. Deserve all the accolades, amazing band. Xx

Heard Soundgarden straight away but had to rack my brain for what else I was hearing, it’s Stone Temple Pilots, and a hint of Powderfinger’s Sunsets. Gorgeous voice, great sounds.

I’ve been following them almost 10 years. They are superb due to their writing and the wonderful vocalizations of the lead singer Jay Buchanan. He blows me away.

Now that you said Soundgarden: yes! It sounds similar and then it is something else, too! They have amazing albums, songs! I recommend: Where I've Been, Feral Roots, Look Away, Only One, Face Of Light, Pretty Face, Keep On Swinging, Until The Sun Comes Up, Pressure & Time, Jordan, Belle Star, Manifest Destiny Pt.2, Tell Me Something, Angel, Soul, Radio and Torture 😉

@@thelostmarbles4310 this is pretty good! I like the harmonies. The harpsichord sounds gave it a nice 60s vibe. The only thing I would have probably added (and this is just me) is some kind of melodic hook or line on the guitar as a setup for the verses. Otherwise that's a solid effort! (and I liked the uptempo change near the end!)

Yes, that's what singers sound like... "when they can actually sing". No autotune crutch required. Can't believe you've never heard of Rival Sons. Want to have your mind really blown, check out their earlier stuff; "Pressure and Time", "Face of Light", and "Keep on Swinging", just to list a few. Incredible band.

Guys are awesome. I am an older 50's dude now, but i really been digging Rival Sons for last few years. Sort of classic, traditional but good current vibe too. Incredible vocals, he almost has some great soul influence in other songs incredible range Great rock voice. Great writing and hooks and guitar player does interesting type things almost gets that black keys thick guitar sound a lot but experiments too.. and sounds without being a shredder, more hook stuff..

Justin you got some catching up to do on not only on their back catalogue but there's many radio station hosted live tunes on KZfaq sometimes duo acoustic and sometime full band with amps. Been listening / watching them since first album, they're a breath of fresh air in the rock scene.

Rival Sons is the best concert experience I've ever had. Absolute 🔥. And then they all came out back after the show and met us. My son is a drummer who idolizes Miley, and he literally talked to my son about drumming, gear, how to do a good autograph, etc, for over 20 minutes. Amazing band and awesome human beings.

1.) Can’t understand how this band escaped me. 2.) In the last few minutes I left JHRA to check out a few songs, and most rock harder than this one, but I agree with J.H., this does have a Soundgarden/Cornell vibe to it! Nice! I also like the mini bike!

Yes he is. He has all of the soul Paul Rodgers has and can belt it out like a young David Coverdale, Yet has all the emotion of a Sam Cooke. The videos of just Scott and Jay with a couple acoustic guitars are proof positive the guy is the real deal and no trickery or backing tracks are needed for them to impress the snobs in the back row.

LOVE RIVAL SONS! I've been into them ever since first hearing them over 10 years ago. The first few times I drove from Cleveland to Buffalo to see them in concert a couple times and meet them. Amazing musicians. The best singer on the planet. Super cool dudes in person. Great songs, great albums, absolutely stellar and amazing live in concert. The. . . best. . . rock and roll band. . . on the planet!

I’m also getting a later STP vibe along with the Soundgarden…and some Black Keys and a touch of Black Crowes…I’m in love already after listening to a few songs!! I'd like to suggest you check out a band called "Crack The Sky" Started in the 70's and still playing out today. Big in Baltimore. I would suggest Ice, Nuclear Apathy, or Lighten Up Mcgraw for starters. Enjoy p.s. They have never gotten the recognition they deserve.

What an excellent rabbit hole to go down! I saw Rival Sons open for Black Sabbath on their 2016 tour, and they killed it. Some of my favorite RS tracks are: All the Way, Until the Sun Comes, Pressure & Time, Get Mine, Young Love, Electric Man, & Open My Eyes. Great stuff!

Ah, Rival Sons. I was a super fan from around 2010 onwards. Got to know them a little bit. We used to bring them food from the Hare Krishna temple before their gigs. They were so much fun to enjoy live. Their latest work is not as exciting to my ears but they hold a special place in my rocking heart.

I can see the 70s reference thing - the vocals have a mix of Credence and an amplified James Taylor. But spot on with the Soundgarden comparison, as that was my first thought the moment the guitars began. Def gonna check these guys out.

Been following them since Pressure and Time (coincidentally, this and Darkness albums never left my car 😆) Quite Zepplin-y back then but developed their own unique sound with every album. Miley is an incredible drummer, improvisation master. As for Buchanan...well, melts your heart one minute and then melts your face the next.

Hey Justin, great video as always! I love these videos because they expose me to a bunch of artists and bands I'd never have found on my own. I mostly listen to Japanese bands, and I know you've covered a few on the channel. I think you'd really like the band "Sokoninaru" - they're a japanese progressive metal/heavy rock (I don't know for certain tbh) and I think their sound would be right up your alley. I recommend their song "Tenohira De Odoru", it's an absolute banger!

I was in a certain well known high street music store last week when a song started playing, i knew i knew the band but just couldnt think who it was so asked, it was rival sons, by the time i got home i forgot again, it took me another ten hours of going through my brains somewhat chaotic filing system trying to remember but couldnt, stopped thinking about it, 5 minutes later i remembered, im nearly 50, this kind of thing keeps happening more and more.

They’re one of the best live bands on this, or any other, planet. Jay’s vocals are just as astounding onstage. I would recommend seeing them in the UK when they next tour there.
