Hi Mitch. I am English and a massive Tom fan so was gutted wen he didn't get 3 in a row. However I thought you were absolutely brilliant. I warned people you were the man to watch out for but I didn't expect you to win in such dominant style. I think if you want it you can be the greatest ever especially if you carry on making such fast improvements. You and Tom can bring the best out of each other and I hope you both stay in strongman at least another 5 years. At least!!!!! World's strongest man has neva been better, you are a most worthy winner Well done mitch, what a monster! Thanks

Yeah, you can argue that the stone-off format is not the most fair in terms of competition but you can't argue with the entertainment value it tends to create every year.

@@CleanfieldArvidRussian roulette with a .44 magnum would be the most entertaining option for an event to get into the Final, yet we don't do that because it's not only ridiculous (like the stone-off), we wouldn't see them again. The stone-off is just a way to include people who didn't quite make the cut to face off against the 2nd place guy and potentially upset them, just because of their stone loading ability.

It’s also difficult to apply consistency when the reasoning behind the “softness” of each is totally different. You didn’t stand up straight but had elbow locked out. Evan didn’t lock out the elbow etc. I wouldn’t even call it soft reffing, I’d call it sloppy. And I don’t think we should accept that

At least it was consistently lax, I guess. Woulda been a lot more controversial if one of them got the rep but the other didnt
@jorgeegrojful
@jorgeegrojful Жыл бұрын
consistently lax is fine for the purposes of competition, but how about deadlifting to the knees and being given the rep? would you take that as a fan? I wouldn’t. even if everyone is getting them, I think we need to have rules especially for things like records. Imagine Eddie’s 500kg deadlift was soft locked and they gave it. people would have been divided over it. soft reffing (esp on records) leads to controversy and we want a good clean (in terms of drama not peds) sport with no favoritisms or judging/rules drama

@@sagebauer1077 but being lax takes away from the guys who actually were technically strict, like Pavlo and Novikov. They weren’t sloppy and didn’t get sloppy calls, whereas other guys were sloppy and got sloppy calls. Not fair imo.

The very first time I saw you compete at Rogue, where you got 3rd, I had this feeling you would win WSM, or at least be in the top 5. That is so awesome you won 1st! It makes me feel like a good predictor of sporting events. Also I noticed you had a little more athletic build than some of the other strength athletes. Which is probably from your days as a distance runner. I also did distance running in my early 20s, before I really started serious strength training in my late 20s. Basically I am saying your performance at WSM has been a major inspiration to me doing regular strength training in the gym. As your training history seems a lot more like mine compared to former WSM First place winners. Plus I believe you said you only consume about 5000 calories daily. It just proves everyone is different. Great job! Very inspirational!

Well, I rooted for Brian, because last year and all, followed him for years, wanted #5 to be the way he wound up his career - but fair play to you, you did amazingly well and I'm sure Brian wouldn't want to win anyway unless you were giving it your all so I can't fault you for beating him or the others! I'll also be honest - I didn't see it coming UNTIL the heats were over and I realized that it wasn't just going to be Tom Stoltman and Oleksii Novikov that were going to be the main threats to his win but also YOU as well - tough year to be trying to win, and you were clearly ahead of the pack, so there's no getting around that you were the best performer this year. I'm impressed, and count me a fan - look forward to what you'll do in the future! Also, MAN, what a cool trophy. I've never won a trophy for ANYTHING in my entire life - always wanted to, never did - and that's about the coolest one in the world. MY question is, for Brian, from YOUR observation on the ground, what happened there with him? Because he SEEMED to do quite well on several events in the heats and then just COMPLETELY fell flat on his face in the finals and it was really odd to see - do you think it was the stoneoff in the heats that spent his energy and cost him? I've just never seen him like this - especially on fingal's fingers. That was a shock. ANYWAY, proud of you, Mitch. So well done. I'm SURE it won't be your last win, either, if you keep on like this. EDIT: seems you kind of addressed the thing with Brian and the stoneoff with Rauno - I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that might have really been tough to recover from in time for the finals and may have cost him *especially* with the shield carry as the first event, which can't have been easy on him.

I think you will inspire a lot of people to take up strong man because you proved that you don't have to be 6'8 and 400lbs to be great. Even back to the Pudzianowski days, though he was not a giant, he had such a freakish physique. Freaks and giants, compared to them, you appear to be a "normal" guy, and that is good for the growth of the sport.

First; A huge congrats on the win. I am a low level strongman competitor, but I train with a guy who was "the corner man" for a WSM competitor. He is always telling me before a contest, see how the refs are calling something and adapt to that. So I agree with you on the adapt to how things are being called. Personally I don't care about strict or soft calls, I just want the refs to be consistent.

Again, congratulations, fantastic win! I'd agree that the soft calls worked out ok because they were consistent. I'd also say it would be the refs responsibility to inform all the athletes prior to the competition if s/he planned on being very tough. No-one should discover that fact with a refused lift. But i also think a locked out elbow is a bigger deal than being tilted. Thank you for this video.
