THIS CABIN IS NOT FOR HAULING AROUND. I built it at home and then hauled it five miles to where it is parked permanently. If you plan to build one to travel with, start with a very strong trailer ... at least 10,000 pound rating.

I built this cabin on wheels to make a one-way trip to where it is set up in the woods permanently. It only had to be hauled five miles and we went slow and easy. If you are building one to actually haul around, you want a real good trailer. I would say at least a 10,000 trailer.

Timtools99 What are your thoughts on insulation? Im doing a 7x14x7 enclosed trailer (more of a stealth camper/tiny home) but i choose to go with a dow frothpak 620 for $725+/-. I can do all 6 sides with that and im thinking it should save a ton of time. I am however running ent conduit to multiple locations throughout the trailer and taking extra precautions to make sure everything is very well sealed and water tight. Oh and power vent on the roof and make up air through the floor. The only downside i see is that you better make sure youve got your ducks lined up because youve got 1 shot to do it right. I always appreciate when an older professional will share information because you guys know how to make it happen. 16 years as an electrician/cnc technician the most important thing i learned is that "you may or may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks but you dure can learn a lot from them" thanks buddy!

+ElGatoLoco698 Thanks so much ElGato ... So far - so good. I started wiring the Tiny House. I ran four receptacles to run off 110 in case I am where there is electric service. I could run off a generator too. Then, I decided to wire up some 12 Volt lights and run off a battery when I am in the boondocks. I also plan to install a small propane wall furnace for heat in the winter. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible and as inexpensive as I can. When it's done, I hope my Tiny House will provide basic shelter from rain and snow. Thanks for watching.

TimTools99, I enjoyed the video, but wondering how safe that trailer is. It looks weak (with just small diameter poles going across) and tiny house builders use trailers rated for thousands of pounds (and then build lighter than the rating). The axles and tires need to be strong enough, too. If you did it over again, would you use screws for the framing? While towing it, you could get strong winds combined with the speed you are driving, plus the vibrations from the road which can loosen things. Many builders recommend screws for such reasons. In any case, I hope you are enjoying your cabin.

I really enjoyed watching the build of your tiny home! Please post another when you get settled! I like to see where you set up, and maybe making breakfast? Do you have an outhouse? Or compost outhouse? Rustic living is so nice, with quite of the woods, or snow falling. Oh are you going to put in a wood stove, for heating or just keep the heater connected to the solar power? Maybe you could do another video of installing your solar power screen? or window? Thanks for your time from Canada! We sure do know a thing about snow, hahaha! Take care!
@TimTools99
@TimTools99 7 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for your nice comment. Yes, I hope to enjoy many days and nights at the cabin. yesterday, I had a hen turkey and a whole bunch of young ones under the apple tree next to the cabin. What a sight that was! /// I plan to build an outhouse ... there wasn't really room in the cabin and being a one room cabin, I didn't want to look at a toilet! haha. The wall heater I have runs on propane. I burn wood and coal to heat my house so I didn't want to deal with that at the cabin. The propane will be much more convenient. I will be installing the solar panel soon. I need to shake a leg and get all this done before old man winter gets here. P.S. I enjoy making these videos so I will be adding one soon on the solar panel and yes, maybe cooking breakfast at the Tiny House. Thanks again and stay in touch.

@TimTools99
@TimTools99 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. I drew up basic plans on graph paper to build an 8X16' box on wheels. I knew I wanted to use 4X8 sheets of siding for the outside walls and 4X8 sheets of paneling inside. So, the 8X16 dimension would make it easy to slap up the siding with very little waste. I had the windows and door laying around so I stuck those in. It's nothing fancy but will keep me warm and dry. The plans were so basic that they would be of very little use. You can draw your plans up. Just use graph paper. Watch my video on drawing up plans. Again, thanks for watching and for the nice comment.

He understood your 'technical talk' much more than I did and he's now much more excited about it; he's been looking for a good trailer and I just look forward to spending the time learning more from him!! TimTools99 nothing beats a good 'ol Heinz 49 [or is it 57, can't remember, hahha] variety pup! The trailer is definitely the main thing, which we're still looking for.. while moving it isn't my main goal, having that option in the future is nice and the old man did say it's pointless to get one for a few hundred bucks to turn around and put as much into it as a brand new one would cost! i would be a lot more lost with the whole plan if it weren't for him - it is awesome to be learning some of these, really valuable, skills from someone with experience!!

That's a good way to put it. "Just build it!" My dad taught me all this stuff. I'm actually a retired music teacher. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

Oh my god, Tim. This video is better than I had expected. By far the best video I've seen so far. I thought it was cute when you said, "When I came up with my idea to build this cabin on on wheels, I didnt realize its a nationwide phenomenon now. They call it a 'tiny house' " I had a giggle. Tim, you've obviously spent a great deal of your time building things like this and us city folk have co-opted it as though it is something absolutely brand new. Anyhow, you did a great job explaining and documenting your build. Keep it up!

+mmanut Hey Vinny .... Thanks. I plan to roll this thing up to some land we own. The nice thing is that I could move it to a different spot anytime I want. I just started working on the inside. Nothing fancy .... just the basics (heater, cook sove, small sink, etc. I'm also installing 12 volt wiring for some lights and 110vac for when I need to run a generator. I will post video #2 when I get time. Thanks for watching.

I love the way you narrate this project, makes it really flow really well. Did you ever see the show about the guy that made a cabin up in Alaska all by himself, and it was dubbed over with narration and they even put in sounds. I think it was called alone in the wilderness. I absolutely loved that series. If you get a chance to watch it I would bet it is something that you might like.
