Been driving flatbed about the same amount of time. My advice is stick it out for a full year. Adverage your weekly pay then decide if its worth your while. I was in a good spot to get home but because i lived near the Delaware and Baltimore areas, i always got loads for monday that didnt pay well, and had long stretches to deliver on Sunday. So it was a struggle to make what the average TMC guy got. Then i did some research and found out local guys, eapecially tanker local guys, make bank, so for the best interest for my family i had to go local even though i loved doing flatbed.

This was great. I’ve been looking at companies to drive for and TMC is at the top of my list bc of their training. I got my CDL back in late 2018 and never used it. So I want to go to a company that has a good training division. You did a great job on informing without cursing or being negative, also cool you have been there for 2 years. Have you had to chain your tires when driving in the northern states? I’m in FL which I’m glad you addressed in the video, stay safe out there man

I've been with TMC with 9 weeks of experience. Their training is militant and you can't walk on the grass at any terminal. They beat you upside the head with safety and have a lot of tests. They spend a ton of time and money into training you. Maybe they don't pay the most but you aren't going to be paid much better and with any other company and get this kind of training. TMC even has CDL classes.I for one am not going to use chains because if it the weather is bad enough to use chains you shouldn't be driving in it anyways if you ask me. I hear MacElroy does just as good with training too. The best thing to do is focus on building your skills more than the money for now.

That about right all trucking companies pay about the same some pay more only because you have to bust ur ass more and work longer hours,what I say is if your happy where your at and u could make a living stick to it because if u start chasing money u won’t be stable and just to find that you probably got ur self in a worst situation and I’ve been trucking 34 years I did food service for about 10 years,then I had a no touch just bumping docks for 17 1/2 years only left because operation moved and it was to far to travel now I’m doing chemical tanker driver only been there for 6 month .The first years I was just jumping around trying to find the right job and the right job is where you feel right.

Nice video man, I'm being recruited by Halvor Lines and Ralph moyle right now. Both also offer CDL training since I've never driven before. I really am starting to like your company more. Flatbed sounds like a more interesting position than dry van or reffer. My biggest concern is none of the companies are giving any good information on pay. I've been in the Navy years ago so I'm ok with being OTR. I'm used to being away for a bit. I'd like to be making at least 1500 a week for the sacrifice as well as the extra duties of flatbed work. As a first year driver, what realistically will I make each week? I understand it can vary but if you could please give me a good in-between weekly payout I'd appreciate it.
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker Ай бұрын
Like you previously stated, the pay can vary drastically based on a multitude of factors. A general range would be $900 - $1800. It really depends on the particular driver and their individual work week. Ten different drivers can all earn different amounts at the end of the week.
@chrisjones3645
@chrisjones3645 Ай бұрын
Thank you for the reply. I make 1000 a week now. The risk of making just the same isn't worth it to me. Trucking seems to pay not very well after all my research. I watched some content from another guy from your company and he says expect 800-1100 checks. I won't make the sacrifice unless I'm getting 1500-2000. I feel like that's why the shortage exists. I'm close to abandoning the Trucking sector as my research all night has yielded startling information on very poor pay. I can't sacrifice for less money I wouldn't care about my job if my pay was bad. I really don't care about the environment of the companies. The economy has made me a 1 track employee. Pay me well, or it's a no.

Does tmc do a lot of drop and hook or switching pats with other drivers? Just curious if your always moving equipment like chains, straps, tarps
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker 7 ай бұрын
We do drop and hook on preloaded trailers. Sometimes, you'll still have to still place your securement on the preloads. Other than that, you'll swap trailers and equipment with other drivers if you breakdown while loaded and are down for more than a day waiting for the repair. Lastly, you may swap loaded trailers, if you or another driver need to get home and the trade aims both of you in the direction of your homes.

Make sure you keep those floor mats spit shined, huuuhhh!! Expect hard long labor intensive work next to driving… for free! Freight rates are in the toilet! As mentioned in the video, you have to keep your truck detailed. They don’t pay you for that. Any labor I Gotta do I Gotta be paid for I won’t do it. I run with my dog. I have a small dachshund and he is my buddy. I can’t have him in the truck. I guess I don’t drive for the company. On the note about tarp pay many companies pay one price for tarp in the truck but if you have multiple stops and you gotta keep removing and re-tarping the remaining load you don’t get paid extra for that. I worked for one company that paid $13 every time I move the tarp, but that was back in 2002. You will never know the exact cost to the truck. All companies hide that info and also do not pay you for all miles! Average is 12% less than you drive. Piece work sucks and truck drivers are often cheated one way or another. I work now hourly, with overtime, with bonuses every month. Freight loads and unloads itself, home every night, paid full on vacations, (currently 3 weeks a year) and home every day. Last year gross was $124k. This is the job you shoot for. 10 years OTR and I’m done. Good luck to everyone who is starting out.

What does 33% translate to in dollars? Average pay on loads?
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker 5 ай бұрын
That's difficult to say. Every driver's pay varies based on multiple factors, such as where you are in the country, the type of freight that you're picking up, the time of year, etc. Three drivers all getting paid at 33% but in different corners of the country could be earning different amounts of money. The annual average pay for a first year driver is about 65 - 70k based on company averages. You could make more or less your first year. As you get more efficient at the job earnings increase.

@@EruditeTrucker Great video! My orientation is about a month out. I'm looking forward to working with TMC (Rock Hill, S.C.) as my first trucking job, wish I found your video earlier though. Could have work together on the referral. As a noob, what if someone doesn’t have the space to park their take-home truck? Are "premium" or "paid parking” options at truck stops worth it? Luckily I’m only a couple miles away from a Flying J and Pilot Stn, but my driveway is literally to ‘sharp’ to accommodate an entire truck and trailer.
@EruditeTrucker
@EruditeTrucker 3 ай бұрын
@Joseph-fl8uw You can park the truck wherever it's legal and you have written permission to do so. Don't park anywhere where you'll get towed or booted. You'll have to pay the fee if the truck gets impounded. Premium parking is only worth it if you have no other options, are about to run out of hours on your clock, or live in an area that does not have reliable truck parking.
