Finally got a video out!!! Yayyyyy. Which lens would you pick up out of these 5? Also, I had a sloppy explanation of focus breathing. While it does change the way the out of focus elements act. It more noticeably changes the frame as a whole. I address this in the video I posted after this one reviewing the Artisan 7 55mm 1.4. That lens has bad focus breathing and it can been seen very well in that video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h52UiM-j2tW7eJc.html

The cameras and lens that you showed are way above my financial capabilities but I like to engage in day-dreaming from time to time. But more to the point, though I have never been a photographer or videographer, I had always had an interest on these two areas and as a result, I like watching videos such as yours to broaden my knowledge. I have made several documentaries which are very amateurist since I am an amateur but I like to think my capabilities have been curtailed mostly because of the equipments available to me, both camera-wise and editing-wise. Dennis Spielman 😆 Definitely, I bought the 70-200mm 2.8 right after so I’m pretty committed at this point to the system. The 16-35mm F4 is great. The super 35 mode turns it into a 24mm on the wide end so you can do some 4k 60fps fairly wide even with the crop which is nice.

@fatherofbirds
@fatherofbirds 4 жыл бұрын
LA The 55 1.4 is a strong choice. Even if you out grow it one day it can easily be a experimental lens after that. The price is very strong and it is still very sharp at F 2.8. I’ll do a video around that lens only. I shot this on the flat picture profile with contrast all the way down. Everything else is kept the same and I did some light grading in post to get it where I want it. I don’t pull down sharpness because the SH1 has a AAFilter and it feels perfect to me.

@fatherofbirds
@fatherofbirds 3 жыл бұрын
No chance to test it but it looks like the least preforming lens native to the system. I’d probably recommend everyone saving their money and going for a used 24-105 F 4 for the same price. The 24-105 F4 macro is a amazing lens probably because it was a launch lens and they wanted to make sure they had really good glass out the gate. 20-60 isn’t bad it’s just fringes worse, it’s a little less sharp and autofocus doesn’t work as well from what I can see. Unless you really want the extra wide 20mm end of the lens go for a used 24-105 F4

Great video as always! I was wondering if you had any info on why the S1 focus peaking during video dims significantly as soon as the record button is pressed. I installed the v1.5 firmware in the vain hope that this glitch would be addressed. Alas, no. It still gets super dim even with sensitivity turned all the way up during recording. I read on a forum somewhere that other S1 users have had similar complaints and that, oddly, it isn't an issue on the S1H. What gives? I love my S1 but this is annoying. Do I have a faulty body? Great video, very nice selection of lenses to run through. However I think you got the focus breathing consult all wrong.. focus breathing is a phenomenon that accuses when pulling focus on a lens and is seen in the form of a zoom or change in frame size, not the amount of blurriness or perceived size of an object that’s closer or farther from the lens. Please correct me if I misunderstood the point you were making in the video. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻
@fatherofbirds

You are correct, and I should have mentioned that more. It does has an effect on the way object are viewed far away and close when focusing about but the part I mentioned is just a side effect to the greater issue you mentioned. It would have been better to state what your mentioning here. It’s definitely a more important issue. Thank You, for adding clarification. :)

Hi Devon! I finally got the Lumix S Pro 24-70mm. I am very happy with it. It is a real work horse and the image quality is very good. I have two questions, if you would be kind enough to share your insight. The lens emits a high pitched, quite audible beeping when auto focusing. Not in photo mode, only in film mode, single and continuous. Do you notice it too? Furthermore: Dale Baskin of DP Review talks (at 1:24) in their recent youtube video: Explainer: Panasonic Lenses for Video, about a step-less aperture feature. And doing so, they show a scene (two women on boat) with the notification Lumix S Pro 24-70mm 2.8 on top. The scene gets darker, showcasing a step-less decrease in aperture. Did I miss something? It seems to me that the Lumix S Pro 24-70mm has no such function. I own the lens and I use it with my S1H and I have been researching this without success. Can you confirm that this capability really exists. Thank you!

Given your reasonably limited budget (and just to note, mine is currently more limited) is there any reason you were not tempted to used adapters and Nikon/Canon glass and do without autofocus/exposure for video work?
@fatherofbirds
@fatherofbirds 3 жыл бұрын
Mostly it’s because I really would like to get to a end game where Lumix sends out updates that make the auto focus reliable. I also do photo and video work pretty equally and the still autofocus on these lens are very very good, better than video. I’ve spent a lot of the early parts of my journey buying bandaids and I always find I regret them in the long run and end up getting the thing I should have gotten in the 1st place. Auto focus is a big deal to me, more for the stills but I’m optimistic about the video improvements in the future and feel like this gives me the best set up for that. However the downside is all my eggs are in one basket and if I only did video I would probably adapt and focus pull a lot more. I do what you start a collection of EF glass so that sigma adaptor may be in my future. What lenses are you thinking about getting l?

@fatherofbirds
@fatherofbirds 3 жыл бұрын
@@AcidicDelusion It’s a reasonable question. It’s mostly because this system has the least amount of compromises to me. I’m split photo and video pretty much 50/50 so I need what ever camera I’m using to be able to do both at a high caliber. Canon has good auto focus and colors and if all I did was shoot stills I’d probably go with them but for video I can’t deal with all the record limit and over heating. Sony is getting close but to me they aren’t as cohesive as I’d like them to me. The A7Siii is the only one I’d consider for video because I value 10bit as a minimum color depth I want to shoot on. The Sony A7Siii is a 12mp sensor and that just doesn’t make my OCD feel comfortable if I want to crop anything. Since the rest of their camera have there old color science you can’t even match the colors that well if you did mix and match their cameras. The S1H is Cinema like in so many ways with DCI 4k and shutter angle on top being able to pair with the S1 and S5 nearly seamlessly. Because of the work I do I often need 4 cameras that can preform both tasks. Video/photo. Weddings and full concerts. Aside from perfect auto focus this system gives you everything’s else.

@@AcidicDelusion Sl2 is pretty but I think the new update fixes photo AF almost completely. Still seems to be a little unsure in video if they ever send me my S5 I’ll be able to speak more to that. The S5 made the S System so much harder to pass up. When my GF and I shoot weddings we like to have 2 bodies so we aren’t switching lenses.
