Great video. I'm having trouble getting the low rumble in the bass. When I make copies of my favourite songs (Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Fleetwod Mac and the sorts) I always miss the low heaviness of the recording. I record a DI track with a Mexican P Bass through a RME Babyface interface (1MOhm Hi-Z), and use bass amp emulations (mostly Brainworx Ampeg and Bassman). Could it be that my bass signal isn't strong enough to get the deep rumble? I've tried every trick I've seen and EQ:d and compressed, and used R-bass till I'm blue in the face, but I can't seem to get the focussed deep low end professional recordings have. Do you have any advice? Would a preamp or a DI box make a difference? How do you record bass?

"used R-bass till I'm blue in the face" - hahaha. I don't think there's something wrong with the signal chain. It's hard to give advice but here are a couple of things you can try: 1 - You mention Neil young, Fleetwood Mac etc. On their records the bass is thick but not so much low low end from what I can hear. Try to hi-pass the bass higher than you think (50 - 65hz... or higher if you dare) 2 - Decide if the bass drum should deliver the low end or the bass guitar and thin out the other. 3 - I often find that I have build up in frequencies between approximately 90-160hz, and often I need to notch one or two frequencies in that area. I often do it with a dynamic EQ or a multiband compressor to keep the low end intact when the bass is playing quieter. Hope it helps
