One of the biggest things I harp on when it comes to starting a blog is you have to start on a self-hosted Wordpress blog. I am very passionate about this and today I'm explaining why.

Hi Sophie, one thing I think you should touch a little bit on is support that important especially for new website and domain owners. Just a little bit of a lesson I learned I was signing up for a website on host and thought everything was going well until they charged me four times For the same service twice using some credit card processor in the US and twice using a credit card processor outside the US I felt so burned by this that I put a lot of plans on hold and fighting to get my money back was ridiculous. Just saying Customer Service everything and if it was up to me, I would make sure whatever company I choose to host is based in the US with the US representative Last I wanna be is someone known country with somebody who barely speaks English

I really appreciate you constantly hammering this point - it was so helpful to go ahead and convert my Wix blog in its infancy to a self hosted site and it really only took a weekend to figure out what I was doing and get going with a template from Etsy. Thank you for sharing the blogging advice

@@SirokiStudio Good luck!! A little after I switched over I downloaded one of the SEO plugins (Yoast SEO) and its totally changed the way I'm writing blog posts now. I definitely recommend finding a good list of helpful plugins!

Im moving my design to showit (still using wordpress for blogging and sep) while my blog is at infancy because elementor can be annoying at times, and my site looks horrible on mobile. On showit I can makes sure everything fits on mobile and I want to revamp the blog template too.

What`s confusing for those who are brand new is all this host-talk. Selfhost, bluehost bla bla . As a beginner I would like a more detailed explanation on why you need bluehost in a self-hosted blog?

I’m on wix but I own my domain and pay yearly for hosting - does that count as self-hosted? I’ve spent ages getting my site to look great and I’m blogging weekly. Are you saying that I should convert my site to Wordpress instead? Or can I keep going with my site as is? I don’t want to have to start again but obviously if you’re saying wix sites are ‘bad’ I don’t want to waste my time. Thanks so much in advance.

This is where I am too. I have a wix self hosted (?) site and have spent hours getting it to where I like it, but I’m wondering should I change to bluehost? My thing is that I offer services as well as my blog. Wondering if it’s good for services too. Would appreciate any help with this!

There are two problems I see with the wicks platform wine when it comes to monetizing it there’s gonna be restrictions on what you can add in and what you can’t secondly, when it comes to your exit strategy having a blog hosted on WordPress is going to make sure that it’s possible to sell in the future, the website and domain because you actually own it but if you’re hosting on wicks Well who knows what’s gonna happen there? Just saying
