My favorite is watermelon tourmaline and I have allways wanted to cut it. It’s the reason I’m getting into cutting lol.

Nice rough. I'll be waiting to see you cut the fire opal. I also bought a piece of fire opal in Tucson and haven't cut it before so I'll watch you video first. I also like that big tourmaline. Can't wait to see what you cut from it.

I have cut Mexican Fire Opal before. It cuts and polishes very easily! A pleasure to cut/polish.

what a great buy! I asked a few months ago if you could show a video cutting a piece of rough that is long and narrow. Could you show us with the tourmaline piece you bought? :)

Thank you. If I cut this Tourmaline, it will be cut into a 'suite' of gems to make a set of jewelery such as earrings, a pendant and a ring. That way all of the gemstones in the 'suite' will be an exact match in color. But, it is also possible that a customer will want this one piece of Tourmaline as a specimine. So we will have to see what happens.

What a great video! I'm working on starting faceting as a hobbyist later this year and I've been watching all of your videos. They're very informative and entertaining! I've tried out a few online rough dealers with mixed results. I'll definitely have to go this next year to pick some up and inspect the material in person. Do you have any recommendations on where to get rough when the Tucson show isn't going on later in the year? We have a few gem shows in Utah but I've not seen any rough material, it's always been cut or varying mineral specimens that aren't gem quality.

Regarding other shows, I have not been there ..yet... but the Denver Show is supposed to be very good. Also, the United States Faceters Guild (USFG) has a get together in Franklin NC in June or July there are a handful of rough dealers there, and a lot of classes and equipment. Other than that, I would say that you should find a local gem club and join it as there may be cutters and they may even have cutting equipment.. Best of luck to you.

Not sure if is Kosher, but would love to hear some prices. New to cutting and always wondering how much to pay for stones. Have learned lots from watching your channel, thanks Mike.

what faceting machine do you have if you dont mind me asking? I want to get one

@@okthen4820 I have and use an Ultra Tec V5. It is my 2nd Ultra Tec. I have not used any other machine. Sorry, but I don't discuss prices here.

How come talking prices is such taboo with gem cutters. It seams like this would be important for new cutters to know. Not asking what you paid but rules of thumb and things to look for so new cutters don’t get screwed. It’s not like we are going to get mad because you spent $10 on a stone and sell it for $1000 as that’s business. Just would be helpful as most of us are clueless on what to expect

Do they normally expect cash, or do they do credit cards? If they normally take credit cards do they give cash discounts? I'd appreciate answers from anyone. Thanks.
