Great Playing as always, and I agree that it's about the feel. I play my USA Fender Strat the most, because of the satin neck feel and rosewood finger board. It makes me work for it, but I dig the bluesy n rock tones!

Thanks for the video! Personally I own for 10 years a 2005 Fender Stratocaster Highway One (first series with the classic headstock) in sunburst finish that I still like the first day. My guitar was upgraded by its former owner who put Texas Special pickups that make sound really great! It has more gain and it’s more powerful than normal standard series! I compared it with my teacher’s strat and it was so surprising. It feels great too and I don’t think I won’t sell my Strat one day because it’s my very first good electric guitar I own. If today I should buy a strat, I prefer to choose an used highway one than a new mexican made… So Highway One was a good series!

I bought a 2007 Hwy1 Strat about a year ago. My main reason was it's the only model with a nitro finish that wasn't IMHO insanely overpriced. I tried several Custom Shop Starts and didn't feel they justified their price tags. I swapped out the "Atomic humbucker" and "Hot Single Coil" pickups for Custom Shop 54s and I think the guitar is better sounding since.

I also deck the bridge on my Highway 1, after putting locking tuners, new saddles and tone rider pick-ups, this is the only strat i'll ever need. I rarely have to tune it and the nitro finish (apart from looking amazing) seems to let it breathe. My guitar tech is a strat guy and he has commented a couple of times about how much he likes it . This is coming from a man who has a 1962 strat in his collection.

I’ve got a 2007 Highway One Telecaster in the honey blonde finish with a rosewood board that I picked up about 6 months and I love it. These guitars had a thin skin/satin nitro finish which isn’t a common thing on lower priced Fenders. The Highway ones are good guitars and they’re starting to go up in price on the used market. I’m lucky to have gotten my Tele for $600. I’ve come to two conclusions with regards to owning it. I should’ve picked up a telecaster years ago and I wish I knew about the Highway One series back in the day.

Great video and and love both guitars but I just picked up a mint condition '06 HWY 1. The neck? Perfect and a bit wider at the nut than standard Strats....including my MIM and SRV model. The pots are 250k and pickups are Alnico 3 and bit hot. I've been playing for 32+ years and the value cannot be beat. Like you said, it stays in tune but extremely impressed with the tone in all pickup positions and more versatile than the SRV. It pairs really well with both my Tech 21 and Roland Blues Cube Artist and is a match made in heaven with both the SA Ventris and J.Rockett Blue Note. Medium profile, rosewood board with tight grain, resonant body and this will deliver Knopfler, Gilmour and SRV tones forever and more. One of the greatest runs by Fender imo.

Jack, here's a tip: try using a Dunlop Prime Tone Jazz III XL 0.88mm pick with your Strat(s). You'll be amazed at the extra clarity and definition when playing that cross-picking stuff. It's not so good for rock lead, but for articulation and definition using clean tones, including funk rhythm guitar, it can't be beaten (I've tried dozens of picks and they all sound broadly similar for clean sounds until you swap to a PrimeTone Jazz III XL 0.88mm pick). Record yourself using a variety of picks and listen to the difference and judge for yourself. As an aside, I've learned that what we feel and hear whilst playing is often quite different to what we feel and hear when listening a day/week/month later without a guitar in our hands. Keep up the great work!

Affordable or expensive; I've realized, with a decent set of pickups, & a great set up by a trusted Tech, a guitar can sound and feel outstanding Jack; I agree. My Strats' bridge is set up fixed, flush with the body, 5 springs. Also, I have a Brass Trem Block and Brass Claw on both my Strats. Same material as a trumpet, I can hear the lovely added tone, and way more sustain than my 3 Teles. Check it out. Brass Trem block and claw

I love Highway One guitars, I have 2 Teles (05/07) and 2 Strats (02/04). Produced from 2002 to 2010 with a revamp in 2006 which offered jumbo frets, that big headstock on the Strats, which carried on to the American Special and Performers. 2002 - 05 HW-1 had Classic Series A3 pups while 2006 - 10 had overwound vintage style pups that were really hot and sound terrible, bit like Tex/Mex with no metal plate under the bridge pup! I had to take them off my 2007 Tele and I put in the superior Yosemite set. Series 1 also had acrylic paint while series 2 had nitro. The big headstock is a dealbreaker for me.

As a Strat guy, the tones I preferred most were the dirty blues with the Duellist on the string singer side, and to my ears (headphones) the Highway One sounded fuller and more interesting which I’m thinking was due to the pickups. Never played Fat 60’s but I do not care at all for Fat 50’s. Good video.

I have a hardtail American Standard Strat from 2001-2 and it is great. Waited years to get one but this was the first one I'd ever seen, it was like new and I traded my Les Paul Tribute for it even. I put locking Fender tuners on it and it improved drastically. Also changed the pick up covers and knobs so it matches with my Precision Bass. I've bought a Freeway 10 way switch and Pure tone jack to finish personalizing this guitar but wondering if I want to mod it that much since it sounds great and has the look I want with no real changes made and the original cosmetic parts as well as tuners ready to swap back in the case.

@robertobrien2903
@robertobrien2903 3 жыл бұрын
@@keithclark486 The instrument sings more purely and stays in tune a little better. The tuners on my Strat were nearly 20 years old and I think the age and the windings were causing it to slip. I think the higher gear ratio is less important than getting rid of the wraps around the posts. The wraps lead to inconsistencies, slippage and tension in the wrong places that the locking tuners all get rid of. They also make it a lot easier to change the strings and when you do everything is just as stable as before once you stretch and retune them a couple times.

7:35 most likely this is because of the higher output pickups compared to your CS one. You can lower the pickups and measure impedance and induction on your CS and Highway1 fenders. Fixed (or blocked) bridge may also give a little more "punch" as you say. Also, make sure you use the strings that work best for you.

Original 2nd gen Highway One PU outputs: neck and middle 9k (reverse polarity btw); Bridge 11k - all with alnico 3 magnets. To me you've defeated the object of what Fender aimed to achieve, which was really fat, darker sounding PUs, whilst the alnico 3s and greasebucket tone circuit cutting down the highs without adding any bass. Each to their own, but have left the original PUs in my 2007 (gives me something very different to all my other strats). For years I only cared for the feel of a guitar. The sound was secondary, I always thought you can make most things sound good with pedals, amps etc. (and you can, sort of). But since a few years I notice that I gravitate to my best sounding guitars, even if others feel better or easier to play. No idea why, maybe because I'm at a point I'm listening more to what I play instead of concentrating on how "good/bad" I play? As long as the frets are level, I'm pretty happy. Can't stand fretbuzz. Btw I like the CS strat just a bit more. It seems to have "more" sound. Not louder, just "more". Probably harmonics?

The tuners and the bridge are cheap feeling and looking on HW One. Other than that really great.

Custom Shop Strats are usually really nice. But if you compare for an example a CS Relic Strat to an American Vintage Reissue they are not THAT much better. Sure, a Custom Shop instrument will have better woods and more time spent on details. But I bet most people wouldn't know the difference if they were to play the two blindfolded.

personally, i like more the custom shop one, got more midrange tones, the highway one its a little more brighter (se escribe asi brillante?). i preffer the custom shop, but highway one could be better whit funky stuff o pop music, i think

Ah yes, the impossible-to-identify feature of what makes a certain guitar feel just right to you. Let me know if you figure out the formula. Killer playing, by the way.

Jack, I've got a 2007 Highway One. Similar to yours except mine has a maple fretboard. As for the year, the serial number on the back of the headstock starts with a letter. The first number after that is the year, ie mine being a 2007 starts Z7. Here's an old Fender video talking about the second generation Highway One range, which our guitars are. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNeDjKd5s9alqGw.html
