June 1st, 2009 - The day that changed my life forever. This is the story of my diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes, and what the 10 years since then have been like for me. It was hard for me to talk about, but I want to be open with you all, and hopefully share something new or helpful through talking about this.
If you or someone you know is showing any of the symptoms found here-www.jdrf.org/t1d-resources/ab... seek immediate medical attention for answers and further information. Knowing this information can save lives! You can find more information about Type 1 Diabetes and how you can be involved in the search for a cure here: www.jdrf.org!
Do you know someone with Type 1 Diabetes? Make sure to remind them that they are freaking awesome, and that their hard work is recognized. Remind them that Diabetes does not have to define them, but that it can be a part of themselves that can make them stronger. Share some love in the comments below!

My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article kzfaq.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

Hi, there! Noticed your comment on not knowing why your son got T1D. I used to be confused how I was the only one of my nine siblings with type one. Then I began learning how autoimmunity is on a spectrum, even though we don't normally hear it talked about that way. I have siblings with environmental allergies, lupus, vitiligo, PCOS and sensitivity to wheat or milk casein; believe it or not, diabetes fits in really naturally with all of these! I must have hit some kind of cascade that triggered my system to attack - and it picked my pancreas... but, it could have been a different organ or system. It could have looked totally different, yet still been related to the some of the same root causes. I do have previous generations of my family (from cousins to aunts and uncles, even back to a great-grandfather who died of it, I believe), who all ended up with diabetes specifically. Genetics is one piece, just not the only one. Some of my best learning about root causes has come from the book The Devil in the Milk, and the online video-summit (I ended up buying the series on DVD) called The Autoimmunity Summit.

The cake story really got me. Having to mature being conscious about food at such a young age while I know so many adults that would just swallow the whole thing even though they have D or are at risk. Now I know that you are stronger than all the characters portrayed in the series put together. Lady, my respects to you.

That's always the part that never fails to make me tear up SOOO bad. I don't cry much and I don't really like doing so (which is very bad, by the way), but that just hit so hard. For a kid, food especially their favorite ones are like life, imagine that being torn away from you because of something you didn't even ask for. The journey's been hard just from this story and trying to imagine how it might've been was for years breaks my heart so much. Mary, we're always proud of you.

Donna Flynn Do you know the feeling of everyone hating you because of the color of your skin??? For years I was told by a neglectful pediatrician that he doesn't believe in T1D and then he said if you say T1D again I will put her in the hospital with shunts in her head. This is because of me being around many schizophrenics. I was around schizophrenic children and schizophrenic adults. If you do not know schizophrenia is were someone hears voices in their head.

Donna Flynn Never never ever read a book titled Change The Game. When I was 9 years old my family had moved from one side of Springfield Missouri to another and I was starting at a new school and I was 9 years old and going into a classroom of 21 other students who were completely healthy was terrifying. My third grade year was ok and my fourth grade year I ended up in the hospital having so many brain surgeries it was truly truly insane. Also I was medically abused by Jehovah's Witnesses and so I will sue every Jehovah's Witness religion in the world. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 What is even worse was when I was 10 years old my mother took me to the hospital to have brain surgery and I was raped.

I got switched from one classroom to another because of being severely bullied. From October 2005 to December 2005 I was in the hospital having several brain surgeries again. When I came back to the school I was laughed at and made to crawl on the ground like a baby and not educated at all. Yeah I'm I was not given an education for 3 years of my life because of stupid ass Jehovah's Witnesses and I also went to school with another child and she was around my age. She also had childhood schizophrenia and she was also the reason I got kicked out of a church.

It is really inspirational to see how someone is actually able to overcome such a difficult situation and watching her actually open herself like that to a public and speak up about it, is even better. Hope you can keep being such an open person who is willing to help others through videos like this. You bring so much joy by simply expressing yourself. We love you Mary. ❤️👍🏻

Mary such a touching real story. I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 when I was 40. I remember crying when I found out. (My blood sugar was over 600). I am now 66 and have lived 26 years with the illness that killed my grandfather and grand mother on both sides of my family. I remember the strokes and the amputations they went through and the thought of that for me was devastating. Unfortunately the lock down has kept me away from my doctor for over a year and I stopped testing when I ran out of supplies. When I went back to the doctor about 2 months ago my A1C was over 13. Thank god I have worked hard and now I average around 130 which is a big improvement. Thank you for your story and I wish you the best in your career and life. Rick

I was diagnosed twenty five years late because of a neighbor that I had she was a schizophrenic from fucking hell. My step brother Jacob is a Schizophrenic from hell as well. Anyway I grew up in Springfield Missouri and I was born at 24 weeks early. No one was nice to me growing up and around age 10 I met a girl the same age as me and she was a schizophrenic from hell. She got me kicked out of church and she constantly lied all the time. She told everyone when I was 11 years old and in fifth grade that I was an animal Ashley Wells brought back to life. I went to church when I was younger and she told everyone at the church that I went to that I was going to die because I was mixed with black and white. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I was kicked out of a elementary school because of her lies and I believe I got kicked out of a middle school and highschool as well. When I was 10 years old I met a 5 year old and when this girl was around age 8 or 9 or maybe she might have been a little bit older, she walked all the way to Albuquerque New Mexico on foot and convinced Gabrielle Montez to pose as a fucking doctor. Don't ever play Change The Game. Don't ever read the book either. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 So I was actually born with T1D but I never received anything because stupid ass schizophrenics saying I deserved to die. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 The story gets worse from here everyone seemed to really really hate me because I am mixed and my stupid ass step brother Jacob told the doctors not to give me anything because I was mixed. I spent several years in the hospital have unnecessary brain surgeries. Do not ever read a book titled change the game........ the fucking book ruins lives. I had a neighbor who was a schizophrenic and she told lies all the fucking time like I was going to die because of the color of my skin. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I am a mom with a teenager with T1D diagnosed ten years ago too. She's a bright and wonderful young lady who is doing well with her diabetes. But even as such, it is so nice to have you be such a positive inspiration and to hear your story and positive outlook. When you mentioned your mom getting up and checking you every few hours in the night, I thought "yep" that's me too. And I will continue to get up multiple times every night for as long as I can because I really believe that no long should go through this journey alone. Stay healthy and wonderful, Mary.

I come back to your diabetes vlogs often for some reassurance and to hear the experiences someone else just like me has been through. My 3 y/o daughter has just been diagnosed T1D as well so I’ll be showing her your channel when she’s old enough to comprehend everything too. You’re an inspiration 🙌🏻❤️

When I was 8 eight years old I found I had Mody 3 diabetes. Which is a genetic type. It was something I was born with and was something my mother was scared of . This type of diabetes has ran down in my moms side of my family. My brother has it , mom has it , and then my grandfather has a different type of diabetes I think but he also has it, my great grandmother has it to. It’s ran down in my family and if I have children it’s likely they will have it. It sucks but it’s something I have to live with and same with m family. I’m 13 now and I’m used to it but sometimes I wonder what it would be like if i didn’t have it.

Thank you Mary for sharing your diagnosis story. I was searching KZfaq for information about Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes and it was your video that I chose, and I am so glad I did. A good friend of mine just found out her son has Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes. As a Medical Laboratory Tech I understand the clinical chemistry involved but it is the personal story that is foreign to me. I want to support my friend and not say anything hurtful as she and her family travel this new, unwelcome, journey. Your raw recount of your experience gave me a better understanding of the fragility of the patient and family at this time. I have lots to learn but you provided a picture of hope and I am truly grateful for that.
